Previously on unRealWorld/nonRoadRules Challenge, Coral & Evan were off to the emergency room. Coral’s injury was serious enough that she had to be transferred to a better-equipped hospital, while Evan was told by the doctor that his hernia has begun to hemorrhage and he should cease all forms of exercise immediately. To quote Evan, “Whether I listen to his advice, that’s something else.” Coral and Evan both feel a “duty” to their partner to continue in the competition.

The morning begins with Evan limping out of the van to be greeted by some of the other contestants. He interviews to us that with the amount of pain he’s in, he is almost sure to cause permanent damage to his body by continuing to compete. So he has decided to ignore the pain. Oh, so that’s how it works… ignore the pain and it will go away. I’ll try that method with my next heart attack!

Evan tells the other guys that he was just at the hospital to be with Coral and that her knee is “busted up” but she should be okay. And he, himself, is fine. Darrell interviews that he has heard about Evan’s hernia and knows that the games will only get more extreme.

On cue, Coral returns on crutches. She demonstrates that she can walk (limp is a better word) without them, so she is okay to continue. She plays down her injuries to her friends to maintain her spot in the pecking order… at least until the next challenge.

And here it is, the T-Mobile dulcet tones ring and Theo recites the clue to everyone: Yo ho, up and down you go!

Morning dawns, and Aviv is telling Linette that she will stay in touch with her and Diem. Diem tells us the three of them have become attached at the hip. The irony fairies scatter their limit of irony dust and then go on their way. Elsewhere, Evan interviews that he’s not allowed to do any lifting at all, but he won’t pull out unless he’s forced to.

On that note, we meet TJ for the next challenge, where he announces that, due to their grave injuries, Evan & Coral can’t complete anymore, so they have to go. Evan argues with one of the producers that his doctor said he was all right. Coral whines at the same producer, but without conviction, that this can’t be happening. Evan interviews to the camera that he knows there’s a chance that his hernia could cut off circulation to his intestine and cause death, but he believes the chance was greater that he and Coral would have won the grand prize. Tina, ever the classy broad, interviews that on a personal note, she’s sad to see Coral gone, but on a competition note, “Oh, yeah! Goodbye!” Hugs are exchanged and goodbyes are said as Coral interviews that her team getting sick and being eliminated is the best thing that could have happened to the other teams.

After the goodbyes are completed, TJ tells the group that everything else will remain the same – same number of teams into the Exiles and etc., which means that the final four will now be the Final Three, with each team reaching the finals guaranteed to take home some prize money.

Today’s challenge is “Batten Down the Hatches.” There are two boats in the air (don’t ask me why). Each team member starts on a rope ladder, with their teammate on the ladder leading to the other boat. They are to climb up the ladders and then swing towards each other, trading ladders, so they each finish up by climbing on the other’s ladder. First team to do this and finish at the top in the shortest time wins. Darrell and Aviv choose the team order, since they won the last competition.

Naturally, Wes & Casey are first. They get to the trading point but can’t make the trade, so Wes jumps into the water, disqualifying the team. Tina and Kenny complete the task after some odd gymnastics from Tina on the ladder. Theo & Chanda seem to complete it without a problem. While the contest continues, Wes is strategizing with Tina (who’s in the second-worst team) about how they can avoid Exile.

Derrick & Diem complete the challenge, looking excited, but with no idea how long they took.. Shane & Linette complete the task. Darrell shocks everyone by falling off the ladder and disqualifying his team. TJ announces the results, and Derrick & Diem are the winners. Diem is ecstatic to have won something, jumping around like a lunatic, until she realizes that they have to send someone into Exile. Derrick explains to Diem that it’s smarter for them to send a stronger team into the Exile, to try to eliminate the stronger teams so they’ll have easier competition at the end.

TJ calls for a decision, and in the bravest move on the show thus far, Derrick sends Shane & Linette into Exile, with the hope of removing a stronger team from competition. (Yes! It’s about time someone started thinking strategically here!) Shane & Linette look devastated, of course, and Linette feels very hurt by Diem. Wes makes a plan with Tina & Kenny that they should vote for Theo & Chanda to change up the voting.

Deliberations begin and take very little time. Darrell votes first and votes for Wes & Casey because he heard Wes strategizing and didn’t like it. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon, and Wes’ big mouth costs his team another trip into Exile. Shane interviews that Wes & Casey are weak, so he isn’t worried about the Exile. Wes says he’s not worried about going against the “gay guy and the skinny girl,” so he thinks he’ll be fine. There’s much chatter from the girls about how the game has now changed from a political game to a strategic one.

Next time on Fresh Meat: The competition involves jumping from a great height. The women are nervous, the men are disgusted with the women… Come back and join us for that!
