Last Comic Standing 4 Kicks Off with Open Callsby Dale Sherman -- 02/08/2006
View Printable version of this article In previous years, Last Comic Standing has held auditions in comedy clubs around the U.S. The fourth season of the series is no exception, and RealityNewsOnline now has the updated information pertaining to where NBC's Open Calls will be held. Holding much to years in the past, the auditions will start out in California and then loop through the country up until finishing up in Florida. The only thing really different this time around is the dates starting in late February and going through part of March (instead of early-to-late January, as in the past). While NBC states that these are open calls, they do not have as much information about these events as they did before Season Two. However we do know that auditions will start at 10:00 am. Keep in mind - as we mentioned before - the open-call auditions are specifically for comedians trying out for the show and are not intended for the general public. So unless you’re planning on participating in the tryouts (and they do stress on the NBC site that it IS an open-call for everyone), the only thing you’ll likely see during the day at the club is a bunch of people standing in the cold and shuffling in line. It also appears that the comics chosen by Bob Read and Ross Mark will once again have a show later that evening in front of an audience, so fans who are interested to see the comics perform should also check with these clubs for more details on that front. Keep in mind that not all of these clubs have LCS listed on their websites yet, but as the dates were just finalized last week they probably have not had time to update their sites. If interested in attending or auditioning, one should routinely check out these websites for more details. The six open calls will be held at the following clubs: February 21: The Hollywood Improv, 8162 Melrose, Los Angeles, CA 90046. This will be the only Open Call in California, bypassing San Francisco this time around. LCS fans may like to know that LCS 2 & 3 comic, Tammy Pescatelli, will be performing at the club on the 14th of February. February 27: The Tempe Improv, 930 University Drive, Tempe, AZ 85281. The link at the Tempe Improv has much more to say about the Open Calls than any of the other clubs’ websites right now. Saying that, it is also ironically a bit outdated – stating that “The Tempe Improve is proud and honored to be the first stop in the search ….” They also request on the site that all applicants apply in person at the box office, with a phone number given for any further questions at the link provided here. For fans, LCS 1 & 3 comic Ralphie May will be at the club for four days prior to the audition. March 2: Capital City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Boulevard, Austin, TX 78758. March 5: Zanies, 1548 N. Wells Street, Chicago, IL 60610. Besides the Hollywood Improv, Zanies in Chicago is the only other club to be retained for Open Calls from Season Two. LCS 2 & 3 comic Todd Glass will be performing there on March 3 & 4. March 7: Caroline's, 1626 Broadway, New York, NY 10009. The site is listed a 7:00 time for the LCS show. March 12: Miami Improv, 3390 Mary #182, Coconut Grove, FL 33133. Ralphie May will be appearing at this club the week after the LCS event. As of this time, there has been no further word on if Jay Mohr will participate in the fourth season of the show he created. It is known that his production company, Giraffe Productions, is not listed in NBC’s latest press release about the program. Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, and Peter Engel are returning as executive producers of the show at least. As for Mr. Mohr, he certainly is keeping busy. Not only did he appear in a series of Diet Pepsi commercials shown during the Super Bowl this year, Jay’s truly amazing series (and that’s no lie – this show had to be one of the best comedy series to come out of the 1990s), ACTION! will be released on February 21. No matter what you think about LCS, definitely check out the DVD collection! Best of all for Jay - he also just announced his engagement to actress Nikki Cox.
