America's Next Top Model 3, Episode 7: Everyone Has a Split Personality!by Phil Kural -- 11/05/2004
Previously, Cassie talked about her obsession with her body, even going so far as to admit throwing up in the past. Norelle struggled on the runway, and even fell during the girl's first runway show. When Kelle failed to show that she was photogenic last week, she was sent home. Which girl is going home tonight? I can barely stand the suspense! We begin this week watching the girls jump on their beds and having fun. Well, everyone except Cassie that is. She isn't having fun, and misses her family and boyfriend. She talks to her boyfriend on the phone and cries while telling him that she's not having a good time. He tries to comfort her, but instead, lets her vent. Smart move. Toccara lies on the bed and expresses how much she loves her curves, saying that she's there to break the norm. You know the drill - same thing she says every week. However, she adds that, not only does she want to be high fashion, but she wants to be all over the place. Norelle tells the camera that she wishes she had the confidence that Toccara had. She's worried that she still has flab. Please, you weight like 50 pounds! The phone rings and MY Yaya (Yes, MY Yaya) answers. Tyra is on the other line, and tells her to gather up the girls and meet her downtown. She tells Yaya to have them all bring heels and comfortable shoes. The girls meet up with Tyra who tells them that people don't know the girls exist yet, so it's time to send them out on go-sees. The girls get their portfolios, and Eva is very excited. She loves her portfolio, but Ann says that her portfolio is one of the worst. She knows she was in the bottom two at the last elimination, but feels good about the go-sees because people always like her in person. She feels she's prettier in person as well. Tyra tells the girls that they will be judged on personality, walk, and physical traits. The winner will get a rack of clothes from each designer they will be visiting. Nicole Miller is the first go-see. Ann tells her that she's not used to being in New York, but loves it. She gets into one of Nicole Miller's dresses and does her walk. We see shots of the other girls doing the walk as well, with Toccara making a comment that she loves Nicole's clothes because they fit her. Norelle feels that she isn't the most beautiful of the girls remaining, but hopes they see the potential in her. Amanda is up next, and didn't remember her high heels. She borrows Norelles' which are a size and a half too small. They mess up her walk, and after the first go-see, Amanda runs to the store to buy some shoes, and Eva, Cassie, Ann and Toccara go along with her. Yaya says that this is a competition, and that she's not waiting, along with Nicole and Norelle, who go to the next go-see. Ann says they were in the store for longer than 15 minutes, and when they get outside, their van is gone. They don't know where the next go-see is, so they run back into Nicole Miller and basically make a scene as they try to find out where they are going next. The five girls go running down the street, with all their shopping bags. Yaya says that Nicole, Norelle, and she have waited for the other girls for almost a half hour, when they finally arrive. Nanette LePore is the go-see, and she is very upset that the girls that were late, and tells them that in this industry, they have to meet deadlines and respect them. Amanda talks to the designer and tries to take the blame, but feels that makes Nanette hate her even more. Nanette thinks that Amanda is too much like a hippie, while they feel Nicole almost has "it", Eva is striking, and Cassie is cute, Norelle looks better in her pictures and Ann needs to "come alive." Yaya defends her time to Nanette, who tells her that she's aware of the girls that were there on time. They all love Yaya, and admire Toccara too since she is trying to break ground. Toccara does have some issues with the clothes, and says its frustrating. Diane von Furstenberg is the next stop for the girls, and she has this odd obsession with making the girls twirl. She rushes to find a dress for Toccara, but worries they have nothing. Cynthia Bowley is up next, and she's not at all fond of Norelle or her walk. She seems to be a big fan of Yaya, Ann, and Eva though. Toccara works it hard, and says she is happy. Finally, the girls go to their last go-see, with Mark Bouwer. Everyone is now tired, and it's beginning to show. He has each of the girls put on a long gown and try to walk. Everyone is having issues with it, and Ann has this little skimpy look going that Mark loves. He's a fan of Yaya too. Mark is concerned about Cassie and her hips, and then measures them and says they are too large for his taste. Cassie isn't happy that he told her that, and she doesn't have to model for him anyway. I do love Cassie! When everything is over, Mark has to tell