Caesars 24/7, Episode 21: The Perfect Weddingby Brian Towers -- 05/02/2005
View Printable version of this article This is the second of two back-to-back half-hour episodes of Caesars 24/7 airing this week. Read on to get the lowdown of the second episode. You can read about the first episode here. What do we have to look forward to in this episode? Sportsbook staff face pressure, a new alternative club opens, and a partying groom may ruin a woman's perfect wedding We start with Chuck Esposito, Caesars legal bookie. We haven’t seen him for a long while on this series. It’s opening weekend in the NFL, and excitement is high. He estimates that industry-wide, $40 million is bet on football each Sunday. I know I had my $2 down. It’s Chuck’s job to set the odds so the betting is as even as possible between the two teams, or else they may suffer a big loss. Or, they get a big win, though Chuck overlooks telling us that little tidbit. The early games worked out pretty in the casino’s favor but the afternoon games more or less evened things out, so the Sunday night game (Chiefs-Broncos) will decide if the bettors or the bookie will be the big winner this weekend. Broncos are favored by three. Chuck says this game will decide, “If we’re smiling or they‘re smiling.” We next meet wedding coordinator Jennifer Bartol. Jennifer is working with bride Tiffany, whom she calls, “definitely a perfectionist.” Tiffany wants to be sure all the details are taken care of (they are). She is spending a lot of time picking her flowers, making multiple trips and even visits the usually-not-open-to-the-public warehouse to see the actual flowers. We meet a second bride, Polly. Polly is with her girlfriends, who are all happy for her. There’s much hugging and kissing – in the girl-friendly manner, you understand – and it looks like some serious female bonding is going on. Then, “the less favorable relatives show up,” and one has the audacity to comment, “I thought you were going to lose weight for the wedding.” Now, Polly’s not a small woman like Tiffany, but, bi-yatch! I bet she gave a green toaster as her wedding present! I think we need to leave Polly to think about her response. New club owner Sia wants it known that his new club, Krave, is “a premier club.” It’s not part of Caesars, but is located nearby. Their sign is enormous. Krave caters to the gay and lesbian lifestyle alternatives. The mayor of Las Vegas is there to acknowledge the opening of the new nightclub. He wonders if they’ll be ready to open in time. We next meet a group of guys in their room. Jeffrey promises that his outfit for tonight is “the height of wild.” Alex and Jimmy are there too, and tonight, they’re going to take Alex’s brother Javier out for his birthday… to Krave. Jeffery has on clothes I’m pleased to say I cannot describe. Suffice to say, the underneath part came out of a soft-bondage catalogue and the covering top used to be owned by David Bowie in the “Space Oddity” days. Meanwhile, back at recently-insulted Polly’s room, she shows restraint to her sister-in-law-to-be and decides not to respond. Ah, the high road approach, very mature. The way her sister-in-law is laughing, she’s either a complete idiot or just said it because the cameras are on. Oh wait, that’s just proof of the former. Wedding planner Jennifer is wondering if the groom and groomsmen are a little too party-anxious. And sure enough, a drinking game has broken out and they’re doing shots. Fifteen minutes before the wedding, an emotional Polly is still getting ready and the boys are half in the bag already. They want to throw Jennifer in the pool, which, you know, actually sounds like a fun idea for this show – most of these wedding stories are kind of dull! It’s time to check in at the sports bar. There are some high rollers present – one guy bets $5,000 on the Chiefs. I guess a lot of others did, too, for most of the money is on the Chiefs. That means that our bookie Chuck is rooting for the Broncos. The Chiefs get off to an early lead and Chuck is pacing. It’s time for the birthday boys to go. Jeffery has completed his outfit with metal kneepads and silver makeup that is probably closer to face painting. Javier arrives and we find out he is straight. His first question is, “Are there going to be girls in this place?” They assure him there will be, though it could be they mean lesbians. As they take a cab to the club, Jeffrey proudly displays his ray gun. 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
