The Amazing Race 9: The Finish Line, Episode 5by Teeuwynn Woodruff -- 04/05/2006
View Printable version of this article Peggy starts by welcoming us and giving us the phone number to call to ask the Double Ds questions. Al says hi to us as well. He says he’s liking being the co-host. Peggy tells those who don’t know that Al was Jon’s Clown partner in The Amazing Race. Peggy now welcomes Dani & Danielle and asks how they’re doing. Dani & Danielle say they are angry! They lost because they were yielded and they never expected that to happen. Peggy points out that it was the first yield this season. Al says he couldn’t believe it either. Danielle says they were so shocked and that’s why she started crying when they got to the yield. Peggy says it was a mean thing to do and Dani (Danielle? I can never keep those two straight! So, I may use their names interchangeably in this article.) says she never thought they would be perceived as a threat, but maybe they were. Personally, I don’t think it’s mean to use a tool the race gives you. I also think that Lake yielded the Double Ds because he knew they were behind him and he wasn’t sure which other team was behind. Double D goes on to say they were flattered in a way. Al asks, if they knew Ray & Yolanda were behind them, why did they do it? Danielle says that Lake & Michelle told them Ray & Yolanda were still behind, so not to worry. Well, I guess they did know… Now I have no idea why they yielded Team Double D! Ray & Yolanda seem like much better competitors to knock out of the race. Well, I’ve never accused Lake of being a shrewd competitor. Dani says that they were so mad at Michelle when they saw her put their picture up. They wanted to strangle her. Peggy notices the New Yawk accents come out when the girls are upset. Danielle says she hates hearing her accent. Peggy asks if they’re still angry. They say yes, and they still can’t believe it. Why did they waste their yield with Ray & Yolanda behind them? Peggy says that the girls seemed to be getting more and more frustrated. She asks if getting yielded was the last straw. Yes, Dani says. It was a terrible day. After being stupid and letting their taxis leave in Russia, they were determined to play a smart leg. They had a good taxi driver in the beginning and they were careful to tell all their cabs to wait for them in Italy. Then they realized they had to get in a stick shift car. No! Danielle says they were so used to being neck-in-neck with last place and it made their adrenaline rev. They were always hanging on by a thread. When they saw the guys hanging out in the wheelchairs at the airport they said it made them mad because they never got to have fun like that on the race. They were always racing not to be eliminated… hanging on by a thread. Peggy shows us a series of clips showing the girls stressing out and having problems. It ends with shots of them getting yielded by Lake & Michelle and getting really upset. Dani & Danielle laugh hard after seeing the clip. Peggy asks why they’re laughing and Al asks, “You guys weren’t getting frustrated or anything, were you?” Dani says they about ran 20 people over in Italy trying to work that stick shift. Then there was the yield and then getting eliminated. It was horrible! Al points out that the girls kept getting lost throughout the race. Dani says they don’t know how to read maps or drive and so they got lost all the time. Danielle says that before the race they were SO confident. They thought they were going to win. Then they actually started racing! I want to know why they didn’t practice more with a stick shift or maps before the race! Peggy says people want to know if the girls' “alliance” with the Frat Boys (Eric & Jeremy) helped or hindered them. Dani says it COULD have helped them, but they messed it up by getting so behind. They both think it was a good idea and didn't hinder them at all. The boys gave them pep talks! Al asks if, after they watched the race, when they saw Eric & Jeremy flirting with everyone that made them feel different. Both girls say they knew Eric & Jeremy were doing that – they're just flirts. It didn't bother them. They knew they were both big flirts. The girls just wanted to have some fun with them. That's what they expected of the guys even before they talked to them. All they had to do was look at them on the start line to know their personalities. The girls say that they're like the guys. They look prissy, but they're a lot of fun. Peggy asks how this aspect of the race has affected their lives at home. The girls laugh and Al says, “That bad, huh?” The girls say that some people look at them as bimbos and think more happened with the guys on the race than actually did. But they know who they are and that's all that matters. The girls say they're proud of themselves and think they did well. Al points out that luck is really important in the race. Dani agrees and says they never had the luck the Frat Boys had on the race! They had NO luck! Peggy introduces Josh from Massachusetts on the phone. He sounds really young. He says that the Double Ds and their relationship with Eric & Jeremy reminded him of Megan & Heidi and Brian & Greg from the seventh season. He asks how long they were stopped at the yield. He also asks what they're least favorite tasks were. Danielle says they had to wait at the yield for half an hour – they timed it. Danielle says the building was her least favorite roadblock. They agree the trolley washing was their least favorite detour. It was tedious, a nightmare. Peggy reminds the girls of leaving their pack at the swimming roadblock. They agree that was really bad. They say their taxi driver didn't understand any English. He didn't even know where the place was and they had real trouble even getting back there. The boys had the cabbie that knew the place! 1 2 3 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
