Kent Blackwelder Takes Us Behind the Scenes for the First Few Days of 'Big Brother', by Kent Blackwelder: As Big Brother 3 gets set to premiere on July 10th , folks are wondering about when the houseguests actually go into the house. And the burning question revolves around the first show and whether it is live, taped, or a combination of both. Arnold Shapiro's houseguests will be settled into that house on the CBS Radford Studio City lot long before we see them. For details on how it REALLY works, Kent Blackwelder of Big Brother 2 fills us in.
Is CBS Working on a ‘Celebrity Big Brother’?, by Susan Schechter: We know CBS has recently made its Big Brother 3 applications available (check in the article for a link), but now news has come out that they've been considering a Celebrity version as well. Where do they stand and what kind of celebs should we look for? UPDATED Thursday, Feb. 28 with new info. Big Brother’s Justin in Trouble Again, by Susan Schechter & David Bloomberg: Justin Sebik, who was thrown out of the Big Brother 2 house for threatening and intimidating behavior, has once again been arrested for allegations of violent behavior. Will he ever take responsibility for his actions? Deep Thoughts about the Mike & Krista Split, by David Bloomberg: It may have come as a shock to noboby that Mike and Krista from Big Brother 2 split, but at first glance the reasons seem kind of strange. Each was looking for fame and fortune, so why didn't they seek it together? A Big Brother Baby!, by Susan Schechter: It was bound to happen -- a couple formed due to a Big Brother show and eventually nature took its course. Who is the happy couple, and what does an egg have to do with it? Something Fishy Is Going On, by Charlie Reneke: The seemingly hopeless Frank and Teresa are saved by a last second change of rules. The seemingly unbeatable Frank & Margarita are sideswiped by a well placed route marker. Something very strange is going on in Reality TV Land... Big Brother Breakup – Krista and Mike Split, by Susan Schechter: Unbelievable as it may seem, one of the most perfect couples on reality television has split. Yes, that was sarcasm. Here's the story. Some Final Thoughts on Big Brother 2, by Susan Schechter: Here are my final thoughts on the houseguests, and my wishes for their futures. Good luck to all of them! Big Brother 2, The Final Episode: Snake Vs. Rat Redux, by David Bloomberg: Haven't we seen this before? The snake vs. the rat? Except this time it's not Rich and Kelly -- it's Will and Nicole. And the snake wins again! People do respect better game play, even if it means lying to do it. Why the Evictees Should Not Vote for Will, by Marjie Hodson: Looking at the live feeds, it appears that while the votes won't be counted until tonight, the evicted houseguests are lining up all on one side. Although it won't change anything, here is why they should not vote for Will. Feeling Hollow Over the Big Brother 2 Finale, by Susan Schechter: Why does it seem less enjoyable to watch the end of this year's Big Brother? Sure, things were a bit more interesting, but with everybody after fame and fortune, it leaves this viewer feeling empty. The Unbelievable Bloombergini Predicts the Big Brother 2 Winner, by The Unbelievable Bloombergini: The so-called "Manly Man" has once again challenged me in a battle of predictions -- this time over the outcome of Big Brother 2. I have taken up this challenge and tell you right here how each vote will go and who will end up as the winner. Big Brother 2, Episode 28: The Final Two, by David Bloomberg: So it's down to the final two -- but not before the evicted houseguest rips into the person who sent her packing. It's finally all coming to an end, and we get to see what some of the ex-houseguests are doing now that they're out of the game. But they'll all come back Thursday for the final vote.
