A Big Brother Baby!

by Susan Schechter -- 07/10/2002
It was bound to happen -- a couple formed due to a Big Brother show and eventually nature took its course. Who is the happy couple, and what does an egg have to do with it?

Some time ago the esteemed Editor at RealityNewsOnline got an email. Can someone update the status of the Big Brother houseguests? Naturally this was passed on to me, since I had updated the status of Survivor 1 and Survivor 2 folks.

While I was working on putting that information together, news of a baby for Big Brother reached my eyes, and I thought I would file it away for the later article. But looking at it again, it’s too good not to share.

So ladies and gents, without further ado I bring you the Big Brother Love Child!

Relationships on Big Brother are nothing new. Some of the European houses have been noted for having way too much sex. So much sex that the viewers would rather read a book than watch TV. We in the states had a bit of a relationship the first season with Josh and Brittany. The second season gave us two love matches – Will & Shannon and Mike & Krista (though the latter has already ended). In the last UK house we had Paul and Helen, who according to reports are living together. And the first house had a couple, Claire and Tom, but this was downplayed with the Nasty Nick Story. It was also downplayed because these two did not connect in the house – they started dating after the show was over. And yes, even Nasty Nick has found a love match; according to a squib in Ananova, he is dating Edie Falco, of The Sopranos.

So it is with extreme irony I note that the weekend of November 3-4, when Krista broke off her engagement with Mike, Claire and Tom from the first UK house had a baby boy. This baby weighed nine pounds, one ounce. (Ouch!) They are not married, but are “partners” – across the pond.

The big news is that Claire Strutton and Tom McDermott cannot decide on the name for the baby. So the baby has been given the name of (drum roll please….) Egg. Yep. Egg. Sounds like a John Irving character, I know. In an interview with the (UK) Sunday Mirror, they said they cannot agree on a name. According to Claire, “We have whittled it own to a shortlist of three – Pierce, Dylan and Ryan –and may now draw it out of a hat. At least that would force us to decide.”

Well, anything is better than Egg! Isn’t it? More evidence that people who go on “reality TV” are incredibly unreal.

Susan would like to pass on best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving to all those reading this article, and is thankful her parents did not give her a name after an edible object.
