‘Apprentice 2’ Begins Filmingby David Bloomberg -- 05/12/2004
The first edition of The Apprentice only finished up a few weeks ago, but it appears that The Apprentice 2 has begun filming as of Tuesday. The New York Post reported today that one of their photographers encountered two female cast members being followed around by camera crews. The crews first tried claiming they were making a foreign language documentary, but somebody finally gave in and told the truth. I was just in New York City over the weekend, for the Survivor finale, and walked through a street fair behind Trump Tower during some downtime. I jokingly told RNO’s Associate Editor, Betsy Wasser (who recaps The Apprentice for us), that I was looking in the booths to see if anybody looked like they could have been from the new Apprentice series. Alas, nobody did. We also discussed whether the new series would be starting yet and figured it probably had to start soon so executive producer Mark Burnett could finish it up before heading out to film the next Survivor. Little did we know that we were only days away. But it probably isn’t a coincidence. Burnett was already there for the finale and the upcoming live million dollar giveaway show on Thursday, so it would make sense for him to begin the show while he’s in town anyway. The new Apprentice will air on NBC in September, with the series adopting a schedule like that of Survivor, having one series in the Fall and one in the Spring. And there will be 18 people vying to work for Trump, allowing the series to be stretched out an additional two weeks. The Post reports that four of the contestants are Harvard grads, three have Wharton School of Finance degrees, and one has both – and that one also graduated first in their Harvard class! Of course, we already know that impressive-looking degrees are no guarantee of success in The Apprentice. And several of the other contestants come with fewer degrees but greater success, according to the Post. Two of them are supposed to already be self-made millionaires. Why a millionaire would want to work for somebody else to get a salary of a quarter-million dollars is a bit unclear, but hopefully we’ll find that out in September. For now, New Yorkers should keep their eyes open.