Big Brother 2, CBS, and Tragedy: Readers Respond – Part 2, by The Readers of RealityNewsOnline: Response to recent articles about the way CBS and Big Brother 2 producers are acting in the face of the terrorist attacks has been tremendous. Here is another sampling of reader thoughts on this issue. Big Brother 2 Updates: Scheduling and What Houseguests Have Been Told, by David Bloomberg: CBS has again altered the schedule for showing the pre-empted Big Brother 2 shows in the wake of the attacks and aftermath. Also, they have added to what they told the houseguests. Big Brother 2, CBS, and Tragedy: Readers Respond, by The Readers of RealityNewsOnline: Over the past few days, RealityNewsOnline has shared the thoughts of its writers, both in dealing with the attack and how it is linked to reality TV. We have also heard from a number of readers, and now share their thoughts. Big Brother 2 Keeping Contestants in the Dark, by David Bloomberg: CBS and the Big Brother 2 producers told the houseguests about the terrorist attack of Tuesday. But they told them very little, and the houseguests really have no idea what has been going on. This includes Monica, who has a cousin on the missing list, and Will, who apparently has friends in New York. Which is more important, the game or the players? An Open Letter to CB S, by Susan Schechter: It's time to end Big Brother 2. Events in reality have overtaken reality TV. Big Brother 2: Endgame, by Susan Schechter: Because of the changes CBS has made to the ending of Big Brother 2, the results are fairly predictable depending on the outcome of the HoH contest. Who will stay? Who will go? And who will win? Big Brother 2: Alliances Formed, Alliances Destroyed, by Jeffrey Clinard: Throughout Big Brother 2, a number of alliances have formed. Yet now none remain -- all have been broken apart. It seems that all attempts to gain power in the house have ended up causing loss instead. What happened to the power of alliances? Big Brother 2, Episode 27: The Will of Will, by David Bloomberg: It's all up to Will. Will he boot Nicole or Hardy? Oh, come on, like there's even really a choice! After that's over with, they begin the final Head of Household competition. Big Brother 2, Episode 26: Survivors Beat Houseguests at Their Own Game, by David Bloomberg: What happens when four ex-Survivor contestants visit the Big Brother 2 house? A bit of fun, some competition, and people forget -- if only for a moment -- all of the crap that's been going on. Still, the Survivors can easily beat the houseguests at their own game. Big Brother Breaks Banner Banter Ban , by Alex Amorim: For the first two months of Big Brother 2, the television audience was purposely kept in the dark about the banner planes that routinely fly over the house, bearing messages from the outside. Now, they have finally come clean -- but it certainly wasn't because they wanted to. Why did they suddenly allow discussion of the banners? Big Brother 2 vs. Survivor, by Rob ‘Manly Man’ Daugherty: It's a battle of the wits when four ex-Survivor contestants visit the Big Brother 2 house. Find out what went on as The Manly Man watched it all on the live webcams! Big Brother 2, Episode 25: Nicole Cracks, by David Bloomberg: Nicole is losing it, but the producers choose not to show very much of it. Monica and Will are in power now. Monica will use her power for Good, how do you think Will will use his? Meanwhile, ex-Survivor contestants get ready for battle with the final four. Big Brother 2: Blame the ‘Internet Geeks’?, by Susan Schechter: Blame the Internet geeks! -- This seems to be the mantra of the Big Brother 2 houseguests lately. When they screw up and say or do something they shouldn't, they blamed those who point it out rather than the person who did it (themselves). Have they learned to take responsibility, or are they acting like children? Big Brother 2 Violates Own Rules to Keep Nicole Onboard, by Alex Amorim: One of the key rules of Big Brother is that the contestants cannot have contact with the outside world. Indeed, one luxury contest was for a precious 3-minute phone call with loved ones, while another involved a letter from home. Yet Nicole has been allowed to pass messages back and forth to her husband because she has threatened to leave the show otherwise. Should this violation of their own rules be allowed? Is Nicole Falling Apart?, by Susan Schechter: In recent weeks, we've been learning even more about the remaining Big Brother 2 houseguests as layers of their personalities get stripped away. But in only the past few days, it seems that Nicole may be cracking under the stress. Can she make it to the end? Should BB producers intervene? Big Brother 2, Episode 24: Bye, Bye, Bunky, by David Bloomberg: Another in a long line of non-surprises. Bunky is voted out after the first tie-breaker. Who will win HoH now? Nicole needs to, but then so do Will and Monica. At this point, a single move could mean the difference between half a million dollars and zip. Big Brother 2, Episode 23: The Bully and the B****, by David Bloomberg: Going into this episode, it was clear that Bunky was the next to go -- Hardy and Nicole (the two referred to in the title of this article, per a quote from Bunky) had decreed it. But will Will annoy Nicole enough to change her vote? Big Brother 2: Krista Supporters Strike Back – and Strike Out, by David Bloomberg: After Krista was evicted and continued her deceitful ways, some of her supporters let us know that they were unhappy at the way she was being portrayed. Here we respond to those criticisms and point out that, well, they really didn't have much in the way of a solid defense. Big Brother 2, Episode 22: Hardy in the Seat of Power, by David Bloomberg: Hardy sits in the seat of power. Not only will he nominate two people, but it's likely he'll end up with the tie-breaking vote for eviction as well. Has he turned to the Dark Side? Big Brother 2, Episode 21: HoH – Hardy Owns the Household, by David Bloomberg: Peanut butter & jelly is the cause for much whining, but the real question for the day is who will win HoH and what that person will do with The Power. Big Brother 2, Episode 20: Bunky’s Highs and Lows, by David Bloomberg: Bunky is proud of himself and Will is crying; Will refuses to put the others in a bad position, but Bunky does just that -- whoa, we must be in a mirror universe. Can the Houseguests Stay Sane?, by Susan Schechter: The contestants in the Big Brother 2 house have been in there for almost two months. How do the producers assure that they stay sane? The British version takes certain precautions for this very reason, some of which are also followed in the U.S., some of which are not.
