The Apprentice: Los Angeles, Episode 1 Extras – Save the Car Wash, Save the World

In honor of the new season, it looks like Yahoo’s official Apprentice site has finally gotten its act together! Now, when you go to the video page, you can see a list of all of the videos, as well as which are replays, which are deleted scenes, and which are extended scenes. Plus, you can watch entire episodes on the site. Also, there are now webisodes, which are basically summaries of the task of the episode, narrated by Trump, with scenes we didn’t get to see. Because the whole episode is available to view, they’re not showing so much of the Boardroom in the extended scenes, which makes them easier to navigate (and easier to determine which scenes were shown and which weren’t). All in all, a huge improvement!

Up first is the webisode, in which we hear a few more candidates’ impressions of themselves on the trip up to the mansion. Frank introduces himself as Frankie, AKA Frankie Suits. Eh. After the teams are determined and the task assigned, the teams head to their car washes. Heidi tells her team that they have an agreement that if they win, they don’t go to the Boardroom. I’m not sure she knows how this works. She tells us that she picked her teammates because she thought they would work the hardest. I’m not sure how she could tell that just by looking at them, but okay.

Heidi tells us that the car wash is being held in a gay community, and the team members start trying to decide what would attract people in that are to the wash. Heidi suggests hiring men in Speedos to draw in people, an idea which the mainly-female team can’t disagree with.

At the wash, the team gets to work and Heidi sends Derek and Kristine out to find some hot men to lure customers. Derek has been given this task partly because he’s gay. (Incidentally, I’ve heard that Angela is, too, but no one mentions that. I’ve also heard that Carey is also gay, but that doesn’t stop me from naming him my Apprentice boyfriend.) He tells us that he also works in that neighborhood, so he’s familiar with the people there.

At a café, Kristine cuts to the chase, telling someone, “I need a hot guy to take his shirt off for a couple of hours.” On the street, she tells another guy, “I figure that since this is the hot boy neighborhood, I need hot boys to help me sell.” How did she not get more screen time in this episode? Derek and Kristine find a couple guys to work for them for three hours. Kristine tells us, “This is the hot man, shirts-off, down-and-dirty carwash.” Take that, other team!

There was more to Heidi’s team’s reward than we saw, as they’re visited by a yoga instructor the morning after their win. Angela is happy because she knows the importance of the mind-body balance. As the whole team (yes, including Derek and Surya) does yoga, Aaron peeks over the fence and laughs. The instructor helps the team take their mind off the competition. Aaron is joined by a couple of other guys from his team, and one of them (it might be Tim, but I’m not sure) teases that Derek is sexy. Maybe, but he’s not exactly graceful. He admits that some of his falling over is legit and some is goofing off. At least the others are entertained.

After the real reward at Spago, the team heads to an L.A. club called LAX for some dancing. Muna enjoys the experience because she loves music. She’s keeping in mind that this is a competition, but she’s also just enjoying the moment. Heidi says they got the VIP treatment and just had fun instead of working.

In a scene deleted from the task, Stefani gets sick and Nicole goes to get her some water. Nicole interviews that Stefani was incredibly classy about getting sick – she didn’t complain about it to anyone, and she immediately got back to work. Indeed, we see the two of them get back to calling for cars on the ladder. A little while later, Stefani gets sick again and tells us that it was because of the heat and the lack of food and water. However, she knew she had a job to do, and if she stopped working, they could miss a car, which could cost them the task.

Back at Tent City, Frank gets a little obsessive asking his teammates how he did on the task. He doesn’t want to be blamed for the loss. He tells Stefani that he won’t take her to the Boardroom, since he knows how hard she worked, especially when she was sick. He also asks James if he knows how much he did as the PM. We go back and forth between Frank talking to Aaron and talking to Nicole and Stefani. Stefani interviews that Frank needs to figure out when to stop. Frank tells her and Nicole that Frank is in trouble. Nicole interviews that Frank’s mouth is working against him.

Frank tells us that he’s ready for the Boardroom and thinks most of his teammates will support him. Martin dropped the ball and wasn’t aggressive on an aggressive task. You know what phrase I could really do without on this show? “Dropped the ball.” That and “step up to the plate.” It’s right up there with “threw me under the bus” from Top Chef.

Martin corners Tim and Carey to ask them what they think his chances are in the Boardroom. Tim says it depends on what the team says. Carey thinks Martin’s chances are 50/50. Martin interviews that he’s planning to make Frank look like a loose cannon. He’ll ask nitpicky questions and Frank will go ballistic. He has ESP!

In the Boardroom, Trump tries to milk one of this season’s twists by asking Nicole how she likes living in Tent City. Nicole says that she tried to be positive about it. Trump teases Martin, who says he can be rustic. Ivanka notes that his gingham shirt does look like a picnic tablecloth. Ha! Trump thinks that Stefani doesn’t like her living arrangements because they’re the reason she got sick. She corrects him, saying that she got sick before they ever moved to Tent City.
