Are You Tempted?, Episode 5: The Fight for Meganby David Bloomberg -- 07/10/2002We pick up in episode 5 where we last left off – with the girls making their way to the boat after their difficult time with the bonfire videos on Day 8. Shannon is once again noting that the whole reason she hadn't want to see the videos was that what you see out of context can destroy you. Mandy, of course, was still mad and felt she was about to throw away an "amazing relationship." Um, Mandy, if it's so amazing, why did you come on this show? Why did you play around with Johnny and his tongue? Why? Why? Why? I have one possible answer: You're a moron. Next we see the guys after their bonfire, where Andy is talking about how Shannon doesn't appear to be holding back. But he says he'll roll with it – if the relationship goes upside down, he'll be turned upside down as well, but everything happens for a reason. Day 9 arrives and it's time to boot another single off the island. Before they make that choice, though, each of the single guys is paraded in front of the girls to tell them which of the three they like best (same for the opposite sex as well). Johnny, unsurprisingly, says he likes Mandy the best. He didn't mention whether he had a chance to taste the others, though.Sean also likes Mandy.Jon likes Valerie.Jim says Valerie is a babe.Charlie feels the most connected to Shannon.Dano also likes Shannon.Matt, Evan, Greg, and Tom all agree that Shannon is the one they like most.Final score: Shannon 6, Valerie 2, Mandy 2. Mandy drops to 1 when they decide to throw the arrogant Sean off the island. Sean strikes back by telling the camera that Valerie's "aura" is bad and he doesn't know why she's here; besides, he wanted to go anyway. Yeah, sure you did, pal. Buh-bye. Now it's the guys' turn to hear from the single ladies. Elizabeth likes Billy – in part because he gives the best amateur strip tease she's ever seen in her life. I'm sure Mandy would be thrilled to hear that!Lisa also goes for Billy, as do Britt (who?), Venus, Carla, and, of course, Vanessa, who loves the way he makes her feel. Awwww.Megan says she and Andy got off to a rocky start but she appreciates the heart he showed. After she walks away, the three guys realize she never specifically said that she was picking him as her favorite.LaWonna picked Kaya, saying he is a wonderful person and is "in this world but not of this world." Huh? So she thinks he's an alien?Patti also goes with Kaya, as does Alison, who senses a mutual attraction.Final Score: Billy 6, Kaya 3, Andy 1 maybe. Kaya drops to 2 when they decide to send Patti home because she was using "strong arm tactics" to try to get them to take her out. After the execution (oh, wait, that's The Mole), Carla comes up to Andy and tries to kiss up to him and say that she should have picked him. But later she tells the camera that he's not her favorite. So what is her game? We'll never know, ‘cus that is pretty much the last we see of her. Next it's time for the selection of the fourth dates. They draw straws to see who picks first, and then get to choose their date. Andy goes with Elizabeth because she's "hot as hell." Billy goes with Vanessa again, noting that he doesn't know if he'll hold back with her or not. Vanessa was the girl he went out with before finding out about Mandy's tongue-bath with Johnny, and who he went to for comfort after seeing the video. Kaya picks Megan, which upset Andy a bit. But, hey, Andy, you went first and could have picked her if you wanted. When host Mark Walberg shows up at the other "camp," the women are having quite a party with the single guys. After he manages to separate them, we find that all three women are thinking about Tom. But Mandy and Valerie decide to leave him for Shannon, who picks third, because there seems to be something going on between the two of them. Mandy picked Matt, and Val picked Evan. We move into Day 10 as the players arrive to pick up their dates, who apparently hadn't been told ahead of time. Andy walks into Elizabeth's cabin, which she shares with some of the other women, wearing only a Speedo and a backpack, and then proceeds to jump into bed! (Alas for Fox, it's only in fun, not for sex.) Billy takes Vanessa to the Mayan ruins and is obviously quite interested in her (in case that wasn't obvious enough already). He says she is the most attractive woman there, and she buys him a heart necklace. I'm sure Mandy will just be thrilled to see that. Later Vanessa picks up a butterfly and rubs it's fluttering wings over her body and then on Billy. Many men in America simultaneously wished they could be that butterfly for a few minutes (that is, when it was with Vanessa, not Billy – though I guess a few viewers probably wished for that, too). Mandy is happy with Matt, who she says is fun and carefree and the kind of guy she would date. But then, who isn't? It's not like she seems terribly picky. Andy is happy to finally have the chance to go out with Elizabeth, who had been blocked from him until this opportunity. She, in turn, is impressed with him. Andy says she is an incredible girl and thinks they are both attracted physically to each other. Indeed, he told her that when he gets back to tell Shannon about what a good time he had, he may have to relocate and move to Belize. Elizabeth volunteers to stay with him. What a girl! But Andy