Big Brother 2, Episode 19: Deception or Self-Deception?, by David Bloomberg: Change is in the air at the Big Brother 2 house. The way votes are cast is changed. The HoH competition will apparently be changed. And, most of all, Krista's personality has miraculously changed from one who lies and manipulates to one who takes a holier-than-thou approach to lying and manipulating. At least we won't have to see that anymore. But we do finally find out why she didn't tell anybody about the whole Justin-knife incident. The Skewed Viewpoint of Reality TV, by Susan Schechter: First impressions may be important, but sometimes they lead us to the wrong conclusions about a person. Even worse, reality TV may use its short excerpts to show only the good or the bad about a person, giving us a totally skewed vision of what that person is like. Big Brother 2, Episode 18: The Plotting of Dr. Evil, by David Bloomberg: Monica calms down, Krista says she won't lie and deceive (apparently ignoring the past), and Nicole pushes for a strategic vote. Meanwhile, Dr. Evil continues to spin his web of deceit in hopes of making it to the end. Redefining Standards: Evil on Reality TV, by David Eber: First, there was Richard. He was evil -- or so many people thought. Then there was Jerri. She was certainly evil, right? But then there was Chill Town, and a more evil bunch we would never find. Or will we? The standard of "evil" on reality TV has been degenerating, and may continue to do so.
Big Brother 2: A Tale of Three Alliances, Updated, by Jeffrey Clinard: Earlier we saw how three alliances had formed in the Big Brother 2 house. One of those has almost been eradicated, another went from ultra-secret to public knowledge thanks to Krista's big mouth. How are the alliances fairing and can we tell who is heading for the prize? Big Brother 2, Episode 17: The Untouchables Get Touched, by David Bloomberg: Nicole has one-on-one talks with each houseguest to explain her thoughts. Instead of calming things down, it heats 'em up. Krista gets mad. Monica gets mad. Nobody's happy. It should be a fun week. Big Brother 2, Episode 16: With His Head Held High, by David Bloomberg: Another non-surprise in the vote sends Kent packing. He was ready to leave the house of freaks, but we are still watching them. Old alliances come back to the fore, but are immediately threatened by new backstabbing. Who will the new Head of Household nominate next? Big Brother 2’s Kent: From Zero to Hero, by Susan Schechter: Kent started out on a low note, annoying many viewers with his opinions. But he quickly grew on us and now is getting ready to leave with our respect and even admiration. Big Brother 2: The ‘Will’ Strategy, by David Bloomberg: Will has been telling anybody who'll listen that they should take him into the final two because obviously anybody would beat him. But will they? Is it really such a lock? Or are the others setting themselves up for a fall if they believe him? Big Brother 2, Episode 15: Cats, Dogs, & Pigs, by David Bloomberg: It's like a zoo in the Big Brother 2 house. The contestants are fighting like cats and dogs. They add a pig to their lineup of animal behavior. And a bunch of them are making jackasses of themselves. Big Brother 2’s Kent: Will America’s Real Sweetheart Please Stand Up?, by Stacey Allison: When Big Brother 2 started, we all saw the potential conflict: the older right wing redneck and a bunch of young studs. But Kent has moved out of the stereotype and into the limelight as one of the few people on the show who are actually likeable. Big Brother 2, Episode 14: Too Much Smoke, Not Enough Surprise, by Susan Schechter: Hardy has to decide who to boot (hint: it's not a surprise). Kent has to make it without his cigarettes. And all of the houseguests have to down their favorite meals -- in a less than favorable circumstance. Big Brother 2: An Argument for Bringing