Dancing with the Stars 4, May 8: Float Like a Butterflyby Jill Jones -- 05/09/2007
View Printable version of this article There’s so much to see and do; let’s get started! Tom and Samantha open the show, and Tom recaps last night’s action. Personally, I think my recap is better. Wow! Samantha is really looking pregnant tonight. Tom and Samantha next review the current standings; I’m throwing mine in as well:
Len explains that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Julianne and Apolo to dance tonight’s encore performance. The routine is even better in some areas than it was the first time the couple performed it. For example, last night, Julianne and Apolo made a minor error on a move that involved Apolo being on his knees and Julianne sliding to him (and they still ended up with goobers galore). This evening, the move is more polished. Great job. Nelly Furtado sings “I’m Like a Bird” while Elena and Tony, who perform professionally together, dance. Nelly sounds, um, different than she does on her albums; however, Elena and Tony dance beautifully like they always do. It’s fun watching Elena dance with someone who is her height. Samantha rehashes the emotions from last night’s show. She also asks dumb questions. Luckily for us, most of the stars don’t answer them directly. Billy Ray does acknowledge that he was angry before, but now he’s here to celebrate; he went further than he ever thought he would. The audience members weigh in on their thoughts. A lot of people mention how nice it was to see Muhammed Ali in the audience and how rude the judges were. Tom and Samantha let us in on the first couple that is in the bottom two. It’s Karina and Billy Ray. Billy Ray acts surprised. Tee hee! Maksim and his brother Valentin have a dance-off; they’re partnered with Karina and Valeriya Kozharinova… I think. The dance is hot and Maksim shakes his body all over the dance floor. It’s amazing how synchronized every move is. Samantha talks to Apolo, Ian, Laila, and Joey. Ian attacks Apolo. And that’s pretty much the highlight of this filler segment. Nelly sings “Loose” for us while Cheryl and MY Louis dance. Sorry, but Nelly is a bit too nasally for me. The dancing is great, though; Cheryl and Louis compliment one another well. Great news! Tom tells us that tickets for the Dancing with the Stars tour go on sale this weekend at www.abc.com. Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo want to show us how to do the waltz, but unfortunately, they don’t know the dance. The dance fairy, Master P, shows up to help them. When Jimmy and Guillermo question his abilities, Master P smacks them. Guillermo eventually steps on him. It’s so sad that it has come down to this. Tom and Samantha are ready to reveal the first couple in the semi-finals. It’s Cheryl and Ian! Ian is beyond thrilled. The remaining couples look nervous all of a sudden. The performers talk about how hard it is to say goodbye. Laila admits that while eliminations are difficult, she’s glad she’s still in the competition. Tom and Samantha are now ready to reveal who is continuing on in the competition. The next couple announced is Laila and Maksim, followed by Julianne and Apolo. That means that Kym and Joey are in the bottom two. Because of the way the results are announced, everyone is confused. Thanks, Samantha. I’m sure that some people are shocked that Kym and Joey are under the big red lights, but I read a lot of comments from readers that stated the couple might be in trouble because of Joey’s goofiness; some people don’t find it endearing, I guess. Tom tells us that the next couple eliminated from the competition is Karina and Billy Ray. They’re giggling the whole time. Billy Ray thanks God for everything and asks the audience to give Karina a round of applause. He also acknowledges the fans and mentions his album… again. The producers show us clips of Billy Ray’s journey. He holds Karina while they watch and I tear up when Karina mentions their friendship. Damn this show! Karina and Billy Ray dance us out of the program. I don’t think people are surprised by this elimination, but they might be amazed by how emotional it was; I know I was moved by it. I promise to be back next week to cover the semi-finals as long as my achy-breaky heart recovers. Jill is an east coast mama who loves sharks, zombie movies, and reality television.
