America’s Next Top Model 10: Top Model Tips

There are two really big examples I can think of for this rule. The first would be Gina from Cycle 6. Gina had great model features and the judges loved her face. However, she let all the other girls get to her, especially Jade, and she was so self-conscious about herself that she would stumble at almost every photo shoot and would mess up even the easiest of challenges. It wasn’t long before the judges realized there was nothing they could do to build her up in such a short time frame, so she was sent packing.

Anchal from Cycle 7 had the same issues. She had great features and would have definitely gone further in the competition if she hadn’t been so hard on herself and let the other girls talking about her bother her so much. Instead of staying focused and working on her flaws, Anchal embraced them, believed the other girls, and sent herself into a downward spiral. It could have been avoided, but she just wasn’t focused!

Tip #6 – Roll with the punches and don’t fight with the judges. We all know that once you are on the bad side of the judges, it’s pretty tough to get back over on the good side – especially Twiggy, she knows how to hold a grudge! Instead of snapping back at the judges when they say something you don’t agree with, try a “Thank you, I will work on that” instead. I bet it will work wonders.

Last season, Twiggy chose Victoria to be her target to pick on. When Victoria tried to defend herself and say that she didn’t have a prickly disposition, Twiggy and the other judges snapped back that she was too big for her britches and needed to learn some respect. Same thing went for Jael during Cycle 8. Every time she would have a comeback for the judges, they would like her less and less. Since she was clinically crazy, it led to her downfall. I mean, if you are going to be crazy, at least respect the judges!

Tip #7 – Show the judges you want to win. How many times have we seen a girl who did great but couldn’t care less go home rather than a girl who didn’t have stellar photos but REALLY wanted to win? I’d say at least 10 times. The girls who want to be there will outlast the girls who are there to do something new – that’s a fact. AJ had to have been one of the best girls during Cycle 7, but it was no secret that she didn’t care if she was sent home today or tomorrow, so when she had a so-so photo shoot and the judges caught wind of her attitude, she was sent home. Cycle 5’s Bre didn’t always have the best photos and she was in the bottom many times, but the judges knew that she wanted to win and that she would do anything to stay, so she stuck around until the final three. A little passion goes a long way.

Tip #8 – Show confidence, not cockiness. Yes, there is a difference, and the judges can see right through you. Yaya from season three won so many challenges in a row that it quickly went to her head and she was beginning to think that she could do no wrong. The judges didn’t like the new attitude at all and shot her to the bottom two as a wake-up call. There’s a difference between doing well and feeling you can do no wrong.

Cycle 10’s Ebony thought that she was all that and a bag of chips. That is until the judges broke her down and still felt that she was being cocky and standoffish when it came to panel. Ebony put up this façade that she was so tough and cocky, that when she was exposed for not really being that way, it made the judges really question her being there. Granted, she ended up quitting, but her time was coming.

One thing the girls need to realize is that you are not going to be perfect at everything. It just doesn’t work that way. You might be the best runway walker in the group, but that doesn’t mean you are going to be able to smile with your eyes. Just because you can give a fierce headshot doesn’t mean you won’t fall apart when its time to pose nude. There are so many variables in this competition that being cocky won’t get you anywhere fast except a trip to the bottom two.

So there you have it – The Top Model Tips. If the girls this season follow these eight simple tips, they will be well on their way to not only winning the competition, but quite possibly being the next Tyra Banks. Okay, well, maybe not that far, but you know what I mean. I’m looking forward this season to breaking down each loss and getting the skinny from the girls when I do their interviews. I think both articles will tie in nicely and really give us a sense as to if they were following the tips or not! Until then… work it like the rent is due!
