The Real World: Denver, Episode 25 – Outward and Onwardby Jill Jones -- 04/26/2007
View Printable version of this article Brooke tells us that they are in their final week at Outward Bound. Really? Did they ever work? They are now working with a group of young women. Alex informs the girls that they are repelling the next day. Brooke is anything but thrilled. Everyone meets in the morning and prepares to repel. Brooke says that she is unsure about what she’s going to do. (If you recall, Brooke couldn’t do it when the group tried to repel earlier in the season.) Jenn attempts to build up Brooke’s confidence. Chris gives the group some instruction and the first girl begins to repel. As the others make their way down, Brooke’s face twists and turns. Chris then hooks her up and tells her that nothing bad is going to happen. He is so motivating and encouraging; I need him around when I walk on my treadmill (i.e., stare at it and decide to watch TV instead). Brooke makes all kinds of noises as she tries to psyche herself up. She’s also breathing heavily and cursing. With every little move she makes, Jenn and Chris are right there to cheer her on. She stops though and begins to cry. I think she is genuinely ashamed that she can’t do it. As Chris talks to her, Brooke finally says that she wants to do it. She begins her descent and says, “Cool!” Chris hollers down at her and says that she is his hero. She finally reaches the bottom and is ecstatic. I’m so proud of her! She proves that you can do anything if you try hard enough, believe in yourself, and put your fears aside. (Congratulations, Brooke!) Later, Colie tells Chris that she is sick. She’s afraid that she has mono again, so she bids the girls goodbye and returns to Denver. This really stinks for her; she was looking forward to working with the girls. Brooke and Stephen lead the group to their hike camp. Chris explains what they are to do if it begins to storm. Brooke interviews that she’s afraid of lightning; apparently, she doesn’t like lightning, heights, and bowling. One of the girls, Ashley, has trouble breathing. Chris puts her on his back and literally carries her away. Stephen and Brooke are in charge. The girls are nervous, but Brooke calms them down. Chris returns and reassures everyone that Ashley will be fine once she goes to a lower elevation. He also congratulates Brooke on helping the girls. Jenn tells us that it is now time for the girls to do a peak climb. Everything goes well and the group makes it to the top. On their way down, they meet up with Ashley; everyone is happy to be reunited. The last day arrives and the girls say goodbye to the roommates. Brooke says that her whole attitude about Outward Bound has changed for the better. She also tells the group that the experience changed her life. Jenn says that helping Brooke and the others gave her the best feeling. Great, there’s a tear in my eye. Tyrie suggests that they take the cohesiveness they have back to the house. Chris tells everyone that they are going on vacation soon. Jenn asks if their trip will be to the mountains. Brooke interviews that her relationship with Chris has improved. When they first met, they didn’t get along, but now they are closer. I’m sure he appreciates the fact that she stretched herself and did something she never thought she could do. Alex and Brooke introduce a bloopers reel. Technically, since the show isn’t scripted (cough, cough), I wouldn’t call these bloopers. They are basically embarrassing moments. Some of the more, um, memorable ones are Davis picking his nose like there is no tomorrow and Colie pooping in an envelope in the car. Yikes Next week, Davis celebrates his birthday; a lot of people kiss; Colie says that she is horny and wants to hook up with Alex. And now for my Weekly Observations:
Don’t forget to tune in next week to see where the roommates are headed on vacation. This might be the trip of a lifetime and the one occasion in which we don’t want to live vicariously through the roommates. Then again, Colie did poop in an envelope!
