"The Challenges Were a Little Weird" – An Interview with America's Next Top Model 10's Marvita

by Phil Kural -- 03/21/2008
Marvita was the fourth girl sent home this season on America’s Next Top Model when the judges felt like she just didn’t care. Was that the case? Why did she decide to try out again? What did she think of Fatima and her comments? Let me give you a hint – it ain’t pretty! Click here for all the details.

I was so on the fence about Marvita. On one hand, I liked that she had the balls to actually go for it and try out for the show again. On the other, I was SO over her whole story, which I feel was rammed down our throats. That being said, I really did enjoy speaking with her, and got a lot of insight into what was going on behind the scenes. As always, I had a chance to chat with Marvita on what was going on, so here is what she had to say!

RealityNewsOnline: Hey, Marvita! Thanks for taking time out of your schedule to talk with me today. What made you decide to try out for the show again this season, after being sent home during the semi-finals last year?

Marvita: It was all determination and drive. Tyra told me last cycle to try out again and not to give up, so I decided to follow her advice. I went through the whole audition process again, and it was totally worth it, since it really paid off this time.

RNO: How would you describe this season compared with last season? Was it harder or easier?

Marvita: Well, this season is a little more different from any other season that I have ever seen. The girls this season were just crazy. I mean, we had a 40 ounce [beer] in the house, which I must add that it was Lauren that requested it. She had been requesting it for weeks, and they finally gave it to her… we got drunk that night, and it was so much fun!

RNO: Looking back at the girls that made it into the house last season, do you feel you would have done better that Cycle?

Marvita: I really can’t say if I would have done better or not because there was so much different. I can say that I’m happy with the way this season turned out, and where I placed. I did so well, and I’m very proud of myself.

RNO:The judges main problem with you was that they didn’t feel like you wanted to be there. Was that true at all?

Marvita: No, that wasn’t true. I did want to be there, and I didn’t think I was coming off the way I was. To be honest, I liked my last photo, so I didn’t think I would really be in danger. I tried to turn it around in panel when the judges said I looked defeated, but I think they go off your pictures and your attitude. I didn’t think they would say I looked defeated, since I know every girl in panel is nervous about what the judges will say – we all looked that way!

RNO: How did you feel after hearing and watching all the comments made about you by Fatima? Did you realize she was talking so much about you?

Marvita: Fatima is a retard. She’s evil and has a black heart. I’m not surprised at all over the things she said. It’s not something you can try and fix with her, since I have tried and so have the other girls. No matter how much you try with that girl, she is down right evil, and I’m just going to leave it at that.

RNO:Was being on the show what you expected? Was it harder than you imagined it would be?

Marvita: When you watch the show, you think it’s so easy, but it was so much harder than I expected it to be. Being in front of the panel is so scary, and you sweat it out before it’s your turn. When I was in the house with the other girls, I was fine! The photos weren’t hard – I liked that part! I learned so much from Mr. Jay during the photo shoots, but the challenges were a little weird.

RNO:We heard several times about your tough upbringing. How do you feel that affected you, if at all, during the competition?

Marvita:If anything, I think it helped me. I always thought in the back of my mind, no matter what I was doing, that I was doing this to have a better life. I didn’t want to go home. A lot of people have come to me saying that I have inspired them to try and never give up. My whole reason for doing the show and sharing my story was to help people and let them realize that even though you think it’s over, there is always a way to turn it around. And I think I did that.

RNO: Besides maybe showing a little more passion for the competition, do you think there is anything you could have done to stick around longer?

Marvita: Had a better day? Ha! I don’t know. I’m not mad that I was sent home. Now I have a chance to really go out there and look for agencies and everything. I feel like I can really be ME now.

RNO: When you were standing with Whitney in the bottom two, did you have a feeling it would be you going home or did you still think you had a chance of staying?

Marvita:I had no clue I was going home. When she said that someone wants it more than the other, I thought I was staying. I was in shock when I was sent home, since I had no clue it was coming. It’s all good though, since I really like Whitney.

RNO: From being on the show, to actually watching it on TV, have you been surprised at what has aired and what hasn’t?

Marvita: Yes, I have been so shocked. The whole me and Lauren thing with the 40oz – I had no clue that would be on the show! We were just having fun and getting a little drunk, so I had no clue that something like that would actually make it onto the show!

RNO: You have been through the ringer twice now. Would you do it again if they asked you to?

Marvita: No way, I would never do that show again. I’d do another reality show, though! Oh, please, who am I kidding – if Tyra came to me tomorrow and asked me to be on the show again, I would say okay!

RNO: What is the most important lesson that you learned from being on the show?

Marvita: I learned that you should never give up. Seriously, I really did learn that it’s not over until it’s over. You have to learn that you need to go for what you want, since it won’t come to you.

RNO:So, with everything said and done, is modeling still something you are going to try and get into?

Marvita: Oh, yeah, of course! I plan on looking for agencies in the near future and moving to NYC so that I can really go out there and sell myself. I want to really pursue this.

RNO: What else do you have scheduled in the near future? Is there anywhere we can expect to see you soon?

Marvita: I would love to do some red carpet and other stuff. I don’t have a specific goal, but to be as frank as possible, I want to be everywhere! I just want to do it all, now that my name is out there.

RNO: Is there anything you would like to add or say to fans of the show?

Marvita:Thanks to everyone for watching the show and voting for me, and for all the kindness and blessings. Thank you to everyone that helped out in one way or another, and thank God for all the fans because, without them, there wouldn’t be a show to begin with, and I never would have had this happen to me.

RNO: Thanks, Marvita!
