Married By America
Reality TV Hall of Shame: Marred by America, by Bruce Barker: Married by America was supposed to be a show in which America voted for who should hook up and get married "sight unseen." It was bad enough that what actually happened had little to do with what we'd been told. But what really tipped the scales into a Hall of Shame induction was the way the show treated the people who were on it.
Married by America, the Finale: Playing with People’s Emotions, by Jamie Goralski: The entire show comes down to this – will Jill & Kevin and Billie Jean & Tony get married? Who gets the big prize? And who gets their emotions ripped apart in front of a national television audience?
Married by America, Episode 7: Disaster Preparations, by Jamie Goralski: The two remaining couples are supposed to be preparing for their weddings – but it seems more like they should be preparing for disaster. They have to pick out wedding dresses & tuxedos, and of course they have to have their bachelor and bachelorette parties – both of which feature a lot of intimate contact with female strippers.
Married by America, Episode 6: A Family Affair, by Jamie Goralski: It’s time for the brides- and grooms-to-be to meet the families. Uh oh. Will the mix of Jill’s family and Kevin’s cause an explosion like matter and anti-matter? Will Billie Jean make it through without totally offending Tony’s father? Will Stephen (at right) get near Denise and at least pretend to like her?
Married by America, Episode 5: That’s What Friends Are For, by Jamie Goralski: The couples move into their “own” houses and have visitors – friends and family who appear to be there to grill them about their relationships. And why is Jennifer described by the judging panel as “cold” and “brittle”?
Married by America, Episode 4: The First Elimination, by Jamie Goralski: The couples have been chosen and begin their engagements at Copper North Ranch. Who will find immediate love or lust and who will instead find that they are definitely not the perfect match? Why aren’t the senses of humor of Xavier and Cortez matching with their partners?
Reality TV Hall of Shame: Even Vegas Weddings Mean You’re Married – Denise Luna of ‘Married by America’, by David Bloomberg: Denise Luna went on Married by America to compete in an attempt to marry Stephen. But she seemed to miss the point that you can’t marry somebody else if you are already married! Even when confronted with this information on the air, she tried to deny it and then act like a Las Vegas marriage didn’t really count. It was truly a shameful display.
Married by America, Episode 3: Engagements All Around, by Jamie Goralski: It’s time for the five singles to find out who America (well, their judging panel plus some call-in voters) picked for them. How will each react? Who will have love at first sight? Who will only be polite? And what happens when it is revealed that Denise L. is already married?!
Married By America, Episode 2: Get On With It!, by C. Brian Devinney: We have the special Wednesday episode so viewers can see the five choices for our final two singles as they get narrowed down to two by the family/friend panel. Will this group be more interesting than Monday’s?
Married By America, Episode 1: The Interview Competition, by C. Brian Devinney: Is Married By America really a show where viewers choose? Doesn’t really seem that way as family and friends narrow down the field before we even have a chance. In the premiere, all five singles looking for love are introduced, as are the 25 seeking to be their betrothed. Then we have interviews with the first three groups to narrow it down for viewer vote.
