The Real Gilligan’s Island 2, Episode 8: It’s On Like a Chicken Boneby William Ingram -- 07/05/2005
View Printable version of this article Oh take me in your arms Rescue me.” -- “Rescue Me,” Fontella Bass, 1960s This is the eighth and final hour of our coverage of the second season of The Real Gilligan’s Island. You can read about episode seven in my review . We start the show right where we left off. Randi has just been voted off, much to the relief of everyone else. Erika points to the fact that she was oblivious to how everyone else saw her. Soon, the talk turns to hot women. Shawn is asked to rate Erika and says that she is an “8”. He is asked to rate Angie and gives her a “9½.” Unfortunately, Erika overhears this and walks up. Tiy-e, not really liking it when his boy talks about hot women, tattles on Shawn and tells Erika that Shawn doesn’t think she’s as hot as Angie. Shawn tries to cover himself by saying that he is a really tough grader and that “8” is really good. I can’t help but notice that he gave Randi a “6” and says that he can’t stand her. Erika and Charlie wander off, leaving Shawn and Tiy-e alone. Shawn says that he thinks it’s much more peaceful now with “just the two of us.” Tiy-e adds, “I like the way you say that.” The camera pans up to the moon hanging in the sky, leaving the two boys alone to continue that thought without cameras around. The next morning arrives and we find Tiy-e and Shawn together in the Professor’s bed. Shawn lazily brushes Tiy-e leg and tells him to wake up and not spend the whole day lounging around. Shawn later tells us that Tiy-e has a pain in his side and he’s not feeling very well. We then see Shawn ask if Tiy-e could maybe use a back rub or anything. Tiy-e just falls back into bed without comment. Shawn starts browsing around in the girls’ hut and finds all of Erika’s jewelry. Being bored, he starts trying it all on. Erika catches him and he admits that when he sees nice jewelry, he just likes to try it on. Erika rolls her eyes and tries to keep a bit of a straight face. Man, these producers are really trying to insinuate things here, aren’t they? Soon enough, the radio crackles to life and invites them to the beach for their final safety competition. This they then do, although Tiy-e is dragging behind noticeably. Scott welcomes them and explains the game. They will all start off standing on a post. Every five minutes, they must pick up a nearby board and bridge the gap to the next post and walk across. Every five minutes they must move forward. If a player falls off, they are out. Last man standing wins. Scott waves his arm and they’re off! Well, okay, they are not really off as much as they are just standing there, trying not to fall off. They all seem to be doing fine and soon, five minutes is up. They each reach for their bridge. Erika has some trouble, but they all make it to the second level. Another five minutes is up and they all grab their bridge again. Professor Tiy-e and Erika don’t get the bridge in place within the allotted time and are disqualified. The Skipper and Gilligan fight it out for another five minutes. Charlie’s not looking too good, however. Scott tells them to build their bridge to the final post. Charlie drops the bridge, holds onto the rope and is tugged into the water. Gilligan Shawn wins the final safety competition. He will be going to the final three. Shawn tells us that he is relieved because now he can be a complete ass to everyone from now on and it doesn’t matter at all. And, he doesn’t waste his time. He tells Tiy-e that he should be kissing his ass right about now. Professor Tiy-e raises an eyebrow, but says he’s not gonna treat Shawn any different than before. Later, Shawn hits up Erika. He tells her that he wants to vote off Charlie. Erika responds by calling out Charlie to join the discussion. She basically gives him the goodbye speech. She says that you only get about two minutes in voodoo village to say goodbye and she wants to do it right, ahead of time. She says that he is amazing and that she is happy for the time they spent together. She would hate to vote against him. But, Erika really should vote out Charlie. First off, she has been in an alliance with him, and she always screws over her alliance mates. Second, he really is the strongest competitor and there is no penalty for getting rid of him. That is in contrast to a game like Survivor where you still need to be nice to people right up to the end. And Shawn is still being obnoxious. He sings a corrupted version of the theme song. Erika thinks it’s a cute song, but it really is awful. Soon enough how, it’s time to walk the walk. They head off to voodoo village. Scott welcomes them for the final time and invites them to begin voting. This they then do. Scott collects the box for the last time. He pulls the dolls out for the last time. The first is a Professor. The second is Skipper. The third is the Skipper again. The last vote is the Professor. We have a tie for the first time. Scott explains the tiebreaker. The person who has had the most previous votes cast against him will be banished. Well, of course, that’s the Professor, since the Skipper hasn’t had many votes against him (he’s had the immunity ring most of the time). And, of course, it would have been nice to know that tiebreaker rule ahead of time. Then we would have known that Erika and Charlie had a lock down on Tiy-e all along. Scott tells us that the Skipper has had two votes against him and that Tiy-e has had five. That means the Professor is banished to the other side of the island. He steps forward and addresses the group. He says that he has had fun and is glad he met them all. He tosses his doll into the fire, gives Shawn an extra long hug, and walks off to the other side of the island. Shawn and Tiy-e both say that the hardest part will be missing the other. We get to see a short homo-erotic montage of all the fun they’ve had together. Scott asks Gilligan for the life preserver back, but he is lost in his thoughts and Scott has to ask a second time. Scott retires the ring. 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
