Last Comic Standing 6, Episode 10: Bedtime For Bimbosby Dale Sherman -- 07/25/2008
View Printable version of this article Just a quick couple of notes to start off: Episode 9 of LCS6 did rather nicely for NBC, with them being number one in the 18-49 demos for the first hour. Looks at this rate that we’ll no doubt see a seventh season of the series next year. Also, the Courier-Journal, a local Louisville, KY newspaper, had an article in their television section talking to one of the ten comics who has appeared in the Last Comic Driving contest/ads that have appeared every week. Steve Dupin – known by his stage-name of Stevie D. – discussed how he was one of a hundred comics who tried out for the Last Comic Driving competition and that the winner will be revealed during the finale of LCS on August 7. So that means that there are only two more episodes left of the series after Episode 10. At an estimated two hours an episode (one was only 90 minutes, but another was two-and-a-half hours long), that means 24 network hours of programming, which I believe is a record for the series. But before we get to the end, we still have one final week in the house to discuss. It starts with Iliza discussing how she “killed” in the showdown in Episode 9 and won by 68%. Actually, 68% was how much she won by in Episode 8. In Episode 9 Bill stated she won by 62%. Bad editing or a faulty memory? I’m assuming editing, for having her talk like that after her first win probably would have turned off some viewers as her being too smug about her chances. Out in the dining room, the guys gather around to talk about Iliza and if they want to challenge her again or avoid it. Louis feels they should not challenge her again because the show is in danger of being all about Iliza and no one else. Sean and Jeff seem conflicted about the advice, however, with Jeff feeling that the point of the show is to find out who is the funniest, not who is the best strategist. The man does have a point. And a pair. Soon the comics are leaving to take a bus over to a Japanese restaurant. Bill is waiting for them and is that him briefly doing a Japanese accent? Belzer and Schirripa won’t like that. (Or am I going too far back to make a joke connection?) He tells them that they will be serving food and telling jokes to several groups of people: a party of women bodybuilders, some of the models from Deal or No Deal, a group of frat boys from Sigma Pi… eh… somewhere, and a number of little people. Adam and Ron appear with the Deal or No Deal models and Adam repeats a joke from one of his earlier appearances about being stopped by the cops, while Ron looks on. Louis and Sean try to make the bodybuilders laugh, with Sean going for physical humor by showing off the flabbiness of his body. Marcus and Jeff compete with impressions of Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Walken (which Marcus has done four times already on the program) over at the table with the little people and are told not to give up their day job. Actually, the editing makes it appears someone is telling Jeff that after his impression of Walken, as the same one is seen saying “not bad” after Marcus does his version, but it’s hard to tell what she was referring to really as the editing is all in close-ups when she speaks. She could have been saying those things to someone else completely as far as the viewers at home can tell. Wrapping up at the restaurant, Jim tells a joke about his half-brother and half-sister that goes over well with one of the little people, Iliza tells a joke about Creatine-ager that only the bodybuilders would get, Ron tries to get on with the models, and Louis finally just gives up when having to deal with the frat boys. Aaaannnddddd, that’s it. No purpose for the event except to kill time and get them out of the house. I think they really should have given someone at least a token win after all the effort there, but that wasn’t the case. Back at the house, the comics go in expecting a clue to their next challenge. With the first one being eggs and the second being carrots, Marcus comments that he figures it to be “something delicious to put in your mouth.” Instead they find fake silicone breasts on their pillows. This is amazing because “Breasts on My Pillow” is my favorite song by Little Anthony and the Imperials. Heh. Yeah, that was a reach, but I couldn’t get that song out of my head all night after thinking of it. The comics all guess as to what the clue means. Jeff jokes that it means they’ll be breastfeeding kids. Iliza makes an interesting guess with Silicon Valley; it’s not a perfect guess, but not a bad one, really. Marcus tries to think of another comic with “giant boobs besides Rosanne.” Sean hits on the idea that the breasts being on the bed is important. My guess – a bizarre plastic-surgeon reenactment of the scene with the horse in The Godfather. Jeff responds to Sean’s idea by believing that it means doing comedy in bed. Well, that’s better and certainly less violent than my suggestion. As they head off in the short-bus, Sean suggests that maybe it’s a very erotic synagogue by putting the fake breast on his head. One has to wonder why he is still clutching it by that point anyway, but a gag is a gag. Soon they arrive at their destination – the Playboy Mansion. It’s a place ripe for comedy, but most of that would be antagonistic to being there – or allowing them to film there – so we don’t get any of it in the program. Iliza does get a chance to sarcastically mention that she was thrilled to be there with all those girls bouncing around, but that’s as nasty of a poke at Playboy that you get on the program. 1 2 3 4 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
