Dancing with the Stars 5, September 26: The First Cut is the Deepestby Jill Jones -- 09/27/2007
But first (Don’t you hate when I do that?), I’m making an executive decision. Starting tonight, everyone involved in the show from hosts, to judges, to dancers will be referred to by their first name only. Usually, I use last names for the performance shows, but this season, I’m trying something different. I will use a last name if it is needed for clarification, and as always, nicknames are fine. I’m already thinking of calling Mel & Maksim “M & M!” Also, have I been living under a rock? I didn’t know that Ashly Delgrosso from the first three seasons of Dancing with the Stars is now a wife and a mother. Why didn’t someone tell me? If you want to learn more, check out Ashly’s web site. Tom and Drew welcome us to tonight’s program and tell us that Dolly Parton and Savion Glover are on tap to entertain us. Later, our esteemed hosts review the action from the previous night’s program. You can read my recap of it if you’d like; it’s tasty and good for you. Len explains that he, Bruno, and Carrie Ann have selected Sabrina & Mark for tonight’s encore performance. Once again, the dance is energetic and the moves are crisp. Is it wrong of me to want these two performers to find love with one another on the dance floor? Tom and Drew review the current standings:
Woo hoo! It’s time to learn who the first two couples moving on in the competition are. Sabrina & Mark are safe, as are Jennie & Derek. Dolly Parton sings “9 to 5” while some of the pros dance. While I enjoy Dolly’s singing, her pants bother me. Drew moves backstage to talk to the male celebrities. They all give politically correct answers to his questions. Albert’s chest makes another appearance. The audience shares its thoughts with us. One woman says she wants to skinny dip in Cameron’s eyes. Everyone agrees that the stars did a great job. Tom and Drew reveal two more safe couples. They are Julianne & Helio and Anna & Albert. Drew talks to the couples that are moving on. Albert promises to keep it sassy. Sabrina may start practicing tonight. Savion Glover, who is known as the world’s greatest tap dancer, performs for us. I’m actually mesmerized by his moves; I didn’t move for about three minutes straight. Now I know why he’s considered the world’s best in his field. Dolly returns to sing “Better Get to Livin’.” Her pants continue to bother me, but I like the song. Kenny Mayne is featured in a segment titled “The Origins of Dance with Kenny Mayne.” He tells us that he’s on a quest and that South Africa looks like Malibu at certain times of the day. Oh, look; he’s talking to a caveman. Yawn. Tom and Drew reveal the next two couples continuing on in the competition. Mel & Maksim are safe. So are Edyta & Cameron. In a pre-recorded segment, the judges tell us about the difficulties of training for the competition. They also discuss the mental strain that the stars experience. The hosts tell Jane & Tony and Cheryl & Wayne that they are safe. They break the bad news to Josie & Alec and Kym & Mark; they are in danger of going home, which means that Karina & Floyd and Marie & Jonathan are safe. Tom finally tells us that Josie & Alec have been eliminated from the competition. Alec is probably not going to do this show again if he is paired up with a model. Josie reluctantly thanks the judges for being honest. Alec asks for everyone to vote for his wife Edyta. After one week of competition, Josie & Alec are out of the competition. Join me next Monday when all of the remaining couples perform and then again next Tuesday when another couple is eliminated.
