American Idol 4, March 16: The First Goodbye

by Sting7 -- 03/16/2005
Last night, it was the return of Nikko. It was also the first theme night of the season. It was a night Randy woke up on the wrong side of the dawg house. Tonight, one of the Top 12 will be history. Is it spunky Jessica Sierra?

Ryan welcomes us with a tease. Thirty million votes, just shy of the finale record. Ryan says all day people have asking him what is the reason! The reason the judges were so mean last night! Hardy-har. Recap of last night’s show.

Ryan introduces the Top 12, who will be performing three songs for which we must vote. The winning song will be released as a single to benefit the American Red Cross. Tonight’s song is "When You Tell Me That You Love Me." Beautifully performed, especially the chorus. Constantine and Mikalah sounded a bit off, Carrie Underwood seemed to have a featured role!

Hey look, there’s American Idol Emeritus Ruben Studdard! Ruben recently slayed us here in Denver. His new album is going to be hot!!

Last night, I predicted the bottom three would be Nikko, Mikalah, and Lindsey. I’m thinking Lindsey will be waving goodbye tonight. My batting average hasn’t been much to crow about so far, but I’m feeling pretty good about this one. Am I right?

Now the results:

Constantine - is safe!

Nadia - is safe!

Anthony - is safe!

Lindsey - is in the bottom 3

Bo - is safe!

Carrie - is safe!

Scott - is safe!

Mikalah - is bottom 3

Anwar - is safe!

Jessica - is in the bottom 3

Nikko - is safe!

Vonzell - is safe!

So, the bottom three is Lindsey, Mikalah, and Jessica. Two out of three, but there is no way Jessica is going home. I am glad Nikko got a break tonight, after the wild week he’s had, he deserves a good long exhale.

So three nervous lovely ladies are standing in the middle of the stage. Mikalah is not one to hide her emotions, if she gets sent back to the couch, she may do a cartwheel on stage. Like Diana DeGarmo last year, though, I wish she’d learn a little grace. Celebrating in front of a disappointed person is not the way win votes.

Ryan asks Simon if the audience is less forgiving of mistakes. Simon says he thinks they are listening to him. He adds the audience knows when someone is good and when they are not.

Jessica is sent back to the couch! (Told you she wasn’t leaving!)

That leaves Lindsey and Mikalah. Ryan says, Mikalah it’s bad news. The audience gasps. Mikalah will have to wait for the next commercial to hear the results. Mikalah clucks a protest. Ryan says go ahead and hit him. Maybe she should.

Going home tonight is Lindsey Cardinale. I’ve said Lindsey just eludes me. I know she has a great voice, but she just hasn’t been showing it. Oh, the funeral video is back. And Lindsey sings a spirited "Knock On Wood," very breathy. Hard to sing when you are quietly sobbing. Good luck to her.

It only gets harder from here. I’ll be back next week for hand holding and tissue passing. See you then!
