Big Brother 10, August 14: I Need a Miracle

by William Hammon -- 08/15/2008
It’s eviction night in the Big Brother house, and there is a last-ditch effort to save Libra (right). Will it succeed, or will she become the first member of the jury? Will the power in the house shift yet again after the Head of Household competition? The answers are within.

Previously on Big Brother 10, Michelle won Head of Household (HOH) and a shouting match ensued. She sought revenge for Jessie’s eviction by nominating Keesha and Libra. Jerry shocked the whole house by winning the Power of Veto (POV) for the second straight week. He then shocked the house again by not using the POV, but still using his speech to openly lambaste Dan, who he now refers to as “Judas.”

Chenbot! Activate!

We are once again live with our studio audience, and tonight, either Keesha or Libra walks out of the Big Brother house and into the jury house. But first, as always, there’s some last-minute campaigning, and once again, it may come down to Dan.

We start as always with the blue-toned past to show us what the announcer just told us 30 seconds ago. Once again, Jerry does not use the POV, instead using his forum to get on a soapbox about Dan. As he closes the Veto box, we get the guitar riff to color.

Diary Room Libra is more upset at Jerry than anything else. She says that this isn’t the Marines, this is Big Brother, where honor and integrity have no value. Renny says that when Jerry launches a personal attack like that, he looks worse than Dan. Back in real time, Dan apologizes yet again for actions beyond his control, and says he didn’t sell Jessie out.

Up in the HOH room, Michelle and Memphis also express shock at Jerry’s words. Michelle thinks Jerry’s put a huge target on himself, and she thought he was going to use the POV. Memphis, in private, says it’s just one more stupid thing for Jerry. He adds that he’s glad it was Dan, because if Jerry had said that stuff to him, he would have flipped out.

Libra and Keesha comfort Dan in the spa, rather than each other. They apologize that he’s being called out like this. They all agree that it’s a game, and they don’t personally blame Michelle for their situation. They made their own bed. Libra assures Keesha that she’s fine, and says she’d bet her last dollar on her own eviction. Keesha reminds us that Jessie also thought he was safe.

In the Diary Room, Dan looks morose for a moment, then celebrates the fact that things could not be better for him. Jerry calling him out like that has resulted in an outpouring of sympathy, and no one is after him now. Honestly, the way Dan flips his reactions like one would a light switch is highly reminiscent of Will and Boogie. I say he’s worthy of a membership in Chilltown if he makes it a few more weeks.

In the latest episode of “April is Bat-Poo Insane,” we see her and Ollie discussing (read: lambasting) Keesha in the backyard. She says that she doesn’t trust Keesha any further than she could throw her, and that she’s a manipulative liar. Ollie wonders why Keesha has a problem with April, and April shrugs it off with the simple “facts” that April is prettier than Keesha, and that Keesha is obviously uneducated because she never went to college.

Outside, Memphis and Dan assure Keesha that they have her back. When she goes inside, Memphis proposes an alliance with Dan, and after this week, they stay with Renny and Keesha for a few weeks. They agree, and Dan admits he’s thinking of alliance names. They settle on “The Renegades.” They’ll all be aligned, but since Keesha is tight with Renny, all information the men share with the women will be on a need-to-know basis.

Ollie lays on top of April in bed, the only indicator on the broadcast show of what they do almost every night, and the two try to figure out how to get rid of Keesha. April tells us that she, Ollie, and Jerry will all vote the same way. They need Dan to be the fourth vote, to prevent Michelle from breaking a tie. They decide that they’ll approach Dan and tell him that Libra will keep him, but Keesha, Renny, and Memphis won’t. He’s an outcast in his own alliance is what they’ll tell him. The only way he’ll be safe is to vote out Keesha. They can’t be this stupid, can they?

Ollie tells us that if they can get the votes to keep Libra, they’ll flip the house one more time. He approaches Libra in the storage room and tells her there’s a chance. However, she has to be the one to convince Dan to turn.

Libra finds Dan in the kitchen washing dishes with April, who apparently thinks this is an occasion for high heels. She pulls Dan into the storage room to plead her case. Dan says he’s open to the possibility, but needs more information. Very smart, Dan. Give her hope, but don’t commit. Libra won’t tell him who’s planning to keep her, but says the house will likely split, and she needs his vote; otherwise Michelle will send her home on tiebreaker.

In the Diary Room, Dan weighs his options. On the one hand, Keesha is counting on him to save her, and if he doesn’t, that’s one very angry jury member. On the other hand, if he keeps Libra, she would remain a constant target in the house, and she wouldn’t come after him.

It’s time for the first commercial break… but no! It’s the return of Diary Room Sessions About the Vote that Never Say Anything Useful (DRSATVTNSAU)! I was so happy thinking we were done with this device forever. Okay, then. Jerry says he wants to vote out Keesha because she’s playing Memphis hard, and he wants to break them up. Ollie says that voting Keesha out would send a message that she’s barking up the wrong tree by disagreeing with him and April. April says that she absolutely can’t stand Keesha. She’s manipulative, a liar, and has a hyena’s laugh (the third item being the only one of the three that doesn’t apply to April as well). She says she pities America for having to put up with Keesha. The apology for putting up with April is not forthcoming.
