America’s Next Top Model 10, Episode 6: I’ve Got the Music in MePage 2View Printable version of this article Today’s shoot is staged in Brooklyn and each of the girls will have to pose like a certain genre of music. Fatima is up first posing as if she’s heavy metal. She actually looks like a black version of Bret Michaels of Rock of Love fame (…another guilty pleasure of mine. Hee hee!). She does an okay job, but she looks very posey. Katarzyna is up next with a shorter wig that is cut in a bob. It really looks great on her face and she doesn’t look as much like a generic bathing suit model. She has sort of a Pat Benatar look to her. Lauren looks about six feet tall in bright red boots and a high ponytail. She stumbles over her towering heels through the shoot. She just looks uncomfortable. Claire comes out in a huge square dancing skirt and a blonde Betty Boop wig, portraying the country music genre. She actually struggles though this shoot as she can’t find a balance between campy and couture. Dominique does hippie-folk well. Anya rocks punk music. Stacy-Ann gets a little posey representing house music (though my 40 years are showing as I don’t know what this is). Aimee is supposed to work R&B music and is trying to be a diva. The photographer struggles to get her to think about what she’s doing and what the music represents. Jay all but says, “Bless her heart,” as he tells us that he think she just doesn’t have enough life experience to emote anything R&B. For those of you not from the south, “bless her heart” is the polite, Southern way of saying, “what an idiot.” I’ve lived in Texas and Mississippi long enough to understand that phrase by now. Whitney does grunge on top of an old diving board. She embodies the music type, leaving the photographer and Jay grinning that she did such an amazing job. Aimee and Claire are both very nervous about their shots this week, and neither think they did well. Both girls have had a lot of screen time this week, wedged in between the yapping Dominique. One of the three will likely go home if we just look at the editing. As much as I’d like to see Dominique back on Talk Soup again, I’m about done with her. Aren’t you? Whitney, my girl, is up first. Jay’s positive comments added to the judges’ delight with her photo bode well for her this week. Fatima’s photo actually came out well also, despite looking so posey during the shoot. Anya follows with a decent picture, but the critique to her and all the girls is that they need to be sure to follow the light, meaning that they should be completely aware of where the light is and how it’s hitting their face. Lauren’s photo looks very Britney-like, before all the craziness of her life started. Ms. J asks her to come down the panel runway as if she is present and alive. She just needs to show more confidence, or at least fake it! The panel doesn’t like Aimee’s shot, as we figured with all the problems the photographer had with her. Stacy-Ann isn’t the golden child either and the judges tell her she needs to be more fluid. On the other side, the panel loves Katarzyna’s photo and even more, they love the look of her shorter hair in the wig. They hint to her that someone may just show up at the apartment in the next few days with some scissors. They tell her that this shot was her best to date. Back on the negative side, Claire comes up for her photo and Tyra says that it’s her worst to date. I have to say I agree with her as the country style photo could’ve been so much better. She had an opportunity to make the shot so fun and lively, yet it comes across sullen. They’d better not get rid of her, as I think she’s one of the strongest models. Oops, I forgot about Dominique as she comes up last. Her photo is nice and it’s softer than usual, but it’s not my favorite of the night. The judges give her mixed reviews. The judges deliberate and call the girls back for the results. In order they call Whitney first (yay) followed by Katarzyna, Fake Fatima, Lauren, Anya, Dominique, and Stacy-Ann. This leaves Aimee and Claire in the bottom for the first time each. Claire is visibly ticked at herself and Aimee is already starting to tear up. It’s as if she knows she is gone. Sure enough, Tyra pulls Claire’s photo and Aimee’s tears flow. Claire jumps for joy, visibly relieved. She nearly forgets to go back to hug Aimee. Aimee sobs her way out the back as Ms. J pulls her nametape off his chest. She believes that the panel thought she was not mature enough for the competition and looking back, I think she’s right. She’s a beautiful girl and I’m sure she’ll be picked up by a modeling agency in the future once she gets the hang of it more. Coming up next week, there are shots of Katarzyna practicing walking and sporting a shorter coif. The girls go on go-sees in New York. Whitney’s confidence drops as she’s told that there really isn’t a place for her on the runway as a size 10. Lucky us, there’s more of Dominique flapping her trap and more catfights between some of the girls. Oh goody!
