America’s Next Top Model 5, Episode 9: Too Much of Someone That’s “Too Much”by Phil Kural -- 11/18/2005
View Printable version of this article Last week, Kim won a role on an episode of Veronica Mars, but Lisa was eager to grab back the spotlight because people weren’t looking at her for two seconds. Jayla and MY Nicole ended up in the bottom two because of their lackluster photos, but were given a reprieve when they found out there was a twist! All the girls were going to London, and MY Nicole and Jayla were given another day to look fierce! Six girls are left, but someone is going home this week. The girls arrive back from that night’s “almost elimination.” Jayla says that being in the bottom two is harder than it looks, and she said that if she were almost going home, she wouldn’t cry. She cried. Nicole says that it was a bad feeling to hear “pack your bags” and to go from that to “you’re going to London” was just insane, and a big shock. You can tell she is still upset a little. Lisa is just happy that she is going to London. She earned this and is ready to bring everything to the table now. Tyra mail tells the girls to be ready to meet a top model who has based her career on self-awareness and being herself. There is a knock on the door and in comes supermodel Jenny Shimizu, who Lisa knows right away, as does Jayla, from her Calvin Klein ads. Jenny says that she has done it all and was fortunate to get into modeling because Calvin Klein saw her on her moped. She says she’s special because she’s a minority, 5’7” with tattoos, and she is gay. Kim says that’s important for her to see and asks Jenny some questions about being feminine. Jenny tells her that you just have to look at it like you are modeling art. Kim now has new hope and believes she can do well. Jenny talks a little more with the girls and heads out. Later that night, the girls climb in the hot tub and Kim starts talking trash on Lisa. Bre tells the camera that Kim likes to talk about everyone the second they walk away, and she hopes that there is no drama brought with them to London. The girls get Tyra mail that says they will meet a ghost of their past the next day. They arrive at a studio and sit down. In comes Kevin Frazier, who works for Entertainment Tonight. He covers the world of celebrities and tells the girls that they will be followed all the time and it’s very hard. He shows them some candid pictures of Tyra when she wasn’t looking, and then proceeds to show the other girls the same. Bre looks pissed, while there is a picture of Kim imitating Tyra. Lisa and MY Nicole are also shown stuffing their face. Jayla and Lisa both remark that they needed this talk because they tend to be uninhibited, while Lisa says she is always in trouble. Kevin tells the girls to be on the lookout in the future. Now the girls mill around the house with not much to do, so Kim and MY Nicole go into the confessional and talk smack. Kim remarks that Nik is sane but very boring. I agree, at times. Lisa is an alcoholic and insane. I agree. Jayla isn’t that great looking (which I don’t agree with), tells jokes badly (which I agree with), and isn’t sane either. I’m not quite sure about that. Kim then says to the camera that in this house, you need a support group. She lost Kyle last week, then Coryn the week before, and Sarah as well. All she has left is Nicole, and she’d be devastated if she were eliminated, too. Kim then plays a really slow song for MY Nicole, saying that if she was eliminated at the last panel, she would have felt that way, yet had Jayla been eliminated she would have played another song, which she demonstrates as fun and fast! I’m sorry, but I love Kim! Bre says that she thinks Kim is negative on everyone and she feels that she is walking on eggshells when she is around her. Bre then talks outside with Jayla and they both agree that Kim is talking about everyone in the house. Yeah, because Jayla has so much room to talk. Nik is now on the phone and Kim takes it from her and asks her friend why Nik is so quiet. Nik basically says that this is the last straw for her. We get some shots of the girls doing more packing, and Lisa says she is antsy and ready to go. However, Tyra mail arrives and says they must take one more photo before they go. Nicole says she isn’t sad to leave the apartment for a while since everyone is going crazy. We get a montage of everyone being nuts, but it’s basically Lisa doing crazy sh*t. The girls arrive at a photo shop and find out they are getting their passport photos. I can just smell challenge. Everyone gets their photo taken, and you can tell they are trying their best and know it’s a test. True enough, the photographer confesses that he’s a celebrity photographer and this was a test. He says that you must look your best even in a passport photo, and then announces that Bre won the challenge. She will receive a prize when the girls arrive in London, and she chooses Nik to join her. She also receives a Sprint phone that has almost anything you can speak of on it. Also, the phone has a short message from a loved one for each of the girls, which lifts all their spirits. Jayla is just happy to hear from her boyfriend, who she hasn’t been able to get a hold of for two weeks now. In the limo on the way to the airport, Kim realizes that Bre and Nik are whispering about her. Kim goes over and Bre says that at that point it was “on.” Bre then goes on to tell Kim about the way she talks about people, and Nik helps her. Kim tries to defend herself, but Bre thinks she is lying and tells Kim that she has “ugly character.” Okay, this is getting a bit out of hand. Lisa says that she was in the hot seat at the beginning, so now it’s Kim’s turn. Jayla jumps in the conversation, saying that Kim hurt her feelings. Yeah, like Jayla never said anything bad about anyone. Give me a freaking break. Lay off Kim. Jayla and Kim are now almost bawling their eyes out, while MY Nicole tries to add that all the girls have said stuff, and admits that she too has said things about the other girls and it’s not fair for Kim to take all the blame. Bre doesn’t want to hear this, though, and tells her to stay out of it. Nik doesn’t believe Kim because she is crying and thinks Kim is more upset that she got caught. Bre does some consoling and Kim now thinks it has been dealt with, while Bre still doesn’t think Kim’s tears are real. She says she intends on keeping her enemies close, and even though she knows Kim is trying to play her, she’s going to win this thing. Give me a break, Bre – just when I was starting to like you. 1 2 3 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
