America’s Next Top Model 2 Final Report – So How Did I Do?

by Phil Kural -- 04/05/04
Back in December, Phil made his predictions on how each contestant this season on America’s Next Top Model would do. So how accurate were his predictions? Some were right on the button, but others, like Yoanna (right), were not quite as perfect.

Back in December, when I first found out that I would be recapping America’s Next Top Model 2, I decided that a preview article was necessary in order to acquaint the viewers, not to mention myself, with the contestants that would be involved. In that article, I read each girl’s biography and took at look at her audition video. Based on those two things, I formed an opinion on each girl and predicted about how far in the competition she would get. So, how did I do? Let’s take a look!

Anna: In my preview article, I said that I didn’t think Anna would fit in with the other girls because she was coming across as too genuine. I was right in that aspect. Anna was eliminated partly because she refused to take part in the first photo shoot, which was shot with the girls wearing nothing but body paint and jewels. I pegged her as a motherly type that would do her best to accommodate the other girls and that is exactly what she was – at least for the one episode we got to see her in. Finally, I said that I wasn’t sure how Anna would do because she seemed to be there for the experience, not so much for the competition, so I left it in the air. Well, I’m going to say I was right because she could have gone either way. So right now, I’m 1/1

Bethany: Wow, I was really wrong with this one! I said that Bethany would be around for a good while and not start any trouble. Bethany, according to most of the other girls, caused a good deal of trouble for the time she was there. In fact, when I got to interview her, she said she wishes she had kept her mouth shut a few times, but that’s just the way she is. So, I was wrong on the whole thing about her being around for a good while too. However, I was right about her being beautiful. Most people had issues with the size of her breasts, but I thought Bethany was pretty well proportioned. Oh well, I’m ½ as it stands.

Heather: Hmm, this is a tough one. I predicted that Heather would not really get along with the other girls on the show because she seemed somewhat shallow. Although I didn’t find her to be shallow on the show, she didn’t really connect with any of the other girls. Therefore, I was right in thinking that she wouldn’t be around long – because she wasn’t. I think that had Heather been away from home before, she would have adapted to the show better and been around a little longer. However, since it was her first time being away from her family, it was somewhat of a culture shock, especially since leaving them for the first time meant going on a reality show where her every move would be taped. All in all though, I was right about the way she was, and that makes me 2/3.

Jenascia: I said that Jenascia seemed like such a cool woman and was full of spunk. I could not have been any more dead on! For most of the time that Jenascia was on the show, she was the source of entertainment, not to mention the narrator! She had so many one-liners that they just had to air them all. I knew her height would become a problem, but I didn’t think it would be her demise from day one. Maybe if she wasn’t late for the first shoot she could have gotten further due to her merit. I said that Jenascia must have patience because she works at Hooters, but I was wrong in that sense. We all know she was a pretty big fireball at times. However, we loved her for it! All-in-all, I’m going to say that I was right about Jenascia, even though I never predicted when she would be eliminated, but I did get about 75% of her personality correct. I’m 3/4!

Xiomara: I pegged Xiomara as an “exotic beauty” and I think I hit the nail on the head with that one. I also pointed out her personality and the way her positive energy just came right through in her pictures and audition video. On all these accounts, I was dead on. I didn’t expect Xiomara to win, but I didn’t think she would go right away either, so I was right in that aspect as well. Lastly, I stated that right from the beginning, I knew I loved her. Well, I was right there, too! From the second J. Alexander told her that she “walked like she was on crack” and that she “looked like she was scared of something,” I knew she had my heart – and still does. Oh, I’m 4/5!

Catie: Hmm, another one that I pegged exactly the way she turned out. I said that Catie would probably last around midway and then she would start to rub the other girls the wrong way. I could not have been more right! Also, I said that she would create a stir for the time she was there and we all know how true that was with her constant crying and complaining. She came across as that all-American girl, but didn’t know how to use that to her advantage. She did go halfway in the competition and did seem to get on everyone’s nerves by the time of her elimination. Personally, I secretly thought she would be around much longer then she actually was, but after seeing her video and hearing her say, “Oh, by the way, I hate models,” I knew she wouldn’t last until the final four. Wow, I’m 5/6!

