Tough Enough Updates: Harvard Chris Doing Well, Maven Gets an Action Fig, and More!

by Mike DeGeorge -- 07/10/2002
Harvard Chris from the first show is doing well, Maven is recovering and has his own action figure coming out, and many other members of the Tough Enough crowd are popping up all over the wrestling world. Don't miss this update!

We’ll start this update with the best Tough Enough wrestler of the past couple weeks: Chris “Harvard” Nowinski. He teamed with the awesome William Regal to defeat Bradshaw and Spike Dudley Monday on Raw. Chris looked outstanding once again, continuing to prove me wrong with every match.

Maven is still expected to make his return from his broken leg in a matter of weeks. Around the same time (mid-July) his first action figure is scheduled to be released. Check out a picture of it above, courtesy of wrestlingfigs.com!

Also on Raw, Jackie teamed with new WWE Women’s Champion Molly Holly against Linda and Trish Stratus. The match was pretty good, although I have to be honest… much as I tried, I couldn’t get into it. I am assuming it’s because Linda has no real character right now aside from “Tough Enough 2 winner,” and Jackie is one of the more wooden entertainers in the WWE. Not to belabor the point, but she’s being used as mindless T&A, and that’s not what I watch wrestling to see.

In the same vein, I won’t we watching the WWE Divas Undressed special. It was scheduled to air Tuesday night, but the network apparently didn’t figure a “lingerie competition” would have any titillating or risque elements, and were displeased with the taped show. Thus, the WWE Divas Undressed Competition will air on Saturday, June 29, at Midnight Eastern on TNN, when the target audience is sure to be home alone.

In other news, courtesy Jeff Nettleton:

Taylor had her debut for the Arison promotion in Japan, as part of a tag team with a valet named Melissa and Arison regular Bionic J. Arison is supposedly a shoot-style (“real” fighting) promotion, which would be pretty interesting to see how wrestlers would fare in this. So if you’re able, check it out.

Kenny has been working a few shows in the UWF, in Las Vegas. I’ve been unable to find much information on this other than from vegas.com, where you can buy tickets to some events.

Hawk will appear on IPW (Florida) television this Friday. IPW has a good variety of quality wrestlers who haven’t broken through to the WWE yet, so be sure to check them out if you’re in the Tampa area. You can go to their website at http://www.ipw-hardcore.com/

Tryouts have started for TE3 and it seems that they’re structuring their tryouts like American Idol. The initial tryouts have cut the hopefuls down to three sets of 13, which will then be taken down to the lucky 13. This is not confirmed, but seems to be the likely result.

Finally, our favorite tax accountant Daniel Lue checks in with an interesting entry from the Internet Movie Database. If you go to the Tough Enough IMDB page and click on Jake’s entry, you’ll find that he’s been in such movies as Gang Bang Girl 31 and Black Butt Sisters Do Los Angeles.

Now, I have no idea if this is accurate, but it’s pretty funny.