Back the TV Voters, by Susan Schechter: In every other version of Big Brother around the globe, the viewers continue to vote on which contestant should be voted out each week and who should get the grand prize at the end. As we all know, the producers of BB2 in the U.S. changed things this year. But should they have done so, or would this season have been better with the viewer vote? Big Brother 2, Episode 13: Unlucky for Some, by Susan Schechter: Without worrying about Ouija boards, 13 was an ominous number for at least one houseguest tonight. And, with a new Head of Household, it could become very unlucky indeed for several others. Big Brother 2: Chilltonia Triumphant, by O'Sean Aieghlans: We haven't really seen it yet on TV, but the live cameras are revealing a new pact between Will and two rather unlikely potential allies. Will this mean the resurrection of Chill Town? Big Brother 2: Stress, Lies, and Videotape, by Jeffrey Clinard: The tension level is rising, and spreading. Who is coping? Who is not? And where do they all go next? Factions are splintering and people are starting to turn on those who used to be their allies. Big Brother 2, Episode 12: Mike’s Delusions of Grandeur, by David Bloomberg: In case you didn't know, the whole world revolves around Mike. Hell, probably the whole universe. He is "the star" and everybody else are just "extras." Other people are just there for him to use as he pleases. Oh, some other stuff happened too, but Mike has brought new meaning to the word "arrogant." Is Big Brother 2’s Krista America’s New Sweetheart?, by Susan Schechter: Krista has been putting herself forward as America's new sweetheart. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill, and it's usually designated by somebody other than the person in question. Can Krista live up to the name and the previous reality TV contestants who have been given this title? Big Brother 2: Alliances Rising, Alliances Falling, by Jeffrey Clinard: Chill Town is falling apart, but still mostly clueless. The Independents still don't seem to know about the Untouchables. But do the Untouchables still even exist with the Krista problem popping up? Handicapping this horserace is not easy task. The Evolution of Reality Show Evil: How Low Can They Go?, by Stacey Allison: First, there was Rich Hatch on Survivor 1. He was the villain of the series and many were quite upset to see him win. Then, there was Jerri on Survivor 2. She was annoying and objectionable, and most were thrilled to see her go. But then there was Justin on Big Brother 2, not to mention the Chill Town alliance. These people just keep getting worse. When will we hit rock bottom? Big Brother 2 Contestants Face the Ouija Board, by David Bloomberg: The Big Brother 2 houseguests have been given a Ouija board to play with, and some of them are taking it very seriously. Should they? What is a Ouija board, where did it come from, and how does it work? And how does this all come together for the BB2 contestants? Big Brother 2, Episode 11: Payback is a B****, by David Bloomberg: With Kent as Head of Household, Chill Town has good reason to be afraid. But they aren't the only ones who have done things Kent didn't like. So who will it be? Vengeance is a dish best served in the nomination ritual. Big Brother 2: A Tale of Three Alliances, and a Lesson in Life, by Jeffrey Clinard: Three main factions have developed in the Big Brother 2 house. Which one will win? Which will hold together? Where does Krista fall? And why do we hate Chill Town so much? Big Brother 2, Episode 10: Ding, Dong, the (Psycho) Witch Is Dead!, by David Bloomberg: In yet another predictable outcome, the self-admitted "psycho" witch is gone. But after meeting her mother, and Will's as well, we at least get some hint of where they got their personality flaws. Will the new Head of Household take Chill Town down yet another notch?
