Dancing With the Stars 6, April 28: Hot, Hot, Hot

by Jill Jones -- 04/29/2008
Tonight’s show features two dances from each of the couples. But that’s not the exciting part. Read on to find out who needs to be stiff, who causes global warming, and who gets injured on live television.

Last week on Dancing with the Stars, Marlee & Fabian were eliminated from the competition. Tonight, the remaining couples perform two dances each. It’s as if the season has started all over again!

Tom and Samantha welcome us to the program. That’s about all that happens.

Up first are Marissa & Tony. Marissa tells us she can’t believe she’s still in the competition. Tony wants Marissa to bring sexy back.

They’re doing the tango to an instrumental piece. Marissa’s moves are a mix between simple and intricate; however, they flow together well and look great. Tony has choreographed an entertaining routine and Marissa performs it well.

Len tells the couple this was its best dance. I smell a goober, so cover your ears. Bruno says, “Great job.” Carrie Ann calls the performance wonderful.

All three of the judges give the couple a nine. Marissa & Tony have 27 points for their first dance. What? No goober? I’m surprised.

The next couple to perform is Cheryl & Cristián. Cheryl seems to have an attitude during rehearsals. We meet Cristián’s adorable daughter.

They are dancing the Viennese waltz to “I’ll Make Love to You.” (Not me personally.) Cristián seems stiff. I guess I just don’t get his style. He spins Cheryl at the end of the routine. Did her feet stay on the ground?

Bruno refers to Cristián as South America’s Clark Gable. Carrie Ann asks to see some extra flair from Cristián. Len says he wanted to see more waltzing.

Carrie Ann and Len give the dance an eight while Bruno gives it a nine. The couple has 25 points so far. Hmmmmm, Cheryl is showing some side boobage. Interesting.

Up now are Kristi & Mark. Kristi says she was thrilled to get a triple goober. Kristi takes Mark ice-skating; she shows him some moves she had to practice over and over again while in training.

They are dancing the Viennese waltz to “I’m With You.” The couple uses an umbrella as a prop. I wonder if Len will pop over the prop. Kristi’s movements are beautiful. The entire dance is surreal.

Carrie Ann says the prop worked; she felt the emotion. She also calls Kristi out on her turns. Len didn’t like the start of the routine with the umbrella. Ha! He then tells Bruno his hot air is causing global warming. Bruno says it all worked. Snap.

Carrie Ann and Len award the dance with a nine; Bruno gives it an eight. Kristi & Mark have 26 points. I’m not sure what Len is watching tonight, but oh, well.

The next couple ready with its first dance tonight is Karina & Mario. Mario is down during practice because of being in the bottom two last week. He also learns choreography for a new video.

They’re performing the foxtrot to “I’m Your Man.” Mario looks sharp while Karina appears to be wearing a curtain. The dance is smooth and energetic. There are a few slight missteps, but Mario manages to pull it off.

Len calls Mario a role model for other people his age. Bruno says Mario sometimes lacks the control that the foxtrot requires. Carrie Ann wants Mario to be stiffer. Tom giggles.

All of the judges give Mario & Karina an eight. They currently have 24 points.

The next couple set to take to the dance floor is Shannon & Derek. Derek says he has to put his friendship with Shannon aside this week and be tough. Shannon promises to take her aggression out on the dance.

They’re doing the tango to an instrumental piece. I like the intensity shown at the start of the routine, but I don’t like how the movements toward the end of the dance seem to be off from the music.

Bruno calls the tango a bitch and says Shannon did a great job. Carrie Ann calls the dance Shannon’s best. Len says, “Well done.”

All of the judges give the dance a nine. Shannon & Derek have 27 points after their first dance.

Up next are Edyta & Jason. Jason says he’s going to bring football to the dance floor. He also says the show is changing his life. I hope my recaps are doing the same for him.

They’re dancing the quickstep to “The Dirty Boogie.” Jason begins by jumping off the stage and over Edyta. He also displays good form and hits his steps. But at the end, Jason takes the judges’ papers and throws them before doing a handstand and landing on top of Edyta. I’m not sure what that’s about.

