Dancing with the Stars 2, The Finale: There Can Be Only One

When we return, we see Kelly and Alec, season one winners, in the audience. Everyone is on hand for the finale.

The final two couples are now with Samantha. Jerry and Drew both explain that they are excited and nervous.

The first four couples to be eliminated now take to the dance floor:

  • Andrea and Kenny do the cha cha cha to “Hot Stuff.” Kenny still looks goofy, but appears to be having fun.
  • Tatum and Nick perform the waltz to “What the World Needs Now.” They look elegant and they glide as they dance.
  • Giselle and Jonathan do the rumba to “Take My Breath Away.” As I watch them, I can’t help but think that they were eliminated too early from the competition. Sigh. The dog runs away from me as I reach for her.
  • Ashly and P dance the jive to “Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting).” They are wearing their matching baseball caps. He still can’t ballroom dance, but hey… it’s nice to see him again, huh?

After the commercial break, the next three eliminated couples perform:

  • Tia and Maksim perform the tango to “Por Una Cabeza.” There are some hoots coming from the audience. I’m guessing it is because of Maksim’s beauty.
  • Edyta and George perform the quickstep to “Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails.” As always, they entertain us, even with this short performance.
  • Lisa and Louis do the jive to “Jailhouse Rock.” I’m still astounded by Lisa’s development.

Next, the producers feel we need to see clips from each show this season. Basically, we go through the highlights, lowlights, and eliminations.

Tom now asks each eliminated celebrity a question. Kenny makes a funny; Tatum doesn’t answer the question; Giselle makes reference to Jonathan; P jokes about George; Tia says she didn’t know what day of the week it was after she was eliminated; George explains that he was attacked by a 95 year-old woman in the Dominican Republic; Lisa doesn’t get to say anything, but is told she is the most gracious person ever; Stacy says that everyone was wonderful and that she loves George.

Mary J. sings “Be Without You” while clips of the couples are shown on the giant screen behind her. Let me take this opportunity to say how fabulous Mary J. looks and sounds tonight.

Despite the excitement of the evening, Yoko is now asleep in her bed. I better wake her up because I’m sure the final results will be delivered soon. Ha!

It’s now time to dissect Jerry and Drew one last time. Carrie Ann says that Jerry has a lot of passion. Lisa says, “Who is more fabulous than Jerry Rice? You want to eat him up; he’s delicious.” Yum! Drew is called an entertainer. Len says that he has passion in his eyes. Drew says that the sacred trophy is ugly, but he still wants it.

Before a winner is named, we watch more clips of the final two couples. Even though we’ve seen these before, the producers thankfully slip in something new; Jerry thanks Anna for what she has done for him, and Cheryl tears up as she says it has been a pleasure working with Drew.

Finally! It’s now time to reveal the winner. Thanks for hanging in there. The champions are… Drew and Cheryl! They are excited beyond belief, although he seems a bit more reserved than I would have expected.

Samantha now talks to Anna and Jerry. He says he never thought he would make it this far in the competition. He then states that Cheryl and Drew’s win is well deserved. He again thanks Anna for working with him.

Tom now speaks with the winners and asks how it feels. Finally, the Drew we all know and love comes out, and he screams! He then says that he is the luckiest man in the world. Tom hands over the disco ball trophy. Jerry grabs it and tries to run away with it as he threatened to do earlier. The other couples come out to congratulate Cheryl and Drew, and Tom and Samantha thank everyone for making the show possible.

That’s a wrap folks. Although the show is over, feel free to contact me if you have any additional comments or questions about Dancing with the Stars. I’ve enjoyed the many “conversations” I’ve had with RealityNewsOnline readers throughout the duration of the show so let the good times continue! Also, with regard to the program itself, I was pleased that there were more couples competing this season and thought that having a separate results show was effective; however, I didn’t like how long each episode was, especially when there were only a few couples left in the competition. With any luck, ABC will continue to improve upon this already wonderful program. Regardless, Yoko the wonder dog and I will be back next season, and I hope you’ll join us; I’ll be sure to have plenty of goobers on hand for everyone!
