Big Brother 2, Episode 15: Cats, Dogs, & Pigs

by David Bloomberg -- 07/10/2002
It's like a zoo in the Big Brother 2 house. The contestants are fighting like cats and dogs. They add a pig to their lineup of animal behavior. And a bunch of them are making jackasses of themselves.

They’re fighting like cats and dogs in the Big Brother 2 house, folks. In fact, the only one who is happy right now is Will. Why? Because he is really enjoying the spectacle of these folks tearing each other apart. What a guy, that Will. But really, can you blame him? These folks ganged up on him and his pals (sure, they deserved it, but still) and now they are tearing themselves apart. Mike and Shannon are surely sitting at home and chuckling as well.

Most of Tuesday’s episode involved one person or another fighting or blowing up or whining or complaining or… well, you get the idea. It’s hard to keep track of just who is allied with who, but I can guarantee that Kent and Bunky are on their own right now. Most of the house is shunning them, and it’s really pissing off Kent. In fact, he has been downright chivalrous in telling folks not to take out their anger at him on poor Bunky. Bunky, on the other hand, has been downright needy in his various attempts to get people to talk to him, explain what’s wrong, etc.

The general theme of the night (other than the fights, of course) is that Kent thinks Hardy is trying to take Will into the final two while claiming that he really isn’t trying to win, just trying to make sure that certain other people lose. Hardy, of course, denies this. Will actually thinks Kent has figured out the situation perfectly.

Going through the episode itself, Krista wants Kent out – at least in part because Kent nominated her the week before and said she’d broken confidences. Also, because he caused her poor Boogie to be thrown out. Gag me. And, of course, he’d said bad things about her previous boyfriend, Justin. Gag me twice. At the time, she’d whined that Kent said he was speaking for the house. No, he never did. He said you broke confidences, which you did. You just didn’t like being called out. Lucky for you, your playmates would rather believe your lying mouth instead of Kent’s truth.

As Bunky went around trying to find out who he should vote for, both Hardy and Nicole blew him off by telling him to vote his conscience. Yes, they used the same words. Suspicious? You bet.

Nicole then talked to Hardy about perhaps not voting against Kent. Hardy, who has become rabidly anti-Kent, said if you get rid of Will, you give Kent a chance to get rid of either of the two of them later. Yeah, but if you get rid of Kent, you do the same with Will. C’mon, Hardy, you don’t think Will is going to nominate you? Get a clue.

In other fights, Nicole and Monica were being loud in playing backgammon, and Bunky came out to ask them to please quiet down. I thought he was pretty nice about it, but the two girls got really pissy about his supposed attitude. In fact, they were so upset that it stayed with them for a lot longer than it should have – it was like they fed off of each other and just kept the anger going.

In another one, Kent and Bunky were eating and when Nicole came into the kitchen, Kent started talking about how he’s ready to get out of the house and feels sorry for some of these folks who will have to face people on the outside after their behavior in the house. Nicole, of course, gets pissed off and goes outside to vent to her little clique. She mutters about how she saved Kent’s ass – I haven’t figured out when that was, but she sounds like Mike. Frankly, Nicole is becoming less and less likeable every day. As somebody who hasn’t seen the show before wrote to me, “What a bitch!” Indeed.

Bunky knows that “Hardy and his harem” (I like that!) plan to vote him off next week – he says they don’t even make eye contact with him anymore. Kent is pissed at Nicole because she had promised Sheryl she’d get rid of Chill Town, yet here she is letting Will stick around. Nicole claims she threw the Head of Household competition so she wouldn’t have to nominate Kent (as if that was doing him a favor).

In one of the most stunning displays of the night, we had our first view of Monica’s temper. She’s been pretty laid back throughout, but then it finally all got to her. When Kent asked the group not to take out their anger on Bunky, she blew her top – and then some. I’ve seen volcanoes with less explosive force than this. She was practically foaming at the mouth, and pretty much everybody just stared at her, stunned. She screamed at Kent. She screamed at Bunky (who hadn’t even done anything). She screamed at Kent some more. She screamed at Bunky some more. I’m surprised she had any vocal chords left. This woman is going to need serious therapy when she gets out of there.

Everything came to a head at the weekly meeting when Kent gave a prepared speech on why people should vote to get rid of Will. He talked about TOP (The Other People) and how the four of them (he, Bunky, Nicole, and Monica) could stick together and win this thing. He talked about how Hardy is just using them. Etc. When he was done (he’d asked not to be interrupted and, surprisingly, wasn’t), Hardy erupted at him and said that Kent has no idea what he’s talking about. He repeated his claim that he’s not trying to win it himself, just trying to make sure that certain other people (like Kent) lose. They exchanged accusations of lying and Kent stormed out. Remember now, this is Hardy, who keeps claiming that he wants everybody to be friends afterwards and that it’s just a game, etc. Yeah, whatever. It’s getting to the point that I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

In the challenge department, the houseguests were split into two teams (boys against the girls) and had to “rescue” mannequins from inside the house – while blindfolded. The teams ran about equal until the last one, Will vs. Nicole. Will blew it. He practically tore the living room apart but never found a victim to rescue. With that win, the women got to choose a special reward totaling up to $100. Krista wanted flowers sent to Mike on her behalf. Nicole wanted flowers sent to her husband on her behalf. Will had wanted flowers sent to Shannon on his behalf if he’d won. You don’t think these three talked about this ahead of time, do you? Monica wanted more cigarettes. Obviously, Will didn’t get his reward, which upset him, but Krista added a line to her card (enclosed with the flowers to Mike) asking Mike to send flowers to Shannon from Will since he lost.

The result of this week’s America’s Choice question was that the houseguests should have a pot-bellied pig to take care of for a week. They were all sure it would be a puppy, but they were wrong. It was a neutered male pig named Ophelia, who is partially litter-trained (emphasis on the “partially”). Will took the opportunity to say, in the Diary Room, that at first he was concerned about the poor manners, grossness, etc., but then he figured that if he could put up with Kent and Bunky, so could the pig. Rim shot.

A user who had been watching the live feeds brought to my attention that Krista apparently broke the food rules by eating some of the pig’s food instead of solely PB&J, which they were supposed to eat that day (because of her failure in the food competition, she noted). Why wasn’t she penalized? I didn’t see the incident in question so I can’t be sure, but maybe they figure that eating pig food is a step down from PB&J. It does seem that sometimes Krista gets preferential treatment on the show – especially in the editing. We can only hope that the other guests realize what a double-dealer she really is and don’t clear the path so she can win.

In any event, I rather feel sorry for the pig. With all the other idiocy that’s going on in the house right now, Ophelia may be the most civilized of them all.
