The Apprentice 3, Episode 16 Extras: Her Way

We start off with Brian, Chris, and Kristen’s banner wars. There’s nothing new there - we just get to see the three of them bicker again. Children, please, Mommy has a headache. Tana tries to arbitrate, but they’re not interested in her method of conflict resolution.

In contrast, things are going well over at Webster Hall. Danny says that there’s a lot to do and not much time to do it. It looks like everyone is working very hard, though, and not panicking that things won’t get done. Kendra makes sure that there’s a PlayStation banner in the main room. Downstairs, Aimee is now happy with PlayStation’s area.

Michael sets up for the VIP party. The area looks really nice, and I’m more impressed by Michael than I ever thought I’d be. As people start arriving, Michael says that he’s enjoyed this portion of the task and wants to get into the nightclub business. Danny greets Fabulous as Erin talks to some VIPs about the charity events that night. Danny does something very smart - he steps outside and makes sure the GQ VIPs are let into Webster Hall without any trouble. I think that the fact that he recognized them by face and told the woman in charge of the guest list that they were from GQ and could go right in was a very good move, since they’re sponsoring the VIP party. After the party, Michael says that one of the GQ execs complimented him on the entire event. He adds that they’ve done a lot of work to ensure Kendra’s victory.

Tana’s VIP party is a little fancier and more low-key than Kendra’s. Amy is happy. Tana makes a smart move by table-hopping to spend a little time with the guests. Brian says that Tana is great at PR and aims to please.

After Kendra’s event, she and her team spend a little time together. Kendra cries. She says that it meant a lot to her that her team could put their differences aside and tell her that they would work for her and support her. It’s especially meaningful because they didn’t have to. Danny and Michael pick Kendra up, singing, “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” as Erin claps. The four say their goodbyes as Kendra gets in the limo. She says that the whole experience was great.

Kendra returns to the suite and gushes to Tana about her team. They talk about Tana’s problems with her team that morning, and Tana points out to Kendra that she’s probably never seen her act like that. Tana thinks that Kendra’s team was stronger and really wanted her to win. She asks Kendra if there were any fights, and Kendra says there weren’t. You can practically see Tana thinking, “Well… that’s not good.”

The next day, Tana and Kendra pack to leave the suite. Kendra says that it’s been a long 16 weeks, and there were times when she wasn’t sure she wanted this, but she knows that she does. She thinks that she deserves to be the Apprentice because she finished school, proving that she finishes what she starts. She finished all 16 tasks as well.

Final boardroom! Trump asks Tana how she led her team. Tana thinks she did well, considering who her team was. Carolyn brings up the fact that she kept complaining about them. Tana says that her team embarrassed her - for example, Brian swore in front of other people. Carolyn says that Tana probably didn’t put the sponsors at ease by telling them that she had no confidence in her team. Good point. Tana says she didn’t, but Carolyn says that it was apparent. Tana tells her that the sponsors were embarrassed for the team, and she had to assure them that things would get done. Carolyn still thinks that she made the sponsors nervous.

Trump asks Tana about Kristen. Tana says that she got the job done, but she was very confrontational. Yeah, no kidding. Trump asks if she was great, and Tana says she wasn’t. Trump tells Tana that Kristen thought she was great. Tana loses (more) points with me for saying that Kristen should. Trump adds that Brian was brittle. Tana says that Brian is basically good for physical work. Carolyn points out that he’s very successful, but Tana says that he’s the kind of person you can only give one job to, since he’ll give so much time and thought to it. Trump asks about the brochure, which leads to that discussion. He mentions that Governor Pataki was concerned because there was no American flag - he picked up on the problem immediately.

Interestingly, Trump asks who Tana would have rather had watching her, Carolyn or George. Tana picks Carolyn (telling George she means no offense), because she can relate to her better as a wife and mother. I highly doubt that Carolyn takes Tana’s marital status into account when judging her on tasks. Trump points out that Carolyn has been hard on Tana, and he doesn’t think George would have been as hard on her. Trump asks Tana why he should pick her over Kendra. Tana says that she’s successful, and being the Apprentice would make her feel like she’s arrived. Wow, what an original answer.

Trump asks Kendra why she deserves to be the Apprentice. Kendra’s response isn’t much more creative - she says, “I am the Apprentice,” but Trump just hasn’t had time to get to know her on a personal level yet. Trump asks about Kendra’s team and she says that they were excellent, and are great people. They didn’t have any problems, just a few frustrations that they managed to get through.

Trump asks who the best person was and Kendra names Erin. She notes that when Erin was fired, the two of them weren’t really speaking, since Kendra had traded Erin to Net Worth. However, they worked well together and Erin was the easiest to manage. Trump wants to know if Erin cried at the end, and Kendra says she did. Trump is surprised, since he didn’t think she would. Kendra replies that she didn’t think she herself would cry, either.

Trump asks about Michael next, noting that he and Kendra had problems in the past. Kendra says that she put him in charge of the party because she thought he would work hard on something he enjoyed. Good call. She wasn’t that impressed with him, but thinks he did a great job when he didn’t have to. Trump asks about Danny, who Kendra calls a loose cannon. She says that he complicates simple things. In the end, he was good, but before that, not so much. Trump asks if Kendra liked her team, and Kendra says she did. Trump notes that he gave Kendra a team of people she didn’t like, and they did a great job. Take note of that, Tana. Kendra mentions again that they had no problems and Trump tells her that her team loved her.

Trump asks about Kendra’s sponsors, and she says she tried to make them happy, despite Danny’s meddling. This leads to the discussion about Danny’s ill-fated meeting and the fact that Kendra wasn’t there. She says that she just didn’t realize what he was doing and didn’t expect him to do what he did. Trump asks her if she would rather have Carolyn or George watching her. Kendra picks Carolyn, since Carolyn would be tougher on her and force her to be a better person.

The group discusses education for the millionth time this season. Tana says that she’s tough and not needy. Kendra says she’s tough, too. Tana says that she handled everything well on the NYC2012 task. Kendra says that she wants this more and has a better record. Trump congratulates both women, then kicks them out. He talks to Carolyn and George, who say that it’s a tough choice. Let me help you guys out - Kendra’s only problem was letting Danny talk. Does that put things into perspective? Kristen, Brian, Chris, Danny, Michael, and Erin arrive to help Trump make his decision.

Next week: Kendra swears at George, kicks Carolyn, chews tobacco in front of Trump, burns down Radio City Music Hall, and gets the job anyway.
