Dancing with the Stars 4, March 27: Quickstepping Out the Door

by Jill Jones -- 03/28/2007
Monday night on Dancing with the Stars, the celebrities took on the mamba and quickstep. Surprisingly, all of the performances were quite good. Jill predicted that either Shandi or Leeza (both at right) would be eliminated. In only 60 minutes (yum, filler), we'll know if she’s right or wrong.

Tom and Samantha welcome us to the results show. They also mention that Jimmy Kimmel and Dionne Warwick are appearing this evening for our amusement. I’d be more excited if Bea Arthur and F. Murray Abraham were making an appearance, but that’s just me.

Len explains that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Laila and Maksim’s mambo for the encore performance. Was there any doubt? This couple moves and shakes, and gives the dance the spice it requires.

Tom and Samantha review the standings based on the judges’ scores:

RANKINGSTARSCORE
1 Laila 50
2 Joey 48
3 Apolo 47
4 Ian 43
5 Heather 42
6 Paulina 40
7 Shandi 39
8 John 38
9 Leeza 36
10 Billy Ray 34
10 Clyde 34

They now reveal the first couple that is safe. It’s Heather and Jonathan. Also, Elena and Clyde are advancing. Everyone is surprised, but in a good way.

Dionne is now set to sing “I Say a Little Prayer.” Her voice is amazing. Cheryl, Jonathan, Anna Trebunskaya (Jonathan’s wife), and a gentleman whose name I missed perform. (I’m sorry, I had an itch.)

Audience members tell us what they thought of the performances from last night. This is also a chance to show some of the celebrities in the audience. Look, there’s Brian Austin Green, Chuck Woolery, and Sela Ward. Anyway, people want to shake like Laila and are impressed with Heather.

Tom and Samantha tell us that Cheryl and Ian, and Laila and Maksim are advancing. There aren’t any surprises there.

Some of the professionals now dance to “Don’t Stop Me Now.” They take their performance into the crowd. The routine is very energetic and makes me want to dance. Instead, I sit here and think about nachos; it’s just easier that way.

Jimmy, through a pre-recorded segment, shows us how to do the tango. His parking lot attendant assists him. If the skit was at all amusing, I’d recap it for you, but instead, I move on.

Tom and Samantha now tell us one couple that is in the bottom two. It’s Paulina and Alec. The crowd makes some noise, but it isn’t quite ready to rebel yet.

Dionne is back to sing “Do You Know the Way to San Jose.” Actually, I don’t, but I could possibly get you to Columbus, Ohio.

A series of clips that demonstrates how difficult it is to dance is shown. Paulina says that she wakes up in pain every day; Heather compares her hands to claws; Laila explains that she gets injured more in practice than in the boxing ring.

Trista Sutter, Kenny Mayne, and Tucker Carlson tell us what it was like to be the first couple voted off of the show during their seasons. I just wish we’d find out who’s leaving tonight; a storm is moving through and I want to finish your recap before the power goes out!

Tom and Samantha are ready with more results. They tease and taunt us, and finally tell us that Kym and Joey, Julianne and Apolo, Edyta and John, and Leeza and Tony are advancing. The biggest shock comes when they state that Karina and Billy Ray are also moving on. Good for Karina and Billy Ray; they didn’t give up when it would have been so easy to do. This all means that Shandi and Brian are joining Paulina and Alec in the bottom two.

After a long break, Tom tells us that Paulina and Alec are leaving the competition. Paulina tells us that she had a wonderful time, and that her fan base is her family and it wasn’t extensive enough. Tee hee. She then reveals that Alec is trying to get into acting. Prrrrrrrrrrr! I’d pay $9 to see that!

Paulina and Alec hug the other competitors as the show comes to a close. Do you agree with the results or were you hoping to see more of this couple? Can you believe that Alec finished in first place during his first season and in last during his second season? Write to me at the address below, and share your thoughts and feelings. More importantly, join me next week as the celebrities continue their quest for the disco ball trophy and another couple bites the dust.