Sara: Well, I was right for the first part about what I said about Sara: she was pretty ghetto! However, I thought that would be a bad thing and it ended up being the one thing that I really liked about her. I didn’t think she would have a personality, and I was wrong about that. Sara really came into her own and became one of my favorites, actually. Finally, I had said that she wouldn’t be around very long in the competition and I was pretty wrong about that. Sara got pretty far and when she was eliminated, I was sad because I wanted her to get further! So, it’s the second time I’ve been wrong thus far, making me 5/7.

Camille: Hmm, here is another one I didn’t seem to do a very good job on. I was right when I said that Camille was a beautiful girl – because she was. However, I didn’t know that she would be ugly on the inside! Although I was right when I remarked that she seemed like a very outspoken individual, I was totally wrong when I said that she probably knew how to sit back and let the drama unfold. Little did I know that she would be the actual cause of most of the drama! She wasn’t eliminated early, but she didn’t make it all the way, which I also predicted (all the way, to me, is final three). Anyway, overall, I was pretty wrong about Camille, so I’m losing steam as I sit with 5/8.

April: I could not have been more right when I predicted that April had the looks, brains, and determination on this show. She showed that she was willing to work as hard as possible to win the competition. But that determination and what the judges said overshadowed her personality, which is what did her in! I didn’t quite hit the nail on the head when I said she seemed somewhat fake because I truly believe that April was actually one of the "realest" girls there! Although, I redeemed myself when I predicted that she would be around for awhile, which she was. In the end though, I ended up liking April, when I didn’t think I was going too. I’m even on this one, but since I got the most important things right, I’m going to count this as a victory. I’m 6/9.

Shandi: This is where I’m a little confused. I didn’t really say much about Shandi, other than that she had big ears and that she worked at Walgreen’s. Now, I know that I did say she seemed to have a very sweet personality, but now that I look back, I’m not even sure if we were shown her personality because they were too busy making her over and talking about her family! I addressed the fact that she didn’t like to get dressed up in the past as a big disadvantage in this competition, because essentially, that’s what this is! However, that didn’t end up having an effect on her in the least. All-in-all, I was pretty wrong about how I thought Shandi would come across, so I’m 6/10.

Mercedes: Ahh, MY Mercedes. I loved her even before the show began! I had stated that the only thing I was worried about with MY Mercedes was that she wouldn’t take the competition too seriously, but I was wrong on that account – and thank goodness! She was around until the bitter end, when her crown was stolen by Yoanna. Anyway, I could not have been more accurate when I said that she seemed like a very fun girl and was there to enjoy the experience. Also, she did come off as a younger J.Lo, and looked hot when doing so! I hit the mark with MY Mercedes, and I’m glad I got to watch her each week on my TV. Oh, I’m 7/11.

Yoanna: Here is the one I REALLY messed up on! I said that Yoanna seemed like the dullest of all the girls! Wow, could I have been any more wrong? Yoanna ended up being this fireball that I would have never expected. Her profile and video were so boring that I never saw it coming. I said that she would probably be eliminated early, but she could also be the sleeper in the competition because her profile was putting me to sleep. However, she pulled through and ended up winning the whole thing! Well, I guess I can’t add any more to support the fact that I was totally wrong with her, and just tell you that my final score is 7/12.

Well, there you have it! I mean, 7/12 isn’t so bad! Sure, it’s not perfect, but at least it’s better than half! I can’t wait for the next season of this show to start so I can see how I fare with them as well. As for this season, this is my last article concerning it, unless something big happens and in that case, I’ll keep you informed. Thanks to everyone that emailed me with their thoughts each week on their favorite model, and I just want everyone to know I had a blast covering this show. See everyone next season!
