Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno 2, Episode 16 - The Weight of the World On Your Shoulders

by Phil Kural -- 06/22/2005
It’s time for the final mission. There are only four people left on the Good Guys team, and seven on the Bad Asses. Who will prevail? Which team will win the $150,000? More importantly, will there be any more fights? It’s time for the finale!

As this season of the challenge began, the Bad Asses were able to pull ahead, chilling the morale of the Good Guys. However, over time, the Good Guys found a formula for success and started a comeback. At the last regular challenge, Heart Rate Bungee, the Good guys managed to keep their cool and pull ahead for the first time. Emotions ran high at the final Inferno, where Tonya was able to eliminate Shavonda and secure herself a spot in the final mission. Now it's time for the final challenge, worth $150,000. Some of these kids are going to have a pretty nice bank account after this episode is over!

No playing around this week. The teams get a text message right away, and it tells them to be ready for the final mission tomorrow. Just like EVERY CLUE THIS SEASON, it tells them to wear their team colors, swimsuits, and sneakers. Please, all I ask that they do for next season is spice up the clues a little bit!

Derrick and CT talk about the money. CT says they were very close to winning last time, but they didn't work as a team. Derrick insists that the Bad Asses have never really proven they were a good team, but CT thinks they have more heart. Derrick adds that they are only as strong as their weakest player, and when CT asks who that is, Derrick says Veronica. Things that make you go "Hmm..."

In the morning, Mike tells the camera that their team is smaller, and that makes him nervous. Everyone is pretty psyched and focused, and Tina says she is fired up, since this is the first final she's ever been in. That shocks me, since she's been on like five challenges. Everyone arrives at the final mission site, and Dave is there to greet them. He says that the final mission is called "Montezuma's Revenge." The best part about this is that someone, I'm not sure who, says "I've had that all month!" Oh those kids.

As state earlier, this challenge is worth $150,000. They will be competing in a triathlon. There will be three stages. The first will be an open paddle to the shore, followed by a bike race, and then a foot race to the door of the Inferno. To open the door, they will have to solve a riddle, and the first team to get into the Inferno pit wins the whole shebang. Rachel says they are feeling good and positive. There is no room for argument and for once, they have to try to just get along.

The teams are taken out into the water on a boat. Each player gets three golden keys, which they will have to use to unlock the tools they need at each station. Dave releases the teams, and into the water they go. Everyone swims to their boats, where they have a two kilometer paddle to the shore. Everyone begins to unlock their oars, and the Good Guys are off first. Jamie says that she wants to keep up with the guys, but its hard being the only girl. However, she's going to suck it up. She's so cute! CT says that his team is falling apart already, as they have issues unlocking the ores, and Abe is confusing people with his shouting. Tina says they can't get their rowing together and in sync, and the Good Guys already have a lead.

Mike tells the camera he hopes they can keep this lead. Over in the Bad Asses raft, CT starts creaming at Tonya to "Dig it out," which she must mistake as "Fall in the water," since that's what she does. Derrick tries to help her back in, and he falls in too. This is just too much. Once they get back in the boat, Tonya says that she's allowing voices to get into her head again. This girl honestly needs help.

The Good Guys get to the bike sand start unlocking. They now have to complete a 10 kilometer bike ride. The Bad Asses get to the shore, and Dave says that at this point, the Good Guys have a four minute lead. Tina feels that since the Good Guys are stupid, they have a chance to catch up since they will solve the riddle quicker. Mike says that the lead they have means nothing if they can't do the riddle. Darrell has issues with his bike and the chain pops. Mike comments that the bikes they are riding are really crappy. Darrell fixes it, and they keep on going.

Tonya is the slowest on the Bad Asses, and Jamie says that she's keeping up with the guys, but her legs are starting to hurt. The Good Guys get to a chest and unlock it, to find some golden Nike's waiting for them. Time for a five kilometer run! The Bad asses are now behind by three minutes, as they get to their chest and start running as well. Darrell says the Good Guys are focused and won't stop. Tonya, on the other hand, is ready to stop. She says she can't do the running, wants to pass out and quit right now. Everyone tries to push her, as the Good Guys just keep on going.
