The Apprentice 3, Episode 3 Extras: Two Male Losers

Once again, we start with our extras in the middle of the episode, with Magna moving their supplies from the Nescafé office to Bryant Park. Michael’s being difficult, and threatening bodily harm to Danny. Danny should have benched him right then.

We see Net Worth working and doing a very good job of it. Chris, Tara, Craig, and John head off to meet with an event planner. In contrast to Danny, John is very organized and knows exactly what he’s talking about. At the same time, the other team members back at the office are working with another event planner. They’re letting both planners bid so that they can determine which would be better for the task. I think that’s pretty smart. Especially since, when they return, Chris isn’t as impressed with his group’s planner as the others are with theirs.

Angie says that the team needs to pick a planner by four o’clock. They wait for the proposal from the first guy, but don’t get a response. The team agrees that the second planner had a better price anyway, so they contact him. He agrees to work with them.

The next day, however, the guy who was supposed to print up Net Worth’s fliers hasn’t turned them over. He’s refusing to give the team the fliers because he hasn’t received his money yet. Tara says that he hasn’t received a check because the guy hasn’t given them an invoice. However, she says they should have dealt with that the previous night rather than waiting until the day of the task. This was Audrey’s area of responsibility, by the way. Angie, who’s still at the office while some of the other team members are already at Union Square, refuses to let anyone give over the money until they receive the invoice. She says they shouldn’t have to wait for it.

Audrey, who’s at Union Square, tells Angie that she’ll call back when things have been straightened out. The team finally gets the invoice, but they’re not happy with it. John explains that the guy is charging $6,000 for “various” fliers. John says that Trump has most likely never paid for “various skyscraper parts.” It’s official – I like John. For the choice of words and the tone of voice and the facial expression on that line, I can’t help it. John says that Audrey could have done better on this part of the task. Audrey calls Angie back and says that the invoice is being faxed and Angie should bring the check to Union Square.

As Net Worth sets up at Union Square, Chris accidentally smacks a woman in the face with a box of stuff. He apologizes and makes sure she’s okay, but once she’s gone, he says that she should have watched where she was going. At least he didn’t totally lose it and start screaming at her. The guy testing the sound system keeps saying, “Check one, check two.” Angie gets irritated and yells that he’s fine, then tries to cover up her annoyance. As someone who’s done a number of sound checks with a band, I completely understand what she’s feeling.

The signs go up and Chris and Angie think they look bad. Chris blames Audrey for the signs’ appearances, adding that she paid too much for them. Shhh, Chris. Shhh.

In contrast, over at Bryant Park, Stephanie is impressed by Magna’s event planner’s work. She calls is “phenomenal” five times. Find a new word, sweetie. Everything get underway and Michael is useless. There are clowns and mimes. Why are there so many mimes on TV now? There was one on Wickedly Perfect two weeks ago and one on American Idol last week. I’m scared that mimes are trying to take over the world. Magna holds their drawing for an iPod giveaway. Danny is happy about the day’s results and thinks that his team will trust him now.

Net Worth goes on their helicopter ride. They’re extremely excited about it. Isn’t anyone on this show ever afraid of heights? Chris – who’s mislabeled as Brian – says that the team’s key to success is to keep smiling and having a good time. I think he just jinxed everything. Everyone looks for Trump Tower, then spots the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge (um, I think… it’s been awhile since I was in New York), and the Empire State Building. Angie becomes emotional when she sees the Statue of Liberty. She thanks her team and congratulates them on their win.

Before Magna heads to the boardroom, Stephanie says in an interview that she secured everything for her team and if Danny brings her into the boardroom, he’ll be shooting himself in the foot. Who knew Stephanie was psychic? Danny, however, thinks that most of the team’s problems were Stephanie’s fault. Alex tells Danny that Stephanie can’t handle pressure. Michael and Kendra are both frustrated by what happened; Michael thinks that they spent too much. He blames Danny for their failure.

Erin tells Danny that they should talk to Trump about Michael’s lack of work on the task. Everyone except Michael meets up and agrees to try to find an exception to the exemption. Erin promises Danny that she and Kendra will back him up. She says that it’s a long shot, but it’ll work. Unlike Stephanie, Erin is not psychic.

In the boardroom, Trump asks Danny why his campaign was so flat if he’s supposed to be a creative genius. Danny says that there were some challenges. Trump asks about the $50,000 given to the event planner and Stephanie takes responsibility. The discussion turns to Danny vs. Michael. Trump points out to Danny that Net Worth spent a lot less money and had a better campaign. (Considering their political theme, that’s unintentionally funny.) Trump brings up his favorite point – that the members of Magna went to college. He says that half of them are lawyers. Apparently, that means that they should be good with money. People who spend millions of dollars on ridiculous gold penthouses shouldn’t throw stones.

Trump decides to ask Stephanie where she went to college. She replies that she went to Arizona State University and Trump replies, “Right now, they’re not very proud of you.” I’ve never said this before, but now is the time – shut up, Trump. Stephanie says that she has a degree in supply chain. Supply chain… what? Supply chain management? Supply chain destruction? And what does it have to do with giving $50,000 to an event planner?

Trump says that Stephanie didn’t do a great job. Stephanie argues that it’s because she couldn’t negotiate; she had no buzz and no time. Danny says that he asked her to give him numbers. Stephanie replies that she gave them to him. Danny says that she was too late. She should have met with the vendors and provided a list of options. Carolyn asks Danny how much money he gave to Stephanie. Stephanie adds that even she didn’t know what her budget was. Danny tries to give an answer that doesn’t make him sound like a complete moron. He is unsuccessful.

Kendra (remember her?) tells Trump that Danny is responsible for the team’s loss, but he should fire Michael. She would rather have a leader who’s disorganized than one who lacks integrity. Trump asks if she believes this even though Michael is exempt. This leads to the violation of trust discussion. Michael argues that he’s capable, but Bren says that he surfed the Internet the day before.

Danny wants to bring Michael and Stephanie to the boardroom. Oh, dear.

Carolyn and George both think that Danny made bad decisions; they point out that Michael is exempt. Danny, Michael, and Stephanie return to the boardroom. Michael claims that he did his best, but his ideas weren’t utilized. He was also against signing the contract with the event planner. Danny says that they took a vote. Trump says that they shouldn’t have.

Stephanie speaks up that Danny had a budget of $75,000 and she gave $50,000 to the event planner, but they still had $3,000 left over. Trump asks if she thought it was a good idea to “force” the event planner on the team. Stephanie says that she didn’t; everyone was behind her. I think Trump stopped listening, because they had just said that they took a vote and agreed on the planner. Stephanie maintains that they waited too long, and that was Danny’s fault. Danny says that he did give Stephanie a budget, but she kept fighting him on certain things.

Carolyn asks when the team signed the contract with the planner. Danny has no idea, but says that it was “late.” Stephanie says that they got the quote at 3:30. Carolyn asks her question again and Danny guesses that they signed around six or seven p.m. Carolyn says that they spent the entire day without a planner.

Stephanie agrees with Trump that Danny and Michael are “two male losers.” Stephanie and Michael are both against Danny. Trump says that Michael did a horrible job and Stephanie is better than he thought, so she’s pretty much safe.

Trump tells Michael and Danny that they were both awful. Michael’s exempt. Danny’s fired.

Danny sings in the cab. I’m sad that I have to listen to that again. He actually sings twice, and in between, he says that Trump might work for him one day. Yeah, I’m sure he’d love to work for a leader who votes on every decision. He keeps singing. Please stop.
