America’s Next Top Model 9: Ranking the Models – The Top 5

by Asher Streets -- 11/28/2007
Tyra thought all of the models had a poor performance this week, but one model stood out. Saleisha (right) was the only one to get a score that pulled her average up. Does her string of consistently good weeks merit the top spot?

  1. Jenah (1): Jenah is still holding the number one spot, but just barely. She laughed through the challenge instead of working to pose. (Where was Benny Ninja for this challenge? It was perfect for him on so many levels.) Jenah’s commercial was OK, but she needs to just relax and learn to communicate instead of reciting lines. The photo was phenomenal! I think she looked a bit like Ellen DeGeneres. Overall, Jenah is still a favorite of mine, but she needs to win back the favor of the judges by showing more personality and passion. (Challenge: 5, Commercial: 5, Photo: 9, Misc: 7, Tyra’s rank: 4th, Episode score: 6.2, Cumulative score: 7.8)
  2. Saleisha (2): Saleisha may overtake Jenah very soon. Of all the models, her performances as of late have been the most consistent. Aside from the wilty tulip, Saleisha’s never actually done poorly. Saleisha’s commercial was by far the best of the bunch. It sounded like an ad instead of a silly challenge. My only problem is still the hair. What’s with all the bangs this season anyway? (Challenge: 7, Commercial: 9, Photo: 7, Misc: 8, Tyra’s rank: 2nd, Episode score: 8.1, Cumulative score: 7.6)
  3. Chantal (4): Chantal started out this season on top of the rankings and has become the perpetual middle-of-the-pack girl. She never does anything outstanding in a positive or negative way. Chantal also laughed through the challenge and didn’t get the point of the photo shoot. Her commercial was OK. I agree it was genuine, but it was also amateur. She didn’t deserve to get her photo first, but with Heather and Bianca floundering, Chantal stands a chance to make it to the last episode. I can’t see her winning, however. (Challenge: 6, Commercial: 7, Photo: 5, Misc: 7, Tyra’s rank: 1st, Episode score: 7.1, Cumulative score: 7.1)
  4. Heather (3): Heather slowly gained ground throughout the first half of the show, but has been steadily losing ground since then. Her inability to memorize lines and speak in front of people is seriously limiting. She is a joy to watch, but she’s too unpredictable. The commercial was abysmal, but her photo was magical. I love the fact that she tried to help Bianca despite how mean she’s been over the weeks. I’m rooting for her, but she needs to learn to speak or she’s gone. (Challenge: 9, Commercial: 1, Photo: 10, Misc: 9, Tyra’s rank: 5th, Episode score: 5.7, Cumulative score: 6.9)
  5. Bianca (5): Will Bianca ever shut up about Heather? Get over it! Bianca needs to go. Between her paranoia, poor speech, angry demeanor in photos, and quitting the challenge, Bianca deserves to leave. It’s either her or Heather next week, but my money’s on Bianca going home. (Challenge: 0, Commercial: 4, Photo: 6, Misc: 3, Tyra’s rank: 3rd, Episode score: 4.3, Cumulative score: 6.2)

Eliminated, Lisa (6): Lisa was just too fearful and insecure to continue on. The challenge was more about her panic than getting a pose, and the commercial was more about her self-condemnation than selling a product. Lisa is far too self-conscious to model. The photo was nice, but it was her time. (Challenge: 4, Commercial: 3, Photo: 8, Misc: 5, Tyra’s rank: Last, Episode score: 4.2, Cumulative score: 6.1)
