WWF Tough Enough 2: No Episode, So Here's Some News

by Mike DeGeorge -- 07/10/2002
Well, there was no WWF Tough Enough episode broadcast last week, which was kind of surprising news. But anyway, here are some updates on contestants from both seasons 1 and 2.

In the words of my spiritual twin, George Costanza, I’m back, baby! Got a new email address of mikmaria@earthlink.net. Rest assured that I got all messages sent to the old account before this Thursday, but it was closed out Thursday night by SWB.

As a side note, were the anti-trust activities of AT&T REALLY that bad in the 70s? I mean, if you traveled through time and forced Judge Harold Greene to sit through a few long-distance commercials (including and especially the excruciating Carrot Top ones) while having telemarketers constantly call him, don’t you think his ruling might have been different? I don’t know a whole lot about the case, but it seems to me that the cure was a lot worse than the disease in this case.

And does anyone else fear a future of baby-Microsoft Corporations?

Well, I sit down to watch this week’s episode, and I get Celebrity Deathmatch. Whatsupwidat? Apparently, there is no episode tonight! The various sites are reporting that this was planned, yet no one bothered to mention it to the viewing public. It’s moves like this that made the WWF number one!

From what is being reported, they decided to move the final episode to Thursday, May 30 from its planned date of May 23, since someone decided to air a “Divas” special on UPN the 23rd. There’s such a rabid following of Divas fans that it was one of UPN’s lowest rated shows last time they did it (no mean feat), so naturally they’ll move one of the high rated shows in its favor. Now, why they just didn’t skip Tough Enough on the 23rd, or better yet, reschedule the crappy Divas show is beyond me. But then I’ve GOT intelligence, which automatically precludes my being a network executive.

Geez. I guess we’ll do some news, instead, since there is a lot to go through.

First, as you may have noticed, it’s WWE now. As a result of the lawsuit from the World Wildlife Fund (since people are obviously going to confuse wrestling with panda bears; people are stupid, but even I don’t think they’re that stupid.) the World Wrestling Federation changed their name to World Wrestling Entertainment. I’m bound to screw up and refer to it as the WWF, even so.

Quick update on some of the contestants:

Taylor will be joining Global Wrestling Forces “Battle of Champions” in London, according to wrestlingnation.com. Thanks to Brad Grover for the info.

Also regarding Taylor, she and Chris Harvard wrestled a match for the AWA in California. Taylor won, due to the outside interference of Josh. Seems like something the WWF…er, WWE, should do, huh? Jeff Nettleton provided this bit of news.

I stumbled upon an interesting website, www.mavenhuffman.com. It’s Maven’s official fan website, and they obviously have good taste since they link to these articles. Check ‘em out!

I did read one bit of news on their site, that Maven’s theme song is “Tattoo,” by the band “Big Mother Thruster.” Also, Maven will be getting an action figure this July, as part of the “Wrestlemania X8” series!

To the TE2 cast, there’s a good article on Linda at http://enquirer.com/editions/2002/05/05/spt_puttin_smack_down.html. It highlights her former athletic career a bit more, just proving my theory that she’s the woman to watch on this show.

Dale Sherman went to the OVW house show in Louisville earlier this week, and sent a brief report. The most important aspect, for our purposes here, was that Matt Morgan was in attendance. He didn’t wrestle, but spent the entire show talking with OVW head Jim Cornette. We really don’t know why he was there, but it continues to look promising for Matt’s wrestling career.

I’ve also received a great piece of information about our favorite contestant, the Danimal! Seems he is wrestling for the WWA promotion in Leominster Friday, May 10. It is not confirmed, but there is a chance he could wrestle on Saturday as well. My source will be attending the matches, and I will give a rundown on his opponent and how he did, next week.

I’m sure I speak for all Danny’s fans (and from my email, there are quite a few) when I say that this is great news, and I’d like to wish Danny all the best in his career! That offer for the beers is still open, Danimal!

Scott Keith at 411wrestling reviewed a DVD I want to bring to your attention: Before They Were Famous. Remember Smokey Mountain Wrestling, which I mentioned in a lot of the trainer bios? This DVD is filled with SMW footage of TONS of current WWF Superstars, including Al Snow, Bob Holly, Kane, Chris Jericho, Tazz, and many, many more. I haven’t personally seen it, but I will be buying it and will let you know what I think.

[Editor’s Note: One more bit of news. The WWF Tough Enough 2 Soundtrack is out today. Just thought you might want to know.]

Tune in next week, where they might even show the next episode!