Big Brother Romances: U.S. vs. U.K., by Susan Schechter: The current versions of Big Brother in both the U.S. and the U.K. feature what appear to be serious romances. But while there are some similarities, there are even more differences between the two couples. Big Brother 2, Episode 8: Shannon’s Epiphany, by Susan Schechter: Guess what? Shannon just realized that nobody likes her. Wow! It's amazing that somebody so clueless can survive in the wild. But there you have it. Her relationship with Will (and Jim) is further explored and another strange relationship is looked at as well: Kent and Bunky. The Women of Big Brother 2, by Susan Schechter: The women of Big Brother 2 represent a wide variety of personality types. Two are already gone, but the others show enough strength that several could easily hang in until the very end. Big Brother 2, Episode 7: Without Surprises, Sex Sells, by David Bloomberg: Let's face it, the result of the eviction vote was not exactly a surprise. But at least CBS had a backup plan: Sex. Specifically, Shannon and Will, plus a special appearance by Shannon's (ex-?)boyfriend. And at least the result of the Head of Household competition was a surprise, though the next nominations won't be.
Big Brother 2, Episode 6: Personality Parade, by David Bloomberg: There isn't a whole lot of action on Tuesdays, so we get to see more of the personality issues. How does Shannon's self-image compare to what the others think? What is Nicole up to with the Brat Pack? Should Kent concede to Autumn? A Tale of Reality Addiction, by Sabrina Preville: Despite the fairly low ratings, there is something compelling about Big Brother 2. Besides the show itself, there are the live feeds, the live feed logs, the discussion boards, etc. All work hand in hand with the show to create an addictive atmosphere. The Bad, the Young, and the Banished, by Susan Schechter: Should CBS have known that Justin might not be the poster boy for good behavior? It sure seems that way, as news has come out about him having five criminal charges on his record. But he's not the only bad boy in reality TV. Even the British version of Big Brother had to boot somebody for repeatedly breaking the rules -- though in a much less dangerous way. Reality TV: Has the Bloom Gone Off the Rose?, by Susan Schechter: Germany has seen the failure of several reality TV shows, most recently including Big Diet, which ABC is considering showing to U.S. audiences. Has the bloom come off the reality rose, or are we just getting more discriminating in what we want to view? Big Brother 2, A Parent’s Nightmare, by Brigitte Taulbee: The contestants on Big Brother 2 aren't exactly the best role models -- especially for their own children! Can you imagine if your child heard you discuss some of the things these parents are talking about in front of the whole world?
Big Brother 2, Episode 5: Sucking Up Works!, by David Bloomberg: We have a new Head of Household, a new food competition, and a second round of eviction nominations. Even though most people wanted Will and Shannon gone, it looks like sucking up really does work. Oh, and we finally are shown something of the Mike/Autumn seduction saga. ‘Psychic’ Uri Geller Claims Influence on Big Brother, by David Bloomberg: As if reality TV wasn't strange enough already, now self-proclaimed psychic Uri Geller is saying he is influencing the British version of Big Brother. What is he doing with his vast magical powers? Could he help in the U.S.? Big Brother 2 Picks Second Head of Household, by David Bloomberg: They were supposed to pick a new Head of Household Thursday, but had other priorities. So they won't tell us who it is 'til Saturday. But we can get that info from the Web cams. Want to know who it is?
Big Brother 2 Directs Cam to the Gutter, by O'Sean Aieghlans: Big Brother 2 tried to avoid the boredom of the first series. But in doing so, what kind of trash have they brought into our living rooms? Already it seems that Jerry Springer's ghost haunts this household of horror.
Big Brother 2 Begins: So Do the Annoyances, by David Bloomberg: First impressions are difficult to overcome, and several of the new contestants on Big Brother 2 are not making very good ones -- either on me or on each other. Indeed, those first impressions even serve as the method for choosing the first "Head of Household," who will play a major role in determining who stays and who goes.
Big Brother 2 Conflicts a Certainty, by Rob ‘Manly Man’ Daugherty: Last year, Big Brother was boring. This year, in an attempt to spice things up, they've added more chances for nudity and sex, but also better chances that there will be some interesting conflict. Take a look at these predictions for what might spark some fights. Big Brother 2 – New & Improved?, by Rob ‘Manly Man’ Daugherty: The "new & improved" Big Brother 2 starts Thursday. But what, really, is "new & improved" about it? Sex? Nudity? Rob Daugherty takes a look at the changes and predicts whether there really will be any improvement -- or sex and nudity, for that matter.
