America’s Next Top Model 9, Episode 1: Caribbean Queens

Tyra greets the final 20 girls and tells them that she is about to meet with Jay and Mrs. J. to figure out who will be the final 13. However, each must stand up and say why they should be in the house.

Lisa says that she wants to be recognized for doing something good, while Heather wants to show the girls that are at the bottom of the social totem pole that they matter too. Marvita says that she has dreamed of this and Jennifer feels that she’s supposed to do this and that this is her opportunity.

Now the judges are talking. Ms. J. feels that Jenah is high fashion and could model for Prada. Saleisha needs this competition because without it, she could only be a mediocre model. Mila is cute and Ambreal is tall, but looks short. Kimberly can be sexy and Marvita is different, but Ms. J. doesn’t see high fashion with her. Tyra feels that Lisa is vulnerable, and that Victoria has a great looks. Chantal could be Italian high fashion and Bianca is fierce – although she needs to lose the weave.

The judges feel that Sarah is supposed to be a plus sized model, but they aren’t sure. Heather wants to represent the underdog, but they think she looks great anyway. Janet is beautiful and Ms. J. loves a girl that doesn’t need a makeover. Jennifer could be high fashion and all the judges agree that Ebony needs a high fashion ass whoopin’.

Tyra is now ready to reveal to the girls who the final 13 will be. She says that they will go from everyday girls to girls that everyone in America will know. The first girl that is called is… Mila! Ugh, really? She is followed by Bianca, and then Jenah. Chantal is called next, then Ambreal, who breaths a huge sigh of relief.

Victoria is next, then Sarah. Saleisha follows, and she runs down to Tyra. I really like her! Lisa, at this point, has begun crying. Kimberly is called next, and I don’t think she can believe it. Next is Ebony, who lets out a huge, obnoxious scream, as other girls roll their eyes. I love you, Bianca!

There are only three spots left, and one of them goes to Janet, who begins jumping up and down. The next girl called is Heather, and she can’t believe it. Now there’s only room for one girl. Jennifer, the bartender from Boston; Marvita, the homeless girl; and Lisa, the stripper, are vying for that spot. In the end though, it goes to… Lisa! She is visibly shaking as she walks over to Tyra, and she says that this is the best thing that has ever happened to her.

The other girls aren’t so lucky. Tyra hugs them all, and Marvita says that she wasn’t crying when she wasn’t called, since you don’t always get what you want. Jennifer says that she isn’t done banging down doors, and she’ll be back.

Tyra congratulates the girls who made it and tells them that they still have a long way to go. Heather didn’t think that she’d make it and Saleisha screams to the sky. Ebony is being cocky, and I’m already looking forward to her comeuppance. I’m licking my chops at the thought of it.

Next week, the girls move into the house. Bianca challenges Lisa’s place in the competition and Lisa gets all kinds of crazy. They might already be getting makeovers! Here’s how I’m ranking the girls for next week:
