Dancing with the Stars 3, September 27: Don’t Run with the Scissors, Sisterby Ashley Lundy -- 09/28/2006
Howdy, folks! I will be covering for Jill Jones this evening. No worries though, the east coast mama will be back here telling it like it is next week. Tom and Samantha welcome us to the show and tell us that tonight we will get to watch a performance from Scissor Sisters and the most ambitious group dance yet! Then we get a quick synopsis of last night’s episode, but we’ve all seen it. If you haven’t, check out our recap here. Our hosts give us the leader board results from last night:
Len tells us the specific moves in which Willa and Joey broke the rules in their routines. Basically, they did lifts and lifts are not allowed in any way. The judges are looking for the best all-around couple, not a one-dance wonder. Then Len announces that all three judges were impressed with Vivica & Nick’s tango, so they are our encore performance! After the break, Cheryl Burke and Jesse DeSoto dance for us during a special musical performance from the New York group, Scissor Sisters. The song is called “Take Your Mama.” I’ll let you just imagine. Backstage, Samantha talks with the contestants. Willa says that being in the bottom two last week was “not fun at all.” Emmitt admits to Samantha that they were robbed “at gun point” last night and he is still fuming about the low scores, but he’s smiling when he says it. Sara says the difference in her performance this week was that it was so much more her style and that made her comfortable. We get video clips of audience members giving their feedback on last night’s performances. Some are appalled at the rule-breaking, others think the judges should lighten up. Now we get to ease the nerves of three lucky couples who are going to the next round. The first safe duo is Willa & Maxsim. They are, of course, tickled pink. The second couple is Sara & Tony. Unsurprisingly, Monique & Jill’s Louis are also coming back! Yeah! I thought they smoked last night. It is time for the big group number. Vittorio Grigolo sings with a back-up choir while our professional dancers perform the paso doble. A side note, Vittorio slightly resembles Dr. Will from Big Brother. The dance is beautifully choreographed and the singing is excellent. It is all very dramatic and intense. Superb. Samantha takes us backstage again to talk with our three safe stars. They are all happy and acting humble. Next week, Sara is going to come out on a horse. We check in on Tysonia and her progress in the Slim-Fast Dance Challenge. Tysonia says she eats, drinks, and sleeps dancing. Even at the grocery store. She performs the waltz in front of her co-workers and she looks like she has shed quite a few pounds. I did not see enough of the performance to comment on it, but her co-workers loved it. Christian hands her a tiny dress and says that next week they will perform the samba. The Scissor Sisters are back singing a country-sounding ditty called “I don’t feel like dancing.” Then you might be on the wrong show. The judges tell us what they are looking for in a routine. Len says he looks for technique, hold, posture, performance, but most of all, a dancer must have confidence. Bruno says they should be like two actors in a play. Carrie Ann says everybody is different and will have different personal bests. Finally, the point of the entire show, the results! Vivica & Nick and Joey & Edyta are safe. That’s all we get before an awkward commercial break is inserted. Ugh! When we return, we get more filler. This time it’s the stars saying that the competition is hard, they are working hard, and balancing this with their careers is hard. I’m starting to lose my marbles. Mario & Karina are safe and they have very relieved looks on their faces. Kym & Jerry are in the bottom two. Not a lot of booing from the audience. Harry & Ashley join Kym & Jerry in the bottom two. This means that Emmitt & Cheryl are the last safe couple. And the couple leaving the competition is… Harry & Ashly. There is much grumbling from the audience. Harry looks crushed. Ashly is practically sobbing. This is rough. Harry & Ashly dance us out and they actually dance. Ashly has already recovered nicely. They get a big group hug but everyone looks genuinely sad to see them leave the competition. Next week, the stars will be performing the waltz or the paso doble. Jill will be here to cover the performances, results, and annoying filler for everyone. Adios! Ashley is a proud Texan, faithful Trekkie, and recovering XBOX addict (at least until next weekend).
