Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno 2, Episode 15 - You Spin Me Right Round

by Phil Kural -- 06/15/2005
Surprise! There won't be two challenges before the next Inferno. Tonight, there will be a girl nominated into the Inferno, one challenge, then the Inferno. Who will be going on? Who is going home? Will Tonya (right) ever stop thinking that everyone is against her? Don't count on it!

Previously, Tonya was still being harassed by the other girls on her team, but decided to stand up for herself. If acting like a psychotic bitch is standing up for yourself, she sure has done that! At the "Crab Grab" challenge, it was a foot race between Shavonda and Veronica for the win, but the Good Guys pulled it off and won another $10,000, meaning that both teams now have $70,000. At the final men's Inferno, Landon eliminated Dan, and now the Good Guys are ready to pull ahead.

We begin this week as we do every week. Tonya is bothered by Rachel, Veronica and Tina, and wants to go to bed. The other girls say that Tonya just wants the lights off so that she can masturbate, and then Veronica imitates noises she heard coming from Tonya's bead a few nights before. This is just wonderful. Rachel says it looks like they are ganging up on Tonya, but Tonya makes herself the outcast. I'm starting to actually agree with Rachel, which is terrifying me. Now, for some reason, Tonya is scared that the girls are taking naked pictures of her while she sleeps. I need an Advil. She gets up and goes into another room to sleep, and Veronica, always the instigator, follows. They get in a little spat, and Tonya tells the camera she doesn't need the other girls, and doesn't care if she fits in. PLEASE give me an Advil!

A text message arrives from Dave and tells the teams to meet at the Marina for their next challenge in the morning, wearing their team colors and swimsuits. Shavonda tells the camera that all they have to do is win this mission to be in the lead, which would be good for morale since they have been behind the whole time.

The teams arrive at the challenge, and Dave tells them it's called "Heart Rate Bungee." Each person will be paired up with another person from their team, and will be raised up in the air, standing on a platform. Once their heart rate gets below 100 beats per minute, they will be dropped off the platform, bungee style. The team that has the lowest average time to drop will win. The person from each team with the lowest heart rate will win the Aztec Lifeshield (AL). Also, two people from the opposing team will get to go up with the jumpers, to try and psych them out. Teams now have 30 minutes to choose a player from the opposing team to put into the Inferno. This will be the last Inferno for the women.

At the Good Guys meeting, Jamie and Shavonda both want to go up against Tonya. They think she is unstable and cracks too easily. Shavonda doesn't want to be the one that slows the team down in the final mission, and hopes the Bad Asses pick her instead of Jamie.

The Bad Asses are deliberating, and Veronica says she wants Shavonda, since she is more confident against her. The guys want to pick Jamie, since she is stronger. Tina tells them no, and that they don't have to worry, since they are no longer at risk, then goes on to tell them they have no voice in this. Good for you, Tina! I love how the guys are all about sending in the strong girls, but always try to weasel out when it's their turn. I'm glad someone said something.

Tonya says that she wants Jamie, since she's stronger. Rachel hopes that the Good Guys pick Tonya, since they all want to see her go. Of course, as they do at every deliberation, the Bad Asses start to argue. Abe and Tina go at it, but Abe finally agrees that they should pick Shavonda to keep the girls happy. Veronica knows that the guys are only doing this because they don't want the girls to screw them during the final challenge.

Dave gathers up the teams and Bad Asses say they are nominating Shavonda. The Good Guys nominate Tonya, and Mike says it's a win-win situation. If Shavonda wins, they will be happy to have her. If she loses, then the Bad Asses are stuck with Tonya.

Darrell and Landon are the first to bungee, while Abram and Tonya scream at them. Darrell says that their yelling at him is actually helping him. They drop at 1 minute, 46 seconds. Abe and Rachel are first for the Bad Asses, and drop at 2 minutes, 27 seconds. Shavonda and Mike drop at 1 minute, 51 seconds, while Tina and Derrick manage to drop at 33 seconds. Unbelievably, Jamie and Landon counter that by dropping in 2 seconds. They weren't nervous at all! Veronica and Abram drop in a little over a minute, and Tonya and CT are the only two left. Shavonda and Jamie decide to go up for the Good Guys so that they can mess with Tonya.

The clock begins and Tonya can't get her heart rate to go down. They only get 15 minutes to go, and then they get disqualified, which is the worst time, plus ten minutes. It's now 13 minutes in, and Jamie and Shavonda are screaming at Tonya. Turns out Tonya can't do it, and time is up. They still drop them anyway, which is pretty funny since I don't think they expected it. Honestly though, I'd have some problems doing it, but I think I could get calm in 15 minutes!

Time to award the check. The Bad Asses had an average time of four minutes and eight seconds. The Good Guys had an average of one minute, 30 seconds, so for the first time this whole season, the Good Guys are leading with $80,000 and the Bad Asses have $70,000 going into the final mission. Landon and CT won the AL, so it looks like it's going to be Tonya versus Shavonda. One of them is going home.

Time for the Inferno. For the Bad Asses, it's Tonya. For the Good Guys, we have Shavonda. Dave tells them that this Inferno is called "Spinner." Each girl will be strapped to a giant wheel, which will be randomly spun faster and slower. They must hold their team flag, and whoever drops it first, or says they give up, will be the loser. Pretty simple. Landon says that he doesn't want to lose Shavonda, and both girls are confident they will be spinning all night.

Dave starts the spinning and Shavonda wants to sing to Tonya. Veronica openly tells the camera she wants Shavonda to win. Eleven minutes in and Shavonda is jerking around and says her legs don't feel good, and feel like they are slipping out. At fifteen minutes, Shavonda says that it's really hurting her back, and quits. Veronica is very disappointed as Tonya has the biggest smile on her face. She tells the camera she has a commitment to be there, and will bite her tongue at rubbing her win in everyone's faces and will just go into the final challenge tomorrow.

The Good Guys say goodbye to Shavonda, and she tells the camera that she will guarantee her team will win tomorrow, since they don't have so many people on their team and they know how to work together. Tonya doesn't care if her team likes her or not, since it's tough sh*t on them. I guess I agree.

Next week is the final challenge, which is worth $150,000. I see some rowing, biking and running. Hmm, it will be interesting to see who slows their teams down. I'm willing to bed on the Bad Asses, it's Tonya, Derrick, Tina and Veronica. For the Good Guys, probably Darrell and possibly Jamie. I'm going to predict the Good Guys win though, simply because Good is supposed to triumph. That's just the way stories go! I guess we'll find out next week.