the girls their total sums. From the lowest to the highest - Norelle came in last with 170, and she looks shocked. Nicole scored a 178, Toccara scored a 181, Cassie had a 184, Eva and Amanda both had a 188, which leaves Ann and Yaya once again, just like the last challenge. Yaya scored a 211, while Ann scored a 207, making Yaya the winner. She is able to choose one girl to get a rack of clothes with her, and she chooses Nicole. On the way home, Eva and Norelle aren't too happy. Norelle says she feels like a joke, and Eva and Amanda try to comfort her. Yaya looks over the clothes with Nicole and reads each note that the designers left for her. Toccara is happy for Yaya, but is scared since she knows you don't see any big girls on the runway. Nicole and Yaya do some modeling in the new clothes as Toccara grows even more concerned. Norelle talks to her mom on the phone and tells her she's mad because she's giving it her all, but it's not good enough. Norelle's mom tells her to stay strong, and other little things to help build her confidence. The girls then head for the Sunburnt Cow and have a bite to eat. Cassie says it's been rough since she's been there, and is feeling singled out by everyone. Nicole knows that Cassie has a lot going on, and she's very emotional. Cassie tells the camera that there is a lot going through her head. Norelle tells the other girls that she's still there because she really is progressing. She can see it in herself, and then shows her ass off to the other girls. Oh that Norelle. Ann says that on the way home, everyone was feeling loopy in the car. She feels that Norelle is so innocent, then kisses her in the car (No, not with tongue.) But wow, Norelle really is coming out of her shell. When they get home, some girls jump in the Jacuzzi, while MY Yaya, Nicole and Toccara have a toast to themselves. Amanda, Eva, Norelle and Ann play in the Jacuzzi, and Amanda says it brings out their bad side. Cassie is on the phone with her mom and is worrying about her uncle that is sick. Her mom tells her not to worry too much, and to give it her all since it's what she wants. Tyra mail tells the girls that they will double over from all the strain in their next shoot. Cassie says that she knows she has to give this shoot everything she has. The girls get to the shoot and find a guy standing there that actually turns out to be Ms. J. He says Jay Manuel won't be there today, and out comes what looks to be a drag queen. Cassie just thinks it's an ugly woman. Toccara figures out that it's Jay Manuel dressed as a woman. Cassie is a little freaked out, and says it's not something you see in Oklahoma. Jay asks the girls if they have what it takes to be someone else. They are doing shots as two different people today, and will do two shots, but must look like the two people are interacting. The Ford Mustang will be the scene for the shoot since it shows grit, toughness, and sexuality. Toccara says she's ready, while Jay says his feet hurt. The girls meet Davido, who will be the photographer for the shoot. Each girl begins to get their hair and makeup done. The original Jay Manuel returns to help the girls. Norelle does her first shot, and has to look shocked. The alter-ego Norelle goes next and she's supposed to be an Amazon woman. Jay seems to love it. Ann's alter ego looks hot, and so does the makeup. Her normal shot looks great too, and everything goes smoothly for her for once. Nicole looks great normal, as always and her alter-ego looks very edgy. Eva looks like a star in both egos of course. I have to admit, Eva takes some great pictures! Cassie is having issues with her hips again, but let me say, her alter-ego shot looks hot. She's a dominatrix. Her regular shot looks a little weak though, and she looks tired. MY Yaya is working the camera and looks perfect, while her alter ego is very sultry, but I love it, as does the photographer. Amanda steps up, and her alter-ego is very different, but I don't like it. Her regular shot looks rather innocent, but dull for her. Toccara is last, and is also having issues. She doesn't like her outfit at all, and is basically wearing a pair of pants and an orange button down shirt. She says she looks like a Home Depot worker and I agree. She knows she has to prove herself to high fashion. The wardrobe lady doesn't seem to like Toccara's attitude with her outfit, as she keep complaining, and both J's hear the whole thing. Toccara squeals over getting pinched by her dress, and Jay doesn't seem happy. She's feeling that people are putting her down, but when she takes her shot for her alter-ego, she looks very sassy and much more like the Toccara we have come to know and love. Jay loves the face, but isn't feeling her eyes. Toccara isn't happy with the shoot and feels she should have had more of a positive attitude about the whole thing. She sheds some tears but MY Yaya helps to comfort her and tell her that