Canadian Idol 6, September 2: The Final Two Are Defined!by Brian Towers -- 09/03/2008
View Printable version of this article Series host Ben Mulroney pops out of the audience and tells us over 3.7 votes were cast this week. That’s the same as last week. Ben then cues the playing of a recap of last night’s performances. That done, Ben brings out Bryan Adams’s, who performs “18 Till I Die,” and after a commercial break, “She’s Got A Way” from the current CD, “11.” No doubt, Bryan still rocks with the best of them! Ben congratulates Bryan on his addition to Canada’s Walk Of Fame. Here’s a surprise – the induction is airing this Sunday, 7PM (ET). Do you know where? Why, it’s on this same network! Like, who knew? As threatened in last night’s episode, after being previewed twice, we now get extended video of the Idols most recent trip home. It was actually over a week ago. Each Idol meets a lot of adoring fans and performs for a rabid crowd bigger than any they’ve ever faced before. Drew’s visit is shown first, then Theo’s, then Mitch’s (after another commercial). There’s no more time for entertainment or frivolity, as Ben must start the process of reporting on the results. Ben repeats judge comments for all three, and then kills the building tension by asking BPRQs (Boring Predictable Response Questions) of the judges. Farley is asked, “What has been the most gratifying thing for you about how these guys evolved as performers?” He says the judges hope for good song choices, and these three have represented themselves as artists consistently well through their choices. Ben next asks Jake what is important as the Idols work with the guest mentors. He says they can only gain from the experience. Zack is asked if he has any advice for the final two as they prepare for the finale. He responds, “Win, lose, or draw, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. You gotta spend this week really enjoying the whole gift of what this show has given you.” Sass is asked if she has anything to say to the final three. She says they’ve done “all and more than I expected,” and if she can ever help them out, they should give her a call. We’re off to the final commercial. As soon as the show returns, Ben immediately tells us the Idol receiving the fewest votes last night and heading home tonight… is Drew Wright! Drew’s funeral video is run. In it, Drew admits he achieved more than he ever thought he would. He thinks he’s come out of his shell and become a better musician as well. Back live, Drew sings us out with “Cuts like A Knife,” and we’re done! He lays down a darn solid version, actually. Next week – the finale! Performances on Monday, results Wednesday (not Tuesday).
