The Amazing Race 12, Episode 6: Riding in Cars With Some Guy

by Jenn Brasler -- 12/10/2007
Racers talk about karma a lot, but it’s not often when a disliked team makes such a big mistake that they have to go back and complete a task. Fortunately, this week is one of those weeks. Will that mistake spell their doom? Or will they finally learn that TK & Rachel’s (right) calm, cool, and collected method is the best for the race?

Previously on Once Again, Math Ruins Lives: Seven teams traveled from Burkina Faso to Vilnius. Christina and Ron worked on their relationship (well, Christina did most of the work). Nicolas & Donald had trouble with the Roadblock, Nathan & Jen fought, and Jennifer & Shana almost got creamed by a bus. The latter team also struggled with the Detour and the fact that they’re both kind of annoying, and they were thankfully eliminated. There are six teams left.

Howdy, Vilnius! Howdy, Vilnius! Howdy, windmill! Will Nathan change his behavior and convince Jen that they should be together (even though they totally shouldn’t)?

TK & Rachel get to research their trip to Japan, which he’s really happy about. Then they leave at 1 a.m. They’re sent to Dubrovnik, Croatia, 900 miles away. There they’ll find their next clue at the base of the Fort of St. Lawrence.

Hot Topic (Kynt & Vyxsin) leave, and they and Rachel & TK head to the airport. TK interviews that when he and Rachel are cool and mellow, they’re not just doing it because they want to be successful, but because that’s who they are. Rachel adds that it’s healthy for their state of mind and their relationship. She thinks Croatia sounds like a place where gymnasts come from. Elsewhere, Kynt interviews that he and Vyxsin support each other. He hopes to hear Phil tell them they’re the first team to arrive.

Ron & Christina leave. Christina interviews that they work they’re doing on their relationship is reflected in their progress in the race. Yeah, they’re not bickering at all. (They totally are.) She says she wants to confront conflicts right away. After Ron is quiet and calm with an airline employee, Christina tells him to be as nice to her as he is to strangers.

Hendekea & Azaria leave, and she interviews that her brother can convince anyone to do anything. She trusts that he knows what he’s doing.

At the airport, TK & Rachel use the Internet. They pull Hot Topic over as Kynt interviews that the two teams get along because they’re both kind of weird. The two teams see that the ticket counter opens at 4:30. Meanwhile, Ron & Christina make calls and get a reservation for a flight arriving in Croatia at 11:20 a.m.

Nathan & Jen leave. Jen interviews that she’s disappointed that they’re halfway through the race, and though it’s been incredible, she has regrets because they’ve fought so much. The rest of the race will decide their future.

In a cab, Hendekea tells us that as her best friend is Bosnian, she knows a little Croatian, specifically, “There’s a party in my pants.” Azaria deadpans that they might be able to get some money with that. Heh. The two arrive at the airport to find TK & Rachel snoozing.

Donald & Nicolas leave and Donald tells us that coming in so low in the pack has motivated them to give it their all. Nicolas notes that now that so few teams are left, they can’t play to not make mistakes, but now they have to play aggressively.

Ron & Christina arrive at the airport with the advantage of reservations, but they still line up with TK & Rachel and Azaria & Hendekea. They realize Hot Topic aren’t too concerned about being in line for the ticket counter. Jen & Nathan and Donald & Nicolas arrive, and Nicolas, who’s last in line, jokes that he and Donald called first in line. Hot Topic see the other teams in line but plan to hit an office that handles more than one airline.

Christina quietly tells Hendekea & Azaria to call the number she and Ron called, warning them that they need to know the correct country code. Hot Topic try to get tickets while some of the other teams wonder what they’re doing. Kynt jokes that they’re used to people pointing and staring at them. Jen considers following them to the office where they’re sitting, so she and Nathan decide to leave the line and try what Hot Topic are trying. Ron & Christina show up as well and Ron asks when the office next door opens. This leads to some bickering with Kynt. Christina tells her father not to be rude. TK interviews that he and Rachel stuck to their plan. He notes that Nicolas & Donald have really moved up in the line since everyone else is leaving it.

Hendekea & Azaria don’t have the correct country code (way to listen, guys), so they can’t get through to the airline. They’re now back in line, now at the end of it. Azaria wants to go somewhere else and Hendekea is mad that he’s making all the decisions. He tells her not to give him attitude.

The ticket agent TK & Rachel and Nicolas & Donald have been waiting for arrives and they go in to talk with her. Jen notices they’ve gotten inside and decides to join them. TK & Rachel learn about the 11:20 flight, as do Jen & Nathan. Jen is told that there are still seats available and she hopes there will still be some left when it’s her and Nathan’s turn to get tickets. Hendekea is upset that she and Azaria have lost their place in line, but Azaria doesn’t want her to get emotional over one bad decision. They need to come up with a plan instead of mope.

Christina encourages Azaria & Hendekea to follow in Hot Topic’s footsteps, so they do. Hot Topic are learning about the 11:20 flight and don’t want any interruptions. TK & Rachel get on a flight, and Nicolas & Donald wait, hoping to have enough time to make the flight. Christina & Ron head off to get their tickets, but the office isn’t open yet. Hot Topic learn of a second flight that arrives in Croatia at 11:20; one leaves later and gives them a little more time to get to it, so they take that one. Ron & Christina are lucky enough to get their tickets, as Hendekea & Azaria try to hurry an agent and he tries to calm his sister.

Nathan & Jen and Nicolas & Donald have little time to get a flight, and though Donald & Nicolas are successful, Nathan & Jen are out of time. They head down to the office where Hendekea & Azaria are, and Azaria & Hendekea tell them to head to another counter. The brother and sister get tickets.
