The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet 2, Episode 15 - X-Treme Decisionby Chris Jakobi -- 03/20/2006
View Printable version of this article Previously on The Gauntlet 2: The Rookies won “the Pit,” sending Derrick and Brad into the Gauntlet, where Derrick won his fourth Gauntlet. Randy tells Kina that she’s doing a great job as a leader. Kina says that tomorrow is the last girl’s Gauntlet and that it is “pretty much a death sentence.” Oh, please. Spare me now. She continues bitching about how horrible it would be if she had to go home after all of those times and her boyfriend and blah blah blah. This will be a long episode. Kina figures that she could beat Jillian and Reverse Tug-O-War and she could beat Ibis at Beach Brawl. Randy says that it just matters who she can beat. She says not who she can beat, but who she can beat easy. Aneesa doesn’t want to fight one of her really good friends in the Gauntlet. As long as Beth is gone, we all should be happy. Everyone arrives to the challenge site and T.J. introduces the challenge, called “Blind Trust.” Each person will have to cross blindfolded from one side to another across a narrow plank. They need to also grab their picture and a former team member’s picture as they go across and then put the pictures in their specific place on a board. On the plank there are bumps and other small obstacles that they will have to maneuver around. The first player will not have a blindfold, but everyone else will. When one team member finishes, they will become the eyes for the next person. They will have a ten-minute time limit and if they fall in the water, they get the whole ten minutes. Along with the prize money the female captain (Aneesa or Kina) will win a trip for two to Fiji. The Rookies will have to sit out one male and one female; the female will be exempt from the Gauntlet. Ibis interviews that there is a good chance that she could go the Gauntlet. Kina says that Jodi will sit out because they need her in the final challenge. M.J. is the male chosen to sit out. Jillian feels bad for whichever chick has to leave today and she hopes to God it isn’t her. Julie says that today is their most stressful day. Ibis is the first person for the Rookies to go and she is not blindfolded. She grabs her picture and Cameran’s and places them in for a time of 1:09. Ibis then guides Randy along blindfolded. He gets his and Danny’s picture for a time of 5:09. Jillian is next to go. She is almost too short to reach the pictures. She gets Cara’s and hers in a time of 6:55. She guides Alton next. She isn’t giving direction half the time and he keeps telling her to talk to him. Alton almost falls and the Veterans are getting excited. Jillian finally gets him across and Alton gets his and Adam K.’s picture in at a time of 8:39. Kina is next and she is trembling a lot. She puts her and Jeremy’s picture up in a time of 9:50. Ouch. Landon is next. He grabs M.J.’s and his picture in a time of 3:49. Susie is up next and gets Crazy Jo’s and her picture up in 6:48, the fastest time for a non-blindfolded girl. Jamie is the last one left. He gets his and Jodi’s in a time of 3:25. Susie is banking on one of the Veteran girls falling in. The Veterans go next and Katie explains that she is the first to go but they just got some bad weather. Katie gets hers and Jisela’s in 2:00. She directs David next. David asks where his picture is and Katie says it’s the one behind him. David: “Only Katie.” Despite that, David gets his and Syrus’ picture in 4:54. David gets Derrick to get his and Beth’s picture across in 4:40. Jodi says it seems that they are moving faster. Julie is next and gets her and Adam L.’s picture in 5:07. Mark is next and gets his and Montana’s in 6:08. Mark leads Robin (awww) and she gets her and Brad’s in 4:54. She said hearing Mark’s voice and her trusting him made it a lot easier to get across. Timmy is next. Robin can’t tell the difference between her left and right. He gets his and Ace’s in 4:51. Aneesa is the last to go for the Veterans. She almost falls at one point. She puts her and Ruthie’s picture back at 7:25. She doesn’t know if she’s going to go to the Gauntlet, but she hopes not. T.J. announces that the Veterans’ time was 40:10 and the Rookies were 45:46, so the Veterans win! Julie is amazed that she made it to the end and didn’t get voted off. Aneesa grabs her obtusely large check and her trip to Fiji. If you had to win one prize, that would be the one. Kina has to go to the Gauntlet. M.J. interviews that Kina needs to put Ibis into the Gauntlet, even though she is a friend. In the bathroom, Kina has a meltdown with Jodi. It’s the most overly dramatic freak-out I’ve seen in a while. She doesn’t know who she wants to send in the Gauntlet. Ugh. I still think that Susie is screwed and it didn’t matter how she did. At the Gauntlet meeting Kina says that she is still in self preservation mode. Susie interviews that she isn’t ready to go in the Gauntlet and she doesn’t want Kina to say her name. Kina says that her decision is Jillian. T.J. comes in and spins the wheel and it lands on “Sticky Situation,” one we haven’t seen. At the Gauntlet Kina and Jillian come out. In this game there is an offender and a defender. The offender has to run a tennis ball into a wall with seven holes. The tennis balls cling to a sticky material on the wall. The defender has to try and make sure that the offender doesn’t get the ball onto the wall. Kina decides to start with offence. She gets the first point. They switch places and Jillian gets it in. Kina easily gets the next one. Kina holds Jillian down for too long so Jillian doesn’t get the point. Kina needs one more point. She easily gets it again and wins another Gauntlet. Jillian tells us that she isn’t happy about leaving. M.J. isn’t too happy that Ibis is staying and he’ll be one mad redneck if they lose because of Ibis. Next week: Final men’s mission. (Whoops. I guess I was wrong last week.) Randy thinks his name is in Alton’s mind. They have to take bike apart, put it back together, and race it. That sounds really boring. But I guess we’ll see. Chris Jakobi is not sure if he can take on as many crazies as there are on this show, but he is willing to try. Fan mail, hate mail or advice can be sent to cjakobi9@yahoo.com.
