Surviving the Early Show: J.P.’s Interview

by David Bloomberg -- 10/06/2006
J.P. was voted out of Survivor on Thursday, so that means he’s on The Early Show taking softball questions on Friday. What does he say about being voted out? What does the secret scene show? And what about last week’s secret scene that showed him flirting with Cecilia. Read on to find out all about it!

J.P. Calderon was voted off of Survivor: Cook Islands Thursday night – which means he made his guest appearance on The Early Show on Friday morning. Let’s see what he has to say.

After showing some scenes from Thursday night’s episode, the host notes that there are few times in the history of the show when someone was as surprised as J.P. was. No disagreement from J.P., who says he had no clue at all. Who did J.P. think was going? “It was supposed to be Stephannie.” That was kind of a no-brainer question.

The host continues, mentioning that Stephannie had said the immunity challenge loss was her fault and it seemed like she was going. J.P. agrees, saying she admitted defeat, which just opened the door. And she admitted she was the weakest link. She later said it was a moment of weakness and she didn’t mean it, but he figured you can’t even show that moment of weakness. So he thought for sure she was leaving. “That was the group consensus.”

Be that as it may, J.P. says he didn’t actually want Stephannie to go, but that was the group consensus, so he went along with it. (No follow-up here, but you can be sure I’ll ask him who he wanted to go in my interview with him!)

The host notes J.P. was depicted on the show as being bossy. But J.P. says it’s amazing how that came across. He says he worked really hard but unfortunately those moments were the ones that were shown. Still, he owns up to everything he did and doesn’t back away from it. He’s so appreciative and thankful to Mark Burnett and the whole production team for this opportunity of a lifetime.

In last week’s secret scene, he was shown flirting with Cecilia when they were together on the original Aitu tribe. He talks about her “curvaceous goodness” – a reference to Cecilia’s description of him on last week’s Early Show as having “all that muscled goodness.” Good to know they watch each other on TV! He continues by saying she is the epitome of a “hot, sexy Latina,” so what can you say? He wouldn’t be surprised if he sees her on the cover of every magazine out there.

What about this week’s secret scene? It has to do with J.P. having some foot problems. Apparently, several toes were infected. Ick. He talks about it being so bad he can’t even put his shoes on without pain, and he makes socks of a sort by wrapping leaves around his feet. J.P. says it was not fun. Though it was funny that he saw Stephannie making leaf socks too, and then others jumped on the bandwagon.

The interview closes out with J.P. saying hi to everyone in Long Beach.

So there we have it. Of course, I will also be interviewing J.P. and asking some more in-depth questions. Watch for it right here on RealityNewsOnline.
