Dancing with the Stars 6, April 8: Tiny Dancers

by Jill Jones -- 04/09/2008
It’s week four and another couple is eliminated. But before that happens, we meet children who are ballroom dancers and find out what Aaron’s bird thinks of Daniela. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the couples took on the Viennese waltz and the paso doble; goobers were tossed around like Len's underwear in a dryer; I predicted that Karina & Mario would be eliminated tonight for no particular reason. If none of that sounds familiar, then read my recap so that you can catch up.

Tom and Samantha open the show and get right to the special guest. Sheryl Crow performs “All I Wanna Do.” What, does she have a plane to catch or something? Kym, Fabian, Edyta, and Tony take to the dance floor while Sheryl sings.

After a review of last night’s dancing, Len tells us that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Julianne & Adam to perform the encore dance. It’s official; the judges have lost their minds.

Tom reminds us that so far this season, one of the two couples under the dreaded red lights has not necessarily been in the bottom two. That’s all changing tonight; the final two couples will actually be the couples with the lowest scores.

Backstage, Samantha talks to Marissa & Tony and Shannon & Derek. We learn that if Shannon & Derek had been asked to do the encore performance, they would have kissed at the end of their dance.

Oh, and in one of her interviews, Priscilla tells us that she enjoys keeping both feet off of the floor at once. I’m not going to touch that one.

Next, Tom and Samantha review the current standings:

RANKINGSTARSCOREJILL’S RANKING
1 Jason 29 8
1 Kristi 29 1
3 Shannon 28 3
4 Cristián 26 5
5 Mario 24 4
5 Marlee 24 2
5 Marissa 24 6
8 Priscilla 22 7
9 Adam 19 9

It’s time to find out the first two safe couples. They are Edyta & Jason and Kristi & Mark.

Our esteemed co-hosts tell us that each week, children studying ballroom dancing will perform and be judged by the show’s judges. Tonight, competing in the nine-and-under category are Daniela & Aaron. Aaron tells us that his bird doesn’t like Daniela.

Alrighty then. They perform the samba to “Under the Sea.” Not only are these kids cute, but they’re also good… they’re really good!

Len says he was disappointed that the routine wasn’t longer; he really enjoyed it. Bruno tells Daniela she looks like a tropical goldfish. Carrie Ann can’t stop smiling.

Rashell & Aaron (a different one) perform next. Aaron enjoys science and Rashell collects snow globes. Jill needs a drink.

They are dancing the paso doble. These kids’ movements are sharp and crisp. I hope Adam is paying attention.

Bruno tells the tiny couple that it is a super power. Carrie Ann says she loved the drama of the dance. Len refers to the dance as sharp and precise.

The kids talk to Samantha backstage; they’ll never be the same again. The judges decide that the couple returning to perform again is Rashell & Aaron. Don’t they have school?

Sheryl sings “Out of Our Heads.” The 2006 world cup professional Latin champions dance, but I miss their names and my Internet connection is down. If someone could identify them for me, I would appreciate it.

The dancers talk about how great it is to perform while various artists perform. The singers also give the dancers props. There, I saved you three minutes of your life.

Tom and Samantha reveal the next couple that is moving on in the competition. It is Marlee & Fabian.

Samantha bothers some of the couples backstage. If we took her out of the equation, the show would only be 23 minutes long.

Two more couples find out that they are safe. The receivers of the good news are Cheryl & Cristián and Karina & Mario. I was wrong about this week’s elimination, but am glad about it; I think Karina & Mario have a lot of potential together.

After a quick commercial break, Tom and Samantha tell us who is safe and who is in the bottom two. Shannon & Derek and Marissa & Tony are safe. That means Julianne & Adam and Priscilla & Louis are in the bottom two.

The couple that has been eliminated is Julianne & Adam. Priscilla breathes a sigh of relief.

Adam tells us that he lost 20 pounds of fat and gained 105 pounds of angel. Julianne cries. Adam promises to dance his way to the buffet.

With that, another couple leaves the dance floor. Join me next week as we move one step closer to crowning a champion. Hopefully, there will be no more mention of Len’s underpants.

Jill is an east coast mama who loves Michael Kors, Bea Arthur, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. If she were in a room with the three of them, she might explode. She can be reached at jillcjones@zoominternet.net to discuss these individuals and other topics.
