Project Runway 2, Episode 4: Lederhosen and Lace

Back at the Atlas apartment, Nick is excited that he won the Barbie challenge - “get the parade out!” Santino, snug in his bed, yells, “I lost the f**king challenge because of you!” Santino tells us that he helped Nick a little bit, and he might think twice before helping someone again. He’s upset that he didn’t win. “Second place is not f**kin’ good enough!” Diana can’t wait to receive their next challenge. She says it is like they’re making a book or something. Hey, whatever floats your boat, I guess!

At Parsons, Heidi steps onto the runway and informs the contestants that the next challenge is something she knows a lot about – lingerie. First, she wants to bring out the winner and loser’s models. She reminds them that the model paired with the winner of Project Runway will get a fashion spread in Elle magazine. Because Nick’s model was Tarah, and Allison was with the eliminated Raymundo, Nick can choose between the two. If he prefers a different model, Heidi will gather the others. Nick thinks Allison’s walk is fierce, but says Tarah has been his muse. He will stick with Tarah. With cheek kisses, Heidi says her goodbye to Allison.

Heidi turns to the designers to explain their new challenge. Each of the designers will have 30 minutes to develop a presentation featuring three looks for a lingerie line. They will each pitch her their ideas, and then she will choose four of them to be team leaders. The leaders will pick from the remaining designers to make up four teams of three. Each team will work together to execute their leader’s vision. Heidi explains that this challenge is all about executing a vision, leadership, and teamwork. Furthermore, when it’s time for them to be judged on the runway, one of them could go, or an entire team could be out. Their sketching time starts now.

The designers take pen in hand and start putting their ideas to paper. Nick reminds us that Heidi knows quit a lot about lingerie, as she has been that kind of model “with that hot body of hers!” Once again, I am smiling at Nick. Daniel Franco sketches an intricate face on his design - am I seeing Heidi? He intends to present an impression! After 30 minutes Tim tells the designers to close their sketchbooks. It’s time for them to sell their ideas.

In the lounge, Daniel V. sits down with Heidi and explains his vision. He likes the idea of an ex-girlfriend seeking revenge. Superheroes influence Lupe. She wants to design panties that say, “Pow!” (My daughter had Batman underwear that said that when she was six!) Andrae shares that his ideas have a “tie me down” theme, as Chloe shares her vision of a slip dress you could wear to bed, or with jeans. Santino’s thoughts have Heidi in mind. The butt of his panty design would say, “Auf Wiedersehen!” Zulema explains how her nightie would be very short, which earns them both a chuckle. Kara shares her Boudoir Babes vision, while Nick’s sketches are entitled “Asiana Nights.” Marla’s idea is called “Sweetie Pie,” Emmett shares his drawings of “Heidi’s Hollywood Honeymoon,” and Diana’s collection is entitled “Goddess.”

Looking deeply into Heidi’s eyes, Daniel Franco shares that he wants to create lingerie that is designed for lovemaking. Heidi’s face visibly brightens. Yes, he was thinking about Heidi when his vision was conceived and he doesn’t want to make anything trashy. Heidi’s eyes light up and she wrinkles her nose at him! Bedroom music starts playing in the background as Daniel and Heidi hold an adoring gaze. He murmurs that he wants to show her something beautiful. Heidi’s face is aglow! She turns to the camera, still wearing her all-a-twitter look, which ends the segment. Damn, that was cute! Bravo!

Heidi greets the designers in the workroom and chooses Daniel V. as the first team leader with his “Revenge” collection. She feels his vision will translate well on the runway. “Lovemaking” will be lead by Daniel F. She found his ideas to be sexy and beautiful. Diana is the third team leader. Heidi thinks her “Goddess” idea is powerful and flirty. The final team leader selected is Santino. She really liked his “Heidi’s Homeland”! Santino tells us that he is a great communicator; he’s focused and knows where he’s going and what he’s trying to achieve. With a wave, Heidi departs as she promises to see them on the runway.

Tim congratulates the four team leaders. He explains that they will pick their teams in the order that he pulls their names from his magic bag. Daniel V. picks Andrae, Daniel F. selects Chloe, Santino wants Nick, and Diana takes Lupe. Daniel V goes again, choosing Zulema, Daniel F. wants Kara, and Santino takes Emmett. Marla is the last pick and ends up with Diana. Zulema explains that neither Emmett nor Marla can pattern-make or sew, which is why they were chosen last.

The teams gather together to go over their leaders’ vision. Emmett tells us that Santino is a very capable designer, but he thinks he’s very “hands-on.” Emmett will be curious to see if Santino can delegate. Santino thinks Diana’s team is “f**kin’ lame,” speculating, “They haven’t had sex in their lives!” Emmett answers back with, “Well, neither have you!” (Good for you Emmett! Share your thoughts!) Chloe reminds Daniel F. to keep it simple. She thinks he’s overly ambitious. She asks a question, but he answers the wrong question. He isn’t listening to her. Wow, I think he’s related to my husband! Tim explains that the designers have until midnight to complete their designs. They will get $200, and 30 minutes to shop for fabric. “Let’s go shopping!”
