Dancing with the Stars 3, September 13: It's Not Unusualby Jill Jones -- 09/14/2006
View Printable version of this article Tom and Samantha kick off the show by summarizing last night’s program. Instead of listening to them, read our recap! Next, Tom reviews the current scores for us based only on the judges’ marks:
Tom now asks Len, Carrie Ann, and Bruno which couple is performing tonight’s encore dance. Len informs us that Cheryl and Emmitt are dancing their cha cha cha again to “Son of a Preacher Man.” One thing that I enjoy about their performance is how hip it is. Many people think of ballroom dancing as being stuffy, but this routine proves that it doesn’t have to be. Karina and Louis now perform while Tom Jones sings “It’s Not Unusual.” I wonder if anyone will throw panties on stage at him. Interesting. This is one of my favorite parts of the show; while I enjoying seeing the celebrities dance and improve throughout the series, I also like watching the professionals do what they do best. They move their bodies in ways that seem to defy all logic. In fact, Karina and Louis do multiple spins while basically joined at the hip. I would have tripped walking onto the dance floor. Hey, Tom just purred. I should go on tour with him and provide the purring! Now we move backstage to talk to some of the celebrities. Sara tells Samantha that she was disappointed with the judges’ comments. Tucker says that if he moves on, he will do more dancing next week. Mario discusses his nervousness. Fascinating. Next, various audience members tell us what they thought of the performances. Hey, there’s Holly Robinson Peete and Nicole Sullivan. Nicole makes a funny at Tucker’s expense. Finally, it’s time to find out four of the couples that are advancing. The first twosome is Ashly and Harry. Harry looks stunned. He shouldn’t sell himself short though; he did fine compared to some of the other celebrities. Cheryl and Emmitt are also safe. That isn’t a huge surprise, but they are happy anyway. Kym and Jerry are moving on. Much like Harry, Jerry is completely surprised. Vivica and Nick are safe as well. They did a great job and deserve to stay in the competition. Before we continue on with the actual elimination, Samantha explains the Slim?Fast Dance Challenge to us. Tysonia Sichinga, a working mother of two, has been selected to train with professional dancer Christian Perry. Each week, she will learn a new dance and then perform it for friends and family. This week, she tackled the mambo, and is spinning and shaking her hips like a champ! Good for her! While Tysonia’s next challenge is the tango, some of our stars will be doing the mambo. Consequently, the professionals show us what it is supposed to look like. The routine is very sexy. I’m amazed that they can learn these extra routines in addition to choreographing their dances with the stars and train their partners at the same time. Samantha informs us after the performance that Tony choreographed it. I wasn’t a huge fan of his choreography last season, but I really enjoyed his mambo. Samantha is backstage again speaking to Jerry, Harry, Emmitt, and Vivica. Jerry tells us that he thought he was going home tonight, so he already checked out of his hotel. (Do you get the feeling that this is the guy who is going to provide most of the humor this season?) Harry is still surprised that he is moving on. Emmitt explains that he surprised himself with how well he did. Finally, Vivica says that her biggest competition is herself. It’s awkward moment time as Tom asks the judges who should go home tonight. Len begins by saying that he would select Shanna and Jesse. Bruno chooses Elena and Tucker. He then babbles on and gets booed. Carrie Ann thanks everyone for participating in the show, and then picks Sara and Tony. Before she can give any type of reason, the audience boos her. Hey, she was asked a question and simply answered it. At least she was polite and kind about it. Sigh. Now that we’ve made it through that, Tom (Jones, not Bergeron, thank goodness) is ready to perform “She’s a Lady.” I start singing my own version of it to Yoko, but she doesn’t seem to like it. I’ll just stick to recapping the show then. We now learn about the celebrities’ “long journeys.” Gee, we’re getting this during the first week of the show. This season is going to have more filling than a jelly doughnut. Again, it’s time to learn who else is moving on in the competition. To no one’s surprise, Elena and Tucker are in the bottom three. Monique and Louis are safe. Hooray! Edyta and Joey are also moving on. Shanna and Jesse are in the bottom three with Elena and Tucker. Karina and Mario are safe. Was there ever a doubt? Sara and Tony are also safe. That means that Willa and Maksim are in the bottom three. My stars, not Maksim. After the break, Samantha announces that Shanna and Jesse are safe. And the first couple out of the competition is… Elena and Tucker. Tom applauds Tucker for getting out of his comfort zone. Tucker explains that Elena is a patient person. He also says that he’s going to miss her accent and the way she says the letter H; he then makes an inappropriate joke about it. With that, the first results show ends, and Elena and Tucker are history. Do you think they deserved to be eliminated? Will Mario’s hips be able to keep up the frantic pace of the competition? How long will it take for Tom to say something that is actually funny? Feel free to share your thoughts with me and until next week, keep dancing and reading RealityNewsOnline.
