Dance War Finale: And The Winners Are…by Jill Jones -- 02/19/2008
View Printable version of this article Last week on Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann, Bruno’s team finally felt the thrill of victory while Carrie Ann’s experienced the agony of defeat. As a result, Alyssa was eliminated. Tonight, the stage is set for the finale. Before we begin, let’s discuss that and other items. First, I want to thank Kari for covering last week’s episode. Yes, I was out of town and had to make heart-shaped bean burgers upon my return. No, they weren’t for my love, so there were no ruined surprises; he doesn’t like beans and even gags when I eat them! Second, how is this finale going to work? So far, only three people have been eliminated. A fourth one will probably be gone at some point tonight. I assumed when the show started, the participants would be whittled down to a group of two or three, not a group of 237. I guess that proves what happens when I assume. Third, rumor has it that the Dancing with the Stars cast will be announced tonight. Yeah, I suppose that’s exciting, but do we really need to make this show longer than it already is? OK, enough of that! Let’s get started and finish off this beast. Drew welcomes us to the show and says he will perform tonight. He then takes us on what he refers to as a journey. In other words, we get a recap of the entire season. 25 minutes later, Drew performs with both teams to “Steppin’ Out.” I don’t know why, but every routine this seasoned featured the men doing something with their jackets, shirts, or collars; this one is no exception. Collectively, everyone sounds great. Individually, there are problems with some of the notes. Drew’s voice doesn’t sound like someone who was in a boy band. Bruno and Carrie Ann join the teams. Carrie Ann’s dress is adorable. She has sported some sweet dresses on the show. Bruno busts a move. Earlier in the week, Bruno took his team to a resort to relax. Unfortunately, the fun comes to an end and it’s back to practice. He tells the group it will be performing “These Boots Were Made for Walking” again. Everyone talks about how critical tonight’s performances are. Technically, the decision on who wins has already been made, so I’m not sure why this sentiment is being made. Team Bruno now performs. The vocals are actually quite good tonight. Unfortunately, the routine turns funky like it did the first time it was performed. The good news, though, is that it isn’t nearly as annoying tonight as it was before. Overall, the performance is enjoyable and one of the best from the team. Bruno gives everyone props. Carrie Ann says everyone is a winner. Next, we’re reminded of Carrie Ann’s loss the week before. Chris mumbles something. At rehearsals, Bradley says his family will be there. Carrie Ann tells her team that they will perform “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.” Yeah, well, my dad was a sailor. The team performs and everything is right on. I don’t think the team could do a better job if it practiced for the next three years. Carrie Ann compliments the individuals on creating a team Bruno says the team is more entertaining than ever. Drew reminds us that Dancing with the Stars begins on March 17. Kenny Mayne (in full makeup), Jerry Rice, and Lisa Rinna introduce the first three new cast members: Marlee Matlin, Penn Jillette, and Marissa Jaret Winokur. What? Huh? Who? The rest of the cast will be announced later. Clips of Team Bruno recording its first single are shown. Everyone is in awe of the process. The team is now set to perform “Falling in Love.” The opening is cheesy; Phillip implores us to get it started. There’s a lot of suggestive touching and, well, that’s distracting. The song isn’t great, but it does grow on me as it goes along. Bruno says, “Wow!” He also tells the team that it can make anything happen. Carrie Ann says a lot of girls and guys are falling in love right now. Drew reminds us the song can be downloaded right this minute. Go! Do it! Kenny, Jerry, and Lisa are back. The next stars named to the Dancing with the Stars cast are Adam Carolla, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Christian de la Fuente. After a short break, we learn that the next three stars are Monica Seles, Mario, and Steve Guttenberg. Drew chats with Alyssa, Tony, and Charity. He asks what it’s like to watch their former teammates. Nothing important is mentioned, so we’ll move on. Team Carrie Ann now hits the recording studio. In practice, Carrie Ann surprises the team with a CD of their song. The team performs “Come with It.” The singing and dancing are full of attitude. Again, this isn’t my favorite song, but it’s catchy. Drew pimps the team’s song. Carrie Ann loves the team members’ chemistry. Bruno says the team was alive. Kenny, Jerry, and Lisa reveal the last three celebrities on Dancing with the Stars. They are Jason Taylor, Shannon Elizabeth, and Priscilla Presley. Honestly, I think this is the most interesting bunch of celebrities the show has seen. That isn’t good enough, though; Bruno and Carrie Ann weigh in on the cast, and Bruno makes a comment about the stars having big feet. We’ll just leave it at that. Back to the show at hand… both teams take to the stage and perform to “One Night Only.” Again, the cheese level is raised to new heights. The best part, though, is seeing Carrie Ann and Bruno dancing in the audience. Drew now reveals the team that has won a recording contract from Hollywood Records. It is Team Bruno! Whoa! What a surprise! Bruno thanks the audience while Team Carrie Ann stands in disbelief. Bruno rambles on and Drew has to wrestle the microphone from him. Carrie Ann tells her team members they have great things coming to them. With that, Team Bruno is named the champion of Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann. If you ask me, we’re the champions since we made it through the season. Hooray! Thank you for joining me and sharing your thoughts about the program. Don’t forget to tune in to ABC next month for Dancing with the Stars. I’ll be back to recap all of the action.
