View Printable version of this article Hollywood, February 22. Instant celebrity. First class plane tickets. Stretch limos. The finest hotels. Fans all over the world. That is what you get when you become a contestant on Survivor. But what happens when the season is over and the cameras are focused on a whole new group of contestants? You leave your life as an accountant in Texas and move to a messy one bedroom in Beverly Hills, eat frozen food and work as a personal trainer to make ends meet. The first Asian American contestant on Survivor, Daniel Lue, will show you exactly what happens when Survivor fame fades on March 8th on MTV’s True Life: I’m a Reality TV Star. Daniel, was an early exit on Survivor: The Amazon, voted out third due to his infamous clash with tribe elder Roger Sexton. In the process, his demeanor and physique made him a favorite of many viewers. During True Life, Daniel will take you on a journey of a young, optimistic man desperately trying to become famous. To save money, he pretends to be his own publicist in order to get himself invited to the hottest Hollywood red carpet events. With the help of his mother, they use Survivor to hold a press conference with major Chinese media outlets that dubbed him one of the hottest rising Chinese American stars, and becomes a community favorite. Watch Daniel try to land his first major movie role as Kintaro in Little Hercules in 3-D, starring Judd Nelson, Elliot Gould, and Hulk Hogan. Hulk Hogan and his son Nick will cameo in the episode as they film part of an episode of Hogan Knows Best at the same time. “If you read the press release on Hogan Knows Best, they mention that the Hogan family travels to Hollywood to film a movie together,” Daniel told RealityNewsOnline. “It will be the first look of that movie - Little Hercules in 3D.” Daniel’s quest for his first major role will make up a major part of True Life. In addition, Daniel goes on a date with WWE Diva Search runner-up and Deal or No Deal model Leyla Milani. The documentary illustrates the highs and lows of an ambitious young man’s dire want for fame. So far, no other Survivor contestant has been able to make the transition from reality star to Hollywood star. Will Daniel be able to break the “Survivor Curse”? The March 8th episode of True Life also stars Survivor villain “Jonny Fairplay,” who duped his tribe into believing that his grandmother had died so that he could enjoy a reward, and Tonya from The Real World: Chicago. While the three share an episode, they have separate storylines and do not interact. “In a sense, I have Jonny Fairplay to thank for getting on the show,” chuckles Lue. “Originally, Fairplay was fired and replaced by me, but then the other person’s storyline was deemed too boring and they put Fairplay back on!” Catch MTV’s True Life: I’m a Former Reality TV Star Wednesday, March 8th at 10 PM Eastern on MTV.
