Big Brother 6's Janelle Pierzina's Arrest Record Shows Up on The Smoking Gun

by Mike DeGeorge -- 07/23/2005
It was bound to happen - someone from Big Brother 6 would have an arrest record and The Smoking Gun would find it. Sure enough, Janelle's record has shown up, which is more than she ever did! Find out what happened, when, and where, inside!

Big Brother 6 contestant Janelle Pierzina likes to wear a t-shirt that says, “Dude, where’s my couture?” After weeks of wondering, it now becomes obvious that “couture” must mean “rap sheet.”

Once again, The Smoking Gun have outdone themselves. They’ve uncovered quite the history on this season’s fabulous fashionplate.

In December of 2001, Janelle was charged with stealing merchandise from Macy’s in Los Angeles, California. All those outfits don’t come cheap, after all. A Superior Court judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest when she didn’t show up for her initial court appearance! Two more bench warrants were subsequently issued, eventually raising the warrant’s bond to $30,000.

But wait! There’s more!

One would think appearing on a reality show based in the same city where you have a 42-month old arrest warrant would be problematic. Not so, as just two weeks before the debut of Big Brother 6 on national television – where LAPD would probably have a good clue as to where to find Janelle – she pleaded to petty theft, was fined $982, and was ordered to stay at least 100 yards from the retailer. Being barred from going near Macy’s is an appropriate punishment for ignoring three judges’ rulings over the course of three and a half years, isn’t it?

But wait! There’s more!

In August 2000, Janelle was arrested to DWI in Duluth, Minnesota (where the mug shot at the top of the article was taken). A bench warrant was issued after she did not appear for her arraignment (this is not a recording). She eventually managed to show up for court in June 2002 (16 months after the bench warrant – maybe she was just being fashionably late), where she pleaded to the misdemeanor count. She was given a 60-day suspended sentence, a year’s probation, fined $1000, and ordered to complete an alcohol education program.

But wait! There’s more!

A year later, the judge held a violation of probation hearing because Janelle failed to complete to alcohol education program. She (sing along, you know the words!) failed to show up for the hearing, and a bench warrant was issued. After another year passed, Janelle finally appeared for a hearing, where Judge Gerald Maher extended her probation for six months and again ordered her to complete the program.

For those wondering, yes, apparently Janelle has completed the program and before the start of Big Brother 6, worked as a “VIP Cocktail Waitress” in Miami Beach. Maybe she learned in the alcohol program that drunk guys spend a lot of money? Or maybe it’s a “Sam Malone in Cheers” situation. Although, to be fair, we have not seen her abuse alcohol on the show, so maybe she actually did learn something.

However, it is surprising that, given her history of not showing up for hearings, that she got off so lightly in the Los Angeles court. Or perhaps she chose the perfect time to appear, when someone else, like Arnold Shapiro, had a vested interest in her being at the premiere of Big Brother 6. Either way, once again we see that Janelle can be smart – when she wants to be.

A run-in with the law or a youthful indiscretion is one thing. Even two arrests of this nature can be excused. But her disregard for the consequences of her crimes and unwillingness to make restitution shows a clear pattern of self-righteousness, self-absorption, disregard for others, and, flat-out, selfishness. Coincidentally, these are the exact same qualities we’ve seen out of Janelle on Big Brother 6. Sometimes it’s not all editing!
