The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, Episode 11: MVPs and LVPs, Corner Office and Mailroom Assignments

by Sandy McFarland -- 12/13/2005
The Apprentice: Martha Stewart is almost over, but Sandy has a few more assignments to hand out. Which of the three members of Primarius will she send to the corner office? And will Ryan (right) be rewarded with beer?

In this week’s task, the teams had to create an in-flight video for Song Airlines. Martha described this airline as innovative and high class, with low fares. The teams’ videos would be shown to a planeload of Song frequent fliers who would be filling out surveys on the videos. The video deemed most effective in promoting the $99 flight from New York to Los Angeles would win the task.

Matchstick:

This will be short and sweet. As Martha said goodbye to the entire Matchstick team, though there were only two left, they have received their just reward. Ryan deserved his outing due to the way he handled this task from beginning until end. He wanted to be a baseball player and nothing was going to change his mind. Oh, yeah - he also wanted to get drunk during the task. As for Marcela, she wasn’t a leader; she was a very nice worker bee. She had said it herself - she’s a mom and a cook. Marcela had no control over project manager Ryan and his hare-brained video, but hey, as Bethenny says… it is what it is! Yep, it was what it was!

Primarius:

Martha told us to serve a client best you had to “investigate, research, then develop,” which was exactly what this team, with Bethenny as project manager, did. Bethenny’s strategy to win this task was to find the hook and the message. Then she felt everything else would fall into place. The team immediately sought out their target audience. They discussed with the Song executives everything from food to clothing to martini glasses. The Song executives were impressed that this team was so knowledgeable about their airline.

Bethenny liked the tagline, “High style, low fare, we’re a breath of fresh air!” Jim continued to drive Dawna nuts by commenting on women’s calves while sketching out his ideas. Jim directed the filming which, in turn, drove Bethenny nuts. Charles was impressed by the way this team was utilizing their resources. All and all, the planeload of people viewing this video gave it high marks, scoring a solid win for Primarius.

Primarius Corner Office:

As Primarius’ video “knocked out” the Song executives, who are going to use their video as real in-flight spot, I am going to send all three of them to this coveted place. I will also send along a Scrabble game with instructions on how to play. While Dawna practices her words, Bethenny can fill up on her favorite organic health food delights and Jim can pound down a few martinis. The ladies can pretend he’s not there. Congratulations, Bethenny, Dawna, and Jim! I propose a toast to the final three! It’s a good thing.

The Mailroom is closed.