tells the camera he'll choose Megan over her for the final date. Shannon, meanwhile, is experiencing the "butterflies" feeling of dating again, and loving it. She says Tom has lots of amazing qualities that Andy has, and she can't pinpoint anything that one has over the other. Uh, Shannon – how about the fact that you've had a rather longer time to get to know Andy? Nah, I guess that's not important. Valerie has a laid back date because she says she is at the point where she didn't want to be there anymore – she wanted to be doing all these things with Kaya, not with some other guy. Kaya doesn't seem to be having quite the same reaction, as he feels he is really connecting with Megan. Indeed, as the date goes on, their mouths eventually connect for quite a long time. Even as it happened, he knew he was stepping on Andy's toes and there would be repercussions. Indeed, as they arrived back, both felt uncomfortable, and it only got worse. Megan decided to confess her sins to Andy – they talked for about a half hour and she "lost it," in Andy's words. She said she couldn't help her feelings for Kaya and apologized to Andy: "Andy, oh my God, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Back in their cabin, Andy and Kaya talk about what happened: Andy: "Oh my God, you should have come and told me. When were…were you gonna come and tell me before I…before I like, essentially picked her tomorrow?" I look like a jackass, Megan looks like a whore!" (Hmmm, nope. I think Mandy's the one who looks most like a whore. But getting back to the story…) Kaya explains to the camera that it's not like he stole Andy's girlfriend – indeed, they both have (or, at least, had) girlfriends on the other side of the island! He didn't want to hurt Andy but had to be true to himself. The two groups are informed that, after the final date selection the next day, all the other singles will be sent home. So it's the last night to party hearty. Kaya is trying to choose between Megan and Alison. Andy is "totally torn and frustrated." Billy really likes Vanessa, but says he would feel bad if he hooked up with somebody and Mandy didn't. Yeah, right. Don't worry about that. As if to make just that point, the show cuts to Mandy partying with various guys. Kaya and Billy decide to take a walk along the beach to discuss the whole situation. Billy says the process is killing him – even if she does hook up, he doesn't know if she could handle him doing it, too. Well, I gotta say, he knows Mandy. If there's one thing we've seen from Mandy, it's massive hypocrisy on that front! As the camera crew follows Billy and Kaya down the beach, Billy turns and asks that they leave him alone, trying to get them to turn off the cameras. He says this doesn't concern the show, "this is my life." A crewman responds, "Actually, your life is the show right now." Busted. Day 11 begins with Billy noting that in a little more than 48 hours, they would be reunited with their "significant" others and that's when all the explaining would have to happen. Yeah, I want to see Mandy explain her date with Johnny – not to mention everything else she did that Billy didn't see. Kaya wonders where Andy is, but Billy says he has a feeling he knows. Kaya adds that it seems Andy has fallen in love with Megan, and they did indeed spend the entire morning together. Which makes the final date selection that much more interesting. The three guys are holding flower bouquets and sitting in front of the line of women. Kaya makes the first choice, having the option from the three remaining women that he had dated: Alison, LaWonna, and, of course, Megan. He chooses Alison, noting that the date with Megan was good, but Alison was the perfect match and he even was thinking about her on the other dates. Andy gets to pick from Carla, Elizabeth, Venus, and Megan. Well, we know it won't be Venus, but we're pretty sure it will be Megan, right? Wrong. He chooses Elizabeth! He said he had anticipated choosing Megan, and she had anticipated being chosen by him, but while he and Megan connected on an emotional level, he said that he connected with Elizabeth on a physical level. Well, at least we know what he's after. Billy got to choose from Lisa, Vanessa, and Megan (again). No surprises here – he went with Vanessa, and they shared a long embrace. So, in the end, Megan got screwed. She tugged at the heartstrings of two guys, but the uncomfortable nature of such a competition may have led to her being picked by neither. Now we pick up with the women getting ready to choose their dates. Mandy has a request – she doesn't want to be limited to just the guys she has already dated, but wants to be able to pick one from their triple-date, where she wasn't officially dating him but had spent time with him. The other two reluctantly agree, seeming to not want to argue about it. But their choices will wait until next week. The promos tell us that next week's episode – ironically airing on Valentine's Day – will feature the final dates and the couples getting back together to decide whether to continue in their relationships. Oh, and we get to see Ytossie and Taheed again. Yippee. If rumors are true, all the couples will choose to stick together. However, it should be amusing to watch some of the explanations – indeed, it may be the most interesting part of this whole series. Tune in next week.
