The Reality TV Hall of Shame: Krista Stegall of 'Big Brother 2'

Krista, of Big Brother 2, was already on the short list of nominees to next be inducted into the Reality TV Hall of Shame. But then she went and made absolutely sure she would get a prime spot by last week suing CBS for allowing Justin Sebik (who was the first inductee) into the house where he could threaten her and be a danger to everybody. And, of course, it is just coincidence that she happened to file this suit at almost exactly the same time that Big Brother 3 is kicking off. Not to mention that she never showed any signs of trauma from the experience before, and either laughed it off or claimed she hadn’t even remembered it happening.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Krista has earned her spot in the Hall of Shame through a wide variety of activities. First there was indeed her drunken flirting with Justin, who pretended to swing a floor sweeper and her head and held a knife at her throat in some bizarre mating ritual. At no time did Krista act like she felt threatened, and indeed she acted as though she was mystified as to why Justin was booted. She never discussed it with the other houseguests, even when a banner flew to suggest that she really did know what had happened.

First, Krista claimed to Julie Chen that she hadn’t remembered the incident. But then, on the CBS morning show, she said she took the whole thing as a joke and said that Justin was a fun guy. Mind you, both of these were on CBS, the very people she is suing. They have her on tape and now she thinks she can get money from them for feeling threatened? Forget it.

But between the time when the knife incident occurred and she was booted, Krista did other things that put her firmly in the Hall. She dubbed herself “America’s Sweetheart.” Excuse me, but I thought that was something that, well, America should decide. And, of course, that person should be sweet.

Her behavior instead showed lies and deception. Now, I have nothing against lying and deceiving in a reality show – Will used that formula and won! But don’t proclaim yourself to be above such behavior while simultaneously engaging in it. And this was not just something she told the other players to keep them off their guard. When she was booted, she kept on saying that she was proud of her behavior, she stood by her friends, she did not tell a lie, etc. She repeated her mantra of how she hadn’t lied to people as if she was trying to convince herself. Maybe she finally did, but the rest of us know what really happened. We saw it. See, Krista seems to have forgotten there were these TV cameras all over the place, and we could see and hear pretty much everything.

Speaking of seeing and hearing everything, while her daughter was at home, potentially watching the show, Krista not only lied, but she got drunk, swore like a sailor, jumped on the men in the house, talked about drinking Nyquil for the buzz, etc. When Krista had an opportunity to send something to somebody outside the house, did she send it to her daughter? No. Instead she picked Mike Boogie. When she was voted out, she decided to spend time with Mike instead of going straight to her daughter.

And, of course, then there was the whole thing with Mike. He proposed to her on the finale as a publicity stunt, and she followed right along. Then she broke up with him, and more publicity ensued. At the end of BB2, she said she could not just go back to waitressing. It seems rather likely that this recent lawsuit is yet another pathetic attempt to get publicity.

Krista, you’re not America’s Sweetheart. You’ll never be America’s Sweetheart. But you are now in the Reality TV Hall of Shame. Congratulations.