she is handling herself nicely. Aww, I love those two girls! At home, Tyra mail tells the girls they will meet with the judges tomorrow, and one girl is going home. Nicole says that there is more of a chance she is going home each week. Cassie says Toccara had a rough time, but she isn't sure who is leaving. Toccara is really scared and Norelle is nervous as well. She eats some McDonalds to calm herself down. The girls walk into the room, and Tyra says the group is getting smaller and smaller. As usual, she reminds the girls of the prizes and introduces the judges again, including designer Mark Bouwer. She tells them that that, this week, they were taught how to go to a go-see and present themselves. She wants each girl to tell the panel why they should hire her as their new campaign girl. Amanda goes first, and Nicole and Ann try to talk their way through it. Norelle tries to work it, while Eva stutters, but has a comeback. Yaya messes up, while Cassie laughs. Ann gets confused, and Toccara flaunts her weight. Her walk is all over the place, as Tyra lets out a little laugh. Time for individual evaluations! Eva goes first this week, and as they show her photo from her shoot, the judges love it instantly. Ann goes next and Mark thinks that her photo is just the beginning, and that she has a lot of potential. Cassie is up, and Tyra thinks she could have been stronger and looks to relaxed, but they do think she photographs well. Amanda goes next and the judges aren't feeling her at all this week. Nigel knows she has it in her, but the shoot wasn't for her. Norelle goes next, and they make her show some attitude since she's too sweet at times. They love her alter-ego in the shoot, but aren't sure about the regular shot. Then it's Yaya's turn, and they love her shot as well, but feel it may be a little weak compared to what they are used to from her. Nicole is next, and they don't seem to be happy at all. They feel it was all over the place. Toccara is last and they say they didn't like her walk. They say the shot is pretty, but not top model, however, the alter-ego shot looks hot! Time for the judges to deliberate. Janice says she is pulling for Yaya, and the judges are half and half about her. Mark thinks Ann has "it" and loves her photo. Tyra says she looks at Nicole and knows nothing about her, which confuses her. Amanda needs to be stronger and had a bad photo this week. Nole' says he has never been a Norelle fan, but she's growing on him. Tyra says Norelle is growing too slow. Nigel thinks Eva is progressing fast, but Janice feels she is still too short. Nigel says maybe she'll grow by next week. Nigel also says that Toccara was weak and Janice wants her to lose 130 pounds. Mark thinks she'll never be a top model. In regards to Cassie, Nole' feels she isn't passionate. Tyra wants Cassie to do well, but Nigel isn't sure about her either. Janice pulls for Cassie over Toccara, simply because of weight, and Tyra flips out on Janice saying that she has to choose a side. Apparently, Janice said before that Toccara might make it, and now she's flip-flopping on the issue. Janice gives up and Tyra says she can see discrimination. Tyra greets the girls as they walk back in the room. She tells them she has seven photos in her hand and the girl not called is going home. The first name called is Eva. She's followed by Ann, who is told she had a great shot this week. Yaya is next, followed by Norelle, who is told that she looks fierce in costume, but when it's just her, she loses her confidence. Amanda is called next, followed by Nicole. Cassie and Toccara step up. Only one name will be called. Tyra says that one girl seems to have joy, while the other looks like she doesn't want to be there. The judges believe in one, while some feel there is no place for the other in high fashion. The judging was difficult, but Toccara is the last name called - Cassie is eliminated. She heads out, waving to the other girls. Back at the loft, Cassie gathers up her stuff and says she had a feeling it was her since the judges were starting to see she wasn't happy. She doesn't want to live in NYC and feels that maybe she isn't fit to be a top model. One thing is for sure, she can't live with that many girls again, and she just wants to go back to Oklahoma for now. Next week, the girls toast to the final seven, and the competition heats up. Each girl gets more in touch with their inner diva, while Eva breaks down at the photo shoot and will have to face one of her greatest fears. This should be interesting - it's about time Eva got a wake up call! Now, instead of saying who I like, dislike and who I'm not sure about, I will now rank the girls in order that I feel they are doing, from best to worst:
This means that I feel Toccara will be the next girl eliminated. Will I be right? Will I be wrong? I'll probably be wrong - I always am, but it's still fun guessing! I'll be back next week!