Carrie Ann calls everything about the dance fantastic. Len says Jason should make it through to the finals with the routine he just performed. Bruno tells Jason his dance with Edyta was the dance of the night.

Carrie Ann and Bruno award the couple with a goober. Len gives it a nine. Edyta & Jason have 29 points.

That concludes the ballroom dances. It’s now time for the couples to perform their second dance of the evening.

Marissa & Tony are doing the rumba to “Quando, Quando, Quando.” Marissa seems to get into the role she’s playing. The dance is a bit dull, though.

Bruno tells Marissa he would have liked for her to be dirtier. Carrie Ann disagrees with Bruno; Marissa’s dance gave her goose bumps. Len wants more hip action.

Carrie Ann gives the dance a nine while Len and Bruno give it an eight. For the Latin round, the couple has 25 points and an overall total of 52 points.

Cheryl & Cristián are ready to perform for the second time tonight, and are dancing the samba. Cristián shakes his hips a lot while Cheryl dances around him. He also misses a few steps early on. Toward the end of the routine, however, Cristián rubs his arm, stops dancing, and then resumes dancing only to drop Cheryl.

When we return from a break, we learn that Cristián has a severe muscle cramp. That must be painful. The judges all give Cristián props and say they only judge up until the point the injury occurs.

Each of the judges gives the dance a seven. Cheryl & Cristián have 21 points for the dance and 46 points overall.

Kristi & Mark are set to perform again. They’re doing the cha cha cha to “Don’t Stop the Music.” Kristi displays a lot of hip action and really seems comfortable on the dance floor. Mark displays several cheesy faces. I have to give him credit, though; he choreographs great routines. This cha cha cha is full of energy and fun.

Len says he liked the middle part of the dance. Bruno tells him it’s choreography and suggests he move into the future. He says the dance was inventive. Carrie Ann gives the dance three snaps. The judges have lost it tonight.

Carrie Ann and Bruno give the dance a goober. Len defiantly gives it an eight. Kristi & Mark have 28 points and a total of 54 points.

Karina & Mario are up now. They are performing the mambo. Mario shakes it and then shakes it some more. Like Kristi, he seems comfortable performing.

Bruno says the devil was in Mario’s hips. He’s in my hips, too, in the form of fat. Carrie Ann calls the dance fantastic. Len says the dance was wild, wacky, and wonderful.

The judges all award the dance with a nine. Karina & Mario have 27 points and a total of 51 points.

Shannon & Derek are next to perform. They are dancing the mambo to “Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That.” The dance begins with Shannon shaking her hips in front of the judges. Derek almost loses his shirt during the dance. Oh, and the dance ends the way it began… with Shannon shaking her hips in front of the judges.

Carrie Ann criticizes Shannon’s lines. Len thinks he’s gone to heaven and refers to Shannon’s rear as a bionic bum. Bruno talks about Shannon’s gangly moves.

Backstage, Shannon tells us she has a fake butt tonight. Cheeky!

The judges all give the dance an eight for a total of 24 points. Shannon & Derek have a total of 51 points.

Edyta & Jason are presenting the last dance of the evening. They are doing the paso doble to the theme from Monday Night Football. They’re also sporting the Miami Dolphins team’s colors. Jason’s moves are sharp and full of power, but I feel as if I’m watching an Army training video and not a dance.

Len says he didn’t like the posing Jason did, but he understands since he has the same body type. Bruno calls the dance a winner. Carrie Ann calls Edyta out on a lift.

Carrie Ann and Bruno give the dance a nine. Len gives it an eight. Edyta & Jason have 26 points. Overall, they have 55 points.

Tom and Samantha recap the dances and review the final scores.

Of course, Tom has to make a big deal about Kristi no longer being in first place. He needs to look at my standings.

Tomorrow night, another couple leaves the dance floor and Def Leppard performs. Hey, now, pour some sugar on me! Hopefully, no one will be injured.
