Tough Enough September 17: Harvard Chris' Storyline, Taylor in Japan, and More!

by Mike DeGeorge -- 09/17/2002
What are your favorite Tough Enough competitors up to these days? Find out now how Taylor is doing in Japan, how (Harvard) Chris Nowinski (shown at right) is doing in his storyline, and much more!

Before we begin, I need to answer the questions about why the interview with Danny has not been published yet. All I can say at this point is that it's been delayed. The delay will serve to make the interview better, let me assure you. Keep your eye on RealityNewsOnline (and sign up for the weekly email updates) for the Danimal interview.

Starting with an update/clarification from last week. I said that I thought I had read that the TE3 crew was going to Iceland, but I couldn't remember where I had read it.

CharlieFTW13 helpfully reminded me that I saw a news story that Bill DeMott had a minor car accident and was slightly injured, but he would still be going to Iceland to film TE3 segments. Thanks to Charlie for filling in the memory gaps.

Reports also note that Bill DeMott will be wrestling under that name since he will use it during the TE tapings. For those who don't know much about DeMott, look forward to my bio of him and updated bios of Al and Ivory shortly before the start of the series.

According to the Observer, TE3's latest travels were covered on local Iceland newscasts. Since wrestling isn't shown on Icelandic television, the report was inaccurately accompanied by footage of Scott Hall, the Nasty Boys, and the Ready to Rumble movie, none of which have anything to do with TE.

Maven, Nidia, Chris Nowinski, Jackie Gayda, and Linda Miles will all be taping episodes of Blind Date in Los Angeles in the next couple of weeks. Now THIS would be well worth recapping. If anyone sees and/or tapes these shows, please let me know.

As for Taylor, Jeff Nettleton emails me to let me know he bought another Arsion tape. Taylor continues to improve and pick up the Arsion style, including picking up on the Japanese manner of screaming during matches. He agrees that she probably wouldn't be wanted in the WWE due to her more natural looking body, and is probably in the best spot for her career at this point.

Darryl wrestled "The Hardcore Homosexual" (yikes!) in his first match for the NWF promotion. Darryl later told fans that he doesn't have plans to wrestle past the indy level. That's called "knowing your limitations" kids, and it's something Darryl apparently learned since the tapings.

We'll end with "Harvard" Chris Nowinski. His angle continues to progress since his mentor, William Regal, joined the Un-Americans group. When Chris asked Regal why he was leaving him for the Un-Americans, Regal slapped him and called him "an embarrassment" due to his constant skirt-chasing. He told Chris that he was a Harvard graduate and he should start acting like one. The segment ended with a visibly furious Chris staring after Regal.

Chris also showed up on the latest "WWE Byte This!" internet show. Here are the highlights from his appearance (which you can watch at wwe.com/webcasts/bytethis/).

Chris joins the show by phone, not calling from Molly's locker room, as far as we know.

Regarding the slap from Regal, Chris' mind WAS on other things. Regal is a tough teacher but Chris likes him.

Interesting question - does he feel he's taking Maven's place since he's injured? Chris answers (as we know he would) that he should have won in the first place, but he's glad to have this chance.

Chris never considered leaving wrestling after the winners were announced. He says he was booking indy dates in the car on the way home.

Chris avoids a question about his rivalry with Josh, saying "word is that Josh has been seen in Stamford." Long time readers will realize that he's referring to Josh working in production aspects for WWE.

One of the hosts, Kevin Kelly, asks if Nidia is a good kisser. Chris claims to have no idea what he's talking about. Hmm.

Chris then answers a question out of character by saying he's not better than everyone else just because he went to Harvard, he's just caught some good breaks in his life.

They finish by asking Chris' prediction of the Harvard-Yale football game. "What do you think?"

In all, good interview, as typical from Byte This when they're not making inside jokes about their chat room.

Mike DeGeorge would like to congratulate the Minnesota Twins for clinching a spot the baseball playoffs over the weekend, which, along with the Arizona Diamondbacks success, proves without a doubt that small-market teams just cannot compete. Email Mike at mikmaria@earthlink.net.
