Dancing with the Stars 5, October 2: A Quick Mambo Off the Show

by Jill Jones -- 10/03/2007
After the dancing was done on Monday, Jill predicted that Kym & Mark (right) would go home. Is she right? And what else do we find out in the hour-long results show? Read on, as Jill has all the details.

Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the couples performed either the mambo or quickstep. Five couples tied for fifth place. Either the competition is fierce this season or the judges are lazy. I’m going with the former. Tonight, another duo will be eliminated from the competition. I’m going with Kym & Mark.

Before we start, I want to thank Bradley for identify the songs I didn’t know from last evening:

  • Marie & Jonathan danced to Mambo #8.
  • Julianne & Helio danced to Para Los Rumberos.

Tom & Drew welcome us to the show. I think Drew can stop telling us that he’s filling in for Samantha. We get it! They also review the action from the previous evening. Of course, I’ve already recapped it for you.

Len tells us that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann selected the mambo from Julianne & Helio as the encore performance. I’m impressed by the couple’s footwork and the fun that they have together.

Next, Tom and Drew review the current standings:

RANKINGSTARSCOREJILL’S RANKING
1 Helio 27 1
2 Sabrina 26 2
3 Marie 24 4
4 Mel 23 3
5 Albert 21 9
5 Cameron 21 8
5 Floyd 21 5
5 Jane 21 6
5 Jennie 21 7
10 Mark 18 10
11 Wayne 15 11

Tom tells us that Jane is not going to be on the show tonight. Her mother passed away yesterday and she went to be with her family in England. On a happier note, Jane & Tony are safe, and Jane is remaining in the competition.

Tom and Drew also reveal the next couple that is safe. Julianne & Helio are moving on. Yoko yawns; she saw this coming a mile away. Good dog!

Queen Latifah performs “Live Till I Die.” What a voice! There is nobody in the world fiercer than Queen Latifah! Take that, Tyra Banks! Oh, and professional dancers Victor Fung & Anna Mikhed perform.

Drew talks to Kym & Mark and Cheryl & Wayne backstage. Wayne sends along a message to Jane from the cast and crew.

The audience shares its feelings with us about last night’s performances.

  • The cavemen can’t believe that Marie didn’t perform as a child. Ha!
  • Various women want Cameron to take his shirt off.
  • Bachelor Bob who hasn’t been a bachelor for a while says something, but I don’t pay attention.
  • Corbin Bleu tells us that he’s supporting Sabrina. He is an adorable young man!

Tom and Drew fill us in on two more couples that are advancing in the competition. They are Mel & Maksim and Sabrina & Mark.

To demonstrate the tango, two professional couples perform it for us. The first couple is Nick & Lena Kosovich. I miss the second couple’s name because my DVR decided to switch over to South Park. Sigh. In any case, the performance is magical. I wish we could cut out some of the crap that the producers throw into the show and just focus on the great dancing.

Speaking of crap… Guillermo & Jimmy Kimmel explain how votes are counted. The Count from Sesame Street helps them.

After that debacle, Tom and Drew decide to announce the next safe couple. It’s Kym & Mark. Well, I guess I was wrong with my prediction… again!

Queen Latifah sings “California Dreamin’” while Anna & Tony dance. This performance kicks butt.

The professional dancers tell us what they think of the celebrities. Of course, they have nothing bad to say. Maksim looks hot.

Drew now speaks with Marie & Jonathan about how nervous they are. Marie says she hates “the heartbeat sound” that is played while the couples await their fate. Drew also talks to Edyta & Cameron; he channels Samantha and cuts Cameron off.

The celebrities talk about the stress of practice and performing. Jennie says that she’s competitive while Wayne acknowledges that he isn’t the best dancer. Shots of Albert’s pelvis thrusts are shown.

Tom and Drew reveal two more safe couples. They are Marie & Jonathan and Karina & Floyd.

With only a few minutes left in the program, Tom and Drew tell us that Jennie & Derek and Edyta & Cameron are safe. This means that the bottom two is made up of Anna & Albert and Cheryl & Wayne.

After the votes are tallied, the couple that is leaving the competition is Anna & Albert. I’m speechless. How can Wayne remain in the competition instead of Albert? I don’t care if Wayne is a legend or not; he can’t dance and even acknowledged it. This show hasn’t been kind to models this season.

Well, that’s it for Anna and Albert. Join me next week as we hopefully see more examples of great dancing. I just hope that I don’t get honked off again.